Good News for Dems: Dick Cheney Hearts Rush Limbaugh

The good news for Democrats is that Dick Cheney, despite assurances about exiting the stage, keeps talking. The better news for Democrats is the message the former vice president chooses to emphasize.

One of the main goals of the DNC this year, for example, has been to position Rush Limbaugh as a leader, if not the leader, of the Republican Party. Yesterday, Cheney helped move this argument forward.

Former Vice President Dick Cheney said on Sunday that he preferred Rush Limbaugh's brand of conservatism to former Secretary of State Colin L. Powell's, saying Mr. Powell had abandoned the Republican Party when he endorsed Barack Obama for president last year.

"Well, if I had to choose in terms of being a Republican, I'd go with Rush Limbaugh, I think," Mr. Cheney said in an interview on "Face the Nation" on CBS. "I think my take on it was Colin had already left the party. I didn't know he was still a Republican."

Mr. Cheney said he "assumed" Mr. Powell's support of Mr. Obama over Senator John McCain was "an indication of his loyalty and his interest."

This is, of course, music to the DNC's ears. Putting aside the question of whether Powell's image deserves rehabilitation -- there's ample reason to believe his Bush administration service tarnished his reputation beyond repair -- the former Secretary of State remains a respected public figure. For most of the country, I suspect, admiration for Powell dwarfs toleration for Limbaugh.

Which is why Cheney's comments yesterday were so helpful for the GOP's detractors. As the Republican Party shrinks, and more Americans would prefer to see more influence from moderates like Powell and less influence from right-wing radio hosts, a wildly unpopular former vice president publicly embraced the opposite line. Indeed, he effectively dismissed the very idea of Powell even being a Republican anymore, throwing his support to the loudmouth who wants to see the president and his policies fail.

Dick Cheney, the DNC's manna from heaven.

In the same interview, Cheney effectively argued that a failure to torture will kill Americans; said he may be willing to testify under oath about the administration's torture policies; conceded that Bush personally "signed off on" the torture program; and added that he has "no regrets" over his alleged wrongdoing.

If you missed yesterday's interview, you can a) watch it online; or b) wait for Cheney's next national television appearance, which if recent history is any guide, should be any day now.

Digg!

It's the same old scam. It's the same as handing over the Treasury to the same banks that burned down the economy.

It's a Bird! It's a Plane! No, it's Clinton come back to burn us!

Again! Only this time, with the economy crashing down around our ears.

This is getting tiresome. When you're ready for the real thing, we're waiting:

The Party of "SO"

Repugs have moved beyond just 'No' they have taken on the flagrant airs of "So", and they have no desire to even make anymore excuses.
Never wanted to go into Iraq, wanted to get out years ago- So
Could use a little relief on helathcare costs- SoCould Use a little more money in your unemployment check- So
Could use a job- So
Could use some funding to repair the delapitated infrastructure you rely on everyday, even that which protects your safety- So
Still Demanding we convert to renewable clean energy sources-So
Think We're just rehashing the same old disasterous policies which got the country into this Clusterfuck int he first place- So.
Think we don't give a shit about you and only work for our corp & foreign sponsors- You're right-So.
Stop calling this group of Conspriators and traitors the party of "No", they don't deserve to be granted the insinuation that they have even contemplated what is good for US. They have clearly stopped trying to bend themselves into pretzels by trying to keep up appearances.
Rush has not only insulted every minority group, but everyone who is struglling in this economy. Worse yet he has finally proven he doesn't give a rats ass about our Service people- going after Seals, 4 star General and even the Greatest Generations valor during WW2 and the resulting War crimes trials. Tell me Rush et al- are you saying our Greatest Generation was wrong for stopping the Nazi's?Saving Europe? prosecuting them for War Crimes?
And some of their cohorts have their panties in a twist because Sykes called Rush on 'Treason', Called him the '20th Hijacker' wished his 'Kidneys would fail' and yet nothing about the crap that Warranted such justifiable thoughts?
it was not disgusting when he claimed a 4 star general was more interested in supporting his Race than the country he'd Served for so long???? Blames Seals for killing Pirates who were holding guns to the head of a non military captain??
Wanda was being kind that SOB deserves a massive Stroke rendering him a captive in his own body (Poetic justice after his attack on M.Fox), making him dependent on women to care for him (good luck with that) and relegating his cognitive level and speech to a 2 yr olds.
May Rush live a LOOONG time lying in his own waste and covered with Bedsores.

Steve, you say Colin's reputation is still fine?? He was involved in WMD and 9/11 hoaxes, right?

Yes, between Rush and Colin, Colin is the best. OR IS HE??
Rush didn't tell the world, authoritatively, that we had proof of WMD in Iraq. But Colin did.
Rush couldn't have known that 9/11 was a lie. But Colin should have.

So between the two, Rush is just a big mouth.
But Colin actually made the Iraq war happen, and must have known something was amiss about that fateful day, 9/11.

But for Alternet, 9/11 was brought to us by terrorists, and there is no contradictions or improbabilities to the official story. No threads of impossible facts to follow. Nothing suspicious at all. Just the way the 9/11 Commission told it. That is what you, apparently, Steve, and Alternet, believe, right???

Yeah, right! And Colin, too. None of you have the slightest suspicions or knowledge of the vast amount of incriminating evidence that has been presented by people like David Ray Griffin or Steven Jones and others.

Give me a break.

Love your accompanying photo of Cheney. Isn't he the ugliest piece of shit the universe ever created? I have a total death wish for the guy but as long as he keeps reminding us of how horrible the Bush administration was then I guess it's OK if he lives a bit longer; he's finally doing something worthwhile
