Sarah Palin Is Getting Pretty Graphic

Posted by Isaac Fitzgerald, AlterNet at 9:51 AM on March 13, 2009.

No, not in a swearing way, or a violent way, or a sexy way. There's a new graphic biography of the Alaskan governor and it is flying off the shelves.

Sarah Palin is getting pretty graphic lately. No, not in a swearing way, or a violent way, or even a sexy way ... but in a graphic biography way. The new book, titled "Female Force: Sarah Palin," was released a few days ago and already has some fans. Publisher Darren G Davis told the Guardian "We had no clue how well these books would be received in the marketplace."

Sarah Palin, it turns out, remains extremely popular in the US -- at least among readers of comics. A graphic biography of the Alaskan governor was released in the US yesterday and has been flying off the shelves, with its publisher already rushing back to press for a second printing.

Telling Palin's life story -- from PTA president to her surprise nomination as John McCain's running mate, to the pair's failed bid for the White House -- the 32-page comic is an "even-handed perspective" of Palin's accomplishments, according to its publisher Bluewater Productions.

Now, I'd argue that the Alaskan governor is not "extremely popular" with comic book readers, but that folks are buying these as a) collector's items or b) gag gifts. But maybe I'm wrong. "Female Force" will be an ongoing project, Bluewater also released a graphic biography of Hillary Clinton and has plans to publish one for Michelle Obama.

Unfortunately, as stated above, these books remain pretty accurate to their source material. Which I find disappointing only because when I first saw that Palin had her own comic book coming out I was hoping for an extreme governor versus cyber-moose battle for Anchorage. Or at least a scenario where she had to fight a mutant wolf using only a helicopter and her .22.

I don't think I could have survived it if it had been serious biography.

That it comes as a comic book is so utterly fitting to the story that is is almost prophetic in its appearance.

Hurrah for a sense of humor!

It can't BE serious.........

No matter what anyone says... she is boring and annoying. Even making fun of that woman is a waste of time.
I have to care to laugh at someone.

The real comic is community organizer turned President.. super hero in the flesh Obama - (we actually know Pelosi is really the President but she's a women so can't have that!)

I'll bet Palin's book will reveal just how strong a personality she really is and how sexist the liberal media really is. Everyone loves a story of the underdog and she was it.

We can tolerate a black but never a women!

It may be amusing, but I wish we'd stop feeding this particular fire.

I won't buy it, and I wish it wouldn't sell well - we need Palin to slip into obscurity - or through the ice, or something. She needs to disappear.

"graphic" is the wrong word. it's a comic book.

I do not accept the re-nominalization. "graphic novel" is just an attempt to pretend to more respect than deserved, and one about that silly and scary woman are pathetic.

It is a comic book, and she is a clown - a clown with power! How'd that happen?

and also a "hot" Palin calendar, that they brought out for Palinmania. Both items are now "free, for the just cost of shipping", which says something! :-D Mind you, that's a regular bio, which requires reading, which may account for poor sales to her "base".

The calendar, though? One would think all those red-blooded American hunters would absolutely NEED one of those!

As far as a comic, weeeeeellll, pretty appropriate, I'd say. That may be the reading comprehension level of her followers! Then again, I do know that comics have come a long way, baby, and have a fairly extensive readership - including a lot of really intelligent people.

My guess is that the poster who suggested that the sales were due to buying for a collectible is the right guess. People DO collect political memorabilia, and if kept sealed away, in 30 years, it may be quite valuable. I wonder what my Spiro Agnew watch would be worth if I still had it... LOL!

SARAH PALIN, IN MY OPINION IS A STRANGE PERSON. SHE LOVES TO KILL ANIMALS JUST FOR THE SAKE OF KILLING. SHE LIKES RUNNING HER MOUTH, BUT WILL SAY ANYTHING RATHER THAN SAY I DONT KNOW. IN MY OPINION IF YOUR GOING TO MAKE A COMIC BOOK OF HER I SUGGEST SHE'D BE IN A PORTRAIT OF PORKY PIG. THAT WAY BY THE TIME SHE SAYS SOMETHING, MAYBE WHAT BRAIN SHE HAS KICKS IN TO SAY THE RIGHT THING, RATHER THAN ALOT OF NOTHING.= IN MY OPINION.

shooting with a .22 from a chopper? she needs a much larger caliber rifle. if you have to kill an animal, do it right.
