James G. Cummings of Belfast, Maine, a trust fund millionaire who had ties to American Nazi groups, was murdered by his wife two months ago. But, as the FBI found out when investigating James' murder, a history of domestic abuse, nazi-sympathizing, and money was just the tip of the iceberg.

From the Bangor Daily News:

According to an FBI field intelligence report from the Washington Regional Threat and Analysis Center posted online by WikiLeaks, an organization that posts leaked documents, an investigation into the case revealed that radioactive materials were removed from Cummings’ home after his shooting death on Dec. 9.

The report posted on the WikiLeaks Web site states that “On 9 December 2008, radiological dispersal device components and literature, and radioactive materials, were discovered at the Maine residence of an identified deceased [person] James Cummings.”

The section referring to Cummings can be read here.

It says that four 1-gallon containers of 35 percent hydrogen peroxide, uranium, thorium, lithium metal, thermite, aluminum powder, beryllium, boron, black iron oxide and magnesium ribbon were found in the home.

Also found was literature on how to build “dirty bombs” and information about cesium-137, strontium-90 and cobalt-60, radioactive materials. The FBI report also stated there was evidence linking James Cummings to white supremacist groups. This would seem to confirm observations by local tradesmen who worked at the Cummings home that he was an ardent admirer of Adolf Hitler and had a collection of Nazi memorabilia around the house, including a prominently displayed flag with swastika. Cummings claimed to have pieces of Hitler’s personal silverware and place settings, painter Mike Robbins said a few days after the shooting.

An application for membership in the National Socialist Movement filled out by Cummings also was found in the residence, according to the report. Cummings’ wife, Amber B. Cummings, 31, told investigators that her husband spoke of “dirty bombs,” according to the report, and mixed chemicals in her kitchen sink. She allegedly told police that Cummings subjected her to years of mental, physical and sexual abuse. She also said that Cummings was “very upset” when Barack Obama was elected president.

The Bangor Daily News has more on this story.

According to Raw Story, "Public safety officials were quick to claim there was no threat."

when these kind of stories started surfacing during the Presidential campaign. Yeah, right.

The biggest threats to our nation don't come from Muslim terrorists.

They come from freaks and weirdos like this guy and Timothy McVeigh. Uber-Amerikans.

This wife who killed this Krazy fascist should be protected. She probably saved lives when she snuffed the life out of him, and did us all a great service.

If a one hundred hour war could produce Timothy McVeigh what will 7 years of Afghanistan and Iraqi occupation produce?

How many times has someone mysteriously disappeared, died in an accident, committed suicide, etc., with the only explanation to the populace is that he/she was a terrorist or a Nazi? What a world we live in when we don't know what to believe or not. Call me a skeptic or conspiracy nut or whatever, but most people don't take the time to examine what they read or hear, they take it for granted it's the truth.

And here we were told the person that would be responsible for this kind of plot would be a brown-skinned foreigner with a funny name.

The fascists have been taken out of their happy place now that Bush is gone, it seems. It would appear that they're not taking it well.

When I read that Cummings had an application for the National Socialist Movement, I knew what he was planning. Nazi is the opposite of Socialist, and Nazi is right wing (just like some Republicans) and fascist (just like some Repubilcans) and most Americans get that confused. Socialism is helping the middle class and poor, and using tax dollars to do so. Nazi, fascist and right-wing movements support a government run by business interests and protected by the military. Cummings was going to kill members of the National Socialist Movement. Why? Because Nazis (just like some right wing, fascist Republicans) hate the idea of everyone having enough food, medical care and education to compete with the rich. And Cummings, a rich man, was a right wing, fascist, Republican Nazi. Socialism is not the enemy (unless you're very wealthy).

The National Socialist Movement is a white supremacy organization and, to quote the Southern Poverty Law Center is "the largest neo-Nazi organization in the country".

Lack Of Media Coverage

It seems that the media personalities haven't changed. Had this been about Bush we would be bombarded with those irritating Special Reports, where the participants speculate about what happened. This isn't the first time it's happened with this administration and it won't be the last, especially, if racial hatred and bigotry are involved.

Didnt Hitler also collect Nazi memberabilia? To suggest this guy wasnt dangerous is ludricus. Not many people collect radioactive materials for the fun of it. To the commenter who suggested that suspected Nasi sympathizers were being targeted Please name some.
I'm not trying to suggest all people who collect Nazi memberablia are Nazi's most are just interested in history and this is a big part of 20th century history.

Living with someone like her husband can be hell. Sometimes battered wives take justice into their own hands, and who can blame them? I hope she has a good defense attorney who can prove self defense. She should get a medal, not a prison sentence.

People generally collect things that they love...

Whether its Beanie Babies, coins, stamps, or nazi memorabilia, people usually collect things that they love to handle and have around their homes. Making a lot of money by trading in collectables is very rare, like winning the lottery; beginning collectors are often cautioned to collect only things that they love, not in the expectation of making a lot of money.

So all these defenses that Cummings was just an innocent collector of war memorabilia, hoping to make a buck re-selling the stuff, just don't wash. These arguements especially pale in connection with his racist rants, his domestic abuse, and his cache of bomb ingredients. He was no innocent collector of cool pictures.

Moreover, as a sometime seller of collectables on Ebay, I can attest that Ebay doesn't allow selling items connected with hate groups. This is peer enforced; if anyone tries to sell something like this, others in the Ebay community report the item, and the listing is pulled.

True, sometimes collectors of war memorabilia will collect items representing victor's spoils; thus, a person who is passionate about WWII may have Nazi items in his or her collection.

However, the context here is of a home grown terrorist who would have been a very dangerous person had he gone much further. So please don't defend this guy as just another collector of war memorabilia. He was a bomb, about to explode. Good riddance.

Barrels of Transuranics are easy to find

I'm a systems analyst. You will need to understand that while you read this.

When I was working on opposition to Yucca Mountain, we found places where the government dumped barrels of Transuranics all over Southern California. The government was very sloppy with this waste stream because the conventional wisdom at the time was that nuclear war would kill the species anyway. The point I am making here is that if your NAZI was serious about making dirty bombs it is doable. It only takes a couple barrels of transuranics and a sack full of incendiaries to kill a city. If your NAZI buddy wanted to build a dirty bomb, it was surely possible for him to do so.

As far as his attraction to Hitler's work, I am no fan of the global economy and neither was your NAZI. We could use a whole lot of strong, brutal nationalistic economic policy in this nation. It was the support for the global economy and transferring of our industrial base to third world wage pools that destroyed our legitimate domestic economy. This nation is on the verge of bankruptcy because of it.

If Obama and Congress does not get this right, and turn this economy around, bankruptcy and Balkanization is the likely scenario for this nation.

Here is where Hitler comes in. What they conveniently forgot to teach you in school about Hitler, was his nationalist model and leadership played a strategic role in saving Germany from Balkanization in 1923. When the army fired on his brown shirts, and he survived, he earned the respect and support of the people. Strong Nationalistic leadership, with an appreciation for violence, is what kept that country together from 1923 to 1933.

If the economic policies of our power structure bankrupts this nation, a strong, brutal nationalist model will be needed to keep this country together as well.
