Survivors of Hurricane Katrina expressed outrage over news that Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal made up the story in his Tuesday speech in which he claimed to have overruled a local "bureaucrat" and aided in the rescue of stranded Louisianans during Hurricane Katrina.

The online organization ColorOfChange.org, whose membership is largely people of color, launched a campaign today calling on Jindal to apologize and calling him "morally bankrupt" for trying to score political points off the disaster.

A Jindal spokesperson acknowledged earlier today that the events Jindal recounted to the nation had never occurred and the governor in no way assisted with boat rescues during the hurricane.

"Gov. Jindal shamelessly fabricated a story to make himself look good and to score political points," said Paul Deo, a member of Color of Change, and a Katrina survivor. "What's worse, he casts himself as a savior, when in reality, when the floodwaters were rising and the people of his state truly did need saving, he was nowhere to be found."

James Rucker, executive director of ColorOfChange.org, added: "It seems Jindal never learned his lesson from Katrina. The storm should have taught him that good government is about more than political ups and downs -- and that when government fails, people die.

"But apparently Jindal looks back and all he sees is a chance to score political points. It's disgusting."

I'm sure Jindal is looking around and wondering what the hell happened. After all, his hero Ronald Reagan got away with bigger, more poignant whoppers than that! In the past it's been only Democrats whose credibility was questioned, as Gore and Kerry found out.

Jindal is brighter than Palin, but shares her penchant for lying, exaggeration, slander and the rest of the tools in the Atwater-Rove kit, along with archaic, catastrophically failed policies.

Yes and this is the payback this man gives to his countrymen for being able to live in a democracy. He was given a public trust of leadership. He fell on his face.

OK, when I was a kid and was planning on telling a whopper, I at least took a look around to make sure my brother wasn't standing behind me when I blamed him for something.

What did this schlemiel think was going to happen when he told stories on people?

that really do put Darwin's theory to the test. How can the survival of a species rely on the strongest and best when the Republicans keep on keeping on with the evolved pond scum they keep putting forth.

They rather remind me of those flopping creatures laying in the mud of a dried up lake or pond. And every rain storm they keep coming back without end.

Wasn't the name of the book by Erma Baumbeck? Maybe the Repugs should pick up a few thousand copies and give them away to their leadership and mouthpieces.
Are Repugs really just only children who got away with everything telling their parents their imaginary friend did it?
Or were they they kid who no one wanted to 'call out' on bold face lies, because it would only reflect badly on them for 'picking on the disabled kid'?
Did they eat the Toxic Paste, spend the day Licking their lead paint bedroom walls, or Huffing Paint cans and airplane Glue?
"morally Corrupt" possibly, victims of self inflicted Brain damage- definitely.

These Repukelicans are all the same--spew some BS and hope no one picks up on the *fact* that it's a lie. And to think the DA can tell it to a national audience following the President's address! What a tool.

Booby's being touted as the "future of the GOP party" alongside Little Miss Sarah? I'm already kinda looking forward to 2012 when Obama can knock the crap out of both of them, ya'll!

What did you expect from the anti-government & tax party?

The Republicans hate government and hate taxes. So what do you expect? They are not "conservative"., they are reactionary, regressive and repressive. They want government to fail. They just want the tax money to flow to the rich corporations or stay in their own pockets. They can't imagine a government agency, department or program to work, to protect us or prevent or lessen a tragedy like Katrina. Only the "invisible hand of the unregulated free market" will solve any and all problems according to them. As Obama has said, "Americans want a government that works for them." "It is not a matter of the government being too big or too small, but does it work?" If you want government to work, you have to pay for it. When 2/3 of the American corporations pay no corporate income taxes according to GAO study commissioned by the Congress last year, how can that be fair? We want people to pay their fair share and for the government to prevent and respond to disasters like Katrina. But Republicans don't want that to happen, especially if the people who benefit are of color and poor.

When I was about 4-5 yrs old my mother 2 brothers and sister lived with my widowed grandmother. They had been painting the kitchen in her clean but old clapboard house. Well they mistakenly put the paint and paint brushes on the back porch. Well I didnt see anything wrong with painting our big part german shepard dog which I did. When my Granny came out and saw the biege stripes down Brownie's back she couldn't see the humor in this she asked me if I had done it, well I was the only one in the back yard but I did say no. My granny ate little red hot peppers like candy and she proceeded to break one in half and wiped it around my lips, now my granny was born in the 1800's and raised 3 boys and a my mother during the great depression, she never ever spanked me and I was her favorite she was as far as I'm concerned the best granny ever. I like telling this story and saying that my lips still burn after I lie, they don't but I sure as hell remember that there is a good chance if you lie it could be painful. If only some of these pampered sociopathic repugs who supposedly stand for virtue had a granny like mine I believe this country would be far better off. Bobby's lips should be burning, but he's not going to have a granny who tried to sooth the burning with butter and a warning that honesty is less painful than lying.

Jindal has shot his wad in Louisiana. Though one of the poorest, most third world states of America has a mysterious penchant for Republicans, their penchant for Republicanism faded when Jindal turned down their extension of unemployment benefits in the name of "ideology." I keep hearing how smart this numbnutz is and my wonderment climbs into the stratosphere. An adding machine could be considered "smart" by some as long as the input is right. When the input in Bobby's case consists of judgement, background, sense, and honesty, our boy governor comes up sadly wanting. He is nothing more than a bundle of ambition capable of regurgitating one load of bullshit after another, single minded in his own self-promotion, acting always in the hall of mirrors he has constructed for himelf. His hero is, after all, the Great Prevaricator, Saint Ronald Reagan, who did more to fuck Louisiana, a state nationally understood as having a maniacal zeal for shooting itelf in the foot, than any President in living memory. Reagan may have gotten away with it, but Jindal ain't no Ronald Reagan.

This might be thought hilarious if it weren't so damn sad.

Actually, in one fell stroke, Jindal has done the unpardonable. He has dishonored the dead and the suffering. He has also embarrassed the Republican Party, not really a very difficult feat, and the only positive thing to come out of his moment in the big sun. He had until his appearance on the national stage been identified by many Republican pundits as a member of the Republican triumvirate vying for their nomination for the preidency of the United States (of America, no less) along with......Sarah Palin and Mitt Romney! As stated previously, it doesn't take much to embarrass this party in view of the fact that they do such a superb job of it all by themselves.

One would have thought Jindal and the Republicans would have figured out by now that fake heroism doesn't work anymore, despite Ronny's legacy of lies, if only because there are simply too many witnesses around with a voice these days. Hillary Clinton's Bosnia lie probably cost her the nomination, a very recent object lesson. Apparently, the Republicans are incapable of learning very much at all, unsurprising in that their opposition to "wasteful" spending on education, except that for their own children through outrageous tax breaks for the wealthy, has been uncompomisingly focused and consistently vicious. The "Party of Know-Nothings" has by now outdone the original version of the nineteenth century in America. Who will rise up and exorcise their demons? It fo' sho' won't be Bobby J.

One cannot lead government by being opposed to it. The audacity to even mention Katrina is staggering, the example that was left in the wake of it is that stewardship of government is essential to combat and manage calamities. Conservatives used to boast that they would bankrupt government so that it would become ineffective. Now we are paying for that with less resources available to fight global recession etc. It is clear that the Reagan model has failed us.

Does Bobby Jindal actually believe the lies he spewed at us? Of course he does...at least while he was saying them.

The RNC think tank must be working overtime, trying to find a story that the ignorant and obtuse "hard working American people" will go for.

Republican die hard voters are like junkies looking for just, "one more fix". Junkies know that the next fix could kill them, but they do it anyway, with zeal, casting all caution to the wind of confusion. So, when you see the next Republican buffoon get on his "soap box" to vomit out those putrid lies, think of it this way; he is only trying to get just "one more fix", to make his day. A junkie doesn't think about tomorrow, he lives for today, and tries to grab the dope and run as fast as he can.

What we witnessed when Jindal gave the Republican rebuttal to Obama's speech, was, just another attempt by some death row prisoner, to make you believe him when he says, "I'm innocent". They don't have any credible ideas on how "things" can be remedied, save, another tax cut...for the rich, not you, the readers of "Alternet.org"

"Recovery is just around the corner", and, "trust me" is the Republican's mantra. But, in order for any mantra to work, you have to first, empty your mind of everything. That's the way transcendental meditation works. And, if you have any doubts about the Republican version of T.M., look to Sarah Palin, Mike Huckabee, George W. Bush, Don Rumsfeld, and the rest of the Republican party and voters.

There is always going to be a remnant left who believe in their above mantra. The only way around their rhetoric, is to ignore them. If we do that, then they will either change their tune, or fade away; hopefully, they will fade away and give America the greatest Christmas present...ever!!!

Obama talks about, "hope" and "Yes we can". What other choices they offer we beside, more tax breaks for the rich, or the return of Reaganomics? Not! But, that is all they have in their agenda; all Me, and not You.

Wake up America, it is too late to save the old American way of life. I'm just trying to prepare for America turning into another "Banana Republic". When that happens, "there will be blood in the streets".

1. When Hilary Clinton embellished the security situation and her role in the Bosnia conflict, she didn't flat out make up a lie, but she exaggerated details; I really do believe that had some effect on peoples' perceptions of her, which is fair.

2. When Jindal completely made up a story out of no basis in fact whatsoever, well hopefully not just Katrina survivors but everyone in the country will be unwilling to trust him.

Exaggeration versus blatant lie. That's dems versus reps. Let's hope voters keep going for the lesser evil.

It took us almost two decades to hear the hollowness and the lies inside Ronald Reagan's embellished lies and deceitful policies. We should thank the latest crop of puppets, Jindal, Steele, Palin and McCain, but most of all we should thank the Bushes, pere et fils, for their less than remarkable performance. They will no doubt trot out Gingrich and Bennett for face value, Romney and Huckabee for believability. Their spin no longer has any internal validity. They have revealed themselves to be the ennemy within.

Speaking of Reagan
Posted by: AlteredStates on Mar 1, 2009 1:12 AM
Current rating: 5    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
Now that the world knows what the Republicans have been doing to us for the last 30 years, I wonder how long it is going to take for the citizens of this great, but damaged, country, to realize that Reagan was, next to "W", one of the worst presidents we have had?

What are his greatest accomplishments?

Did he end the Cold War? No! The cold war ended, because the Soviet Union went bankrupt, and could no longer afford to hold captive, Eastern Europe. When Gorbachev said to Eastern Europe, that, the U.S.S.R. would not longer interfere with any of their internal disputes, and would allow them to settle their arguments themselves without fear of reprisals from Russia. Because of that statement the Eastern European governments revolted and threw off their Communist form of government imposed on them by the Soviet Union at the end of W.W. II

Was Reagan good for the U.S. financially? No! Our government went from the world's biggest creditor nation to the world's biggest debtor nation, in less than 8 years.

Remember the Savings and Loan Scandal? Reagan put then V.P., George H.W. Bush in charge of overseeing the deregulation of the S. & L. industry. And, in less than 2 years, the savings and loan industry collapsed, the stock market crashed, (remember the crash of 1987?) because of deregulation and allowed the "Free Market" to regulate itself. Deja vous, today's Wall Street mess.

Remember the bombing of the Marine Corps barracks in Lebanon, that killed over 250 marines? Reagan sent in the Marines to "stabilize" Lebanon when civil war broke out, and didn't supply their needed protection for their barracks. They were sitting ducks. Another Reagan coup de grace!!

And, to finance his "economic recovery" from the recession he caused, and his enormous increases in military spending , he cut vital health care programs, and declared that, ketchup and relish were vegetables and cut aid to school children's free lunch program for the poor. He also closed programs for the mentally ill, (Medicare/Medicaid and the V.A. ) and caused many mental patients to commit suicide. But, Reagan never wanted to talk about the trouble his policies were causing and just smirked when asked about them.

As for war and peace, remember the death squads in Nicaragua and the Ollie North, Admiral Poindexter, and Casper Weinberger, Iran Contra affair? Scores of thousands of people were killed in Nicaragua in the name of "Freedom". Deja vous, Iraq and Afghanistan anyone?

Did I leave anything out? Oh, yes. Remember, Reagan's Star Wars pipe dream? That idea went down in flames. Why? Because the people in the "know" told Congress that it wouldn't work, even under the most favorable conditions. I guess Reagan's dreams of a Star Wars defense, will have to wait for a sunny day before we declare war on the world. Beside, did you ever try to shoot down a nuclear tipped missile that is traveling at 20,000 miles per hour? It's kinda hard to do that. And, that is just one missile. Try shooting down several thousand. That's why Congress said, NO!!! to Reagan's Star Wars program.

I can't leave out Reagan's answer to the air traffic controllers' request for a pay raise. Reagan fired 11,345 of them and in the process endangered the lives of everyone who flew in the U.S., because "management personnel" had to take over until new controllers could be trained and hired. What a nightmare that was. And, everyone suffered because Reagan didn't want to give them a pay raise and improve their working conditions by shortening their works hours.

Lastly, during Reagan's second term, Reagan looked and acted senile. His staff reportedly had to remind Reagan that the Nurse call button was different from the Nuke button. They kept him away from both of them. Thank God!

How do you view Reagan?

March 6, 2009 - 08:20 ET by richb313

They need to destroy him in the public mind. Bobby Jindal is the real deal. Anyone who has ever had any contact with him knows it. I live in Louisiana and have first hand knowledge of his effectiveness. I also know that Sheriff Harry Lee story to be true in spite of the attacks and unfounded rumors that say he was not there at the time. His only mistake was not hauling around a PR guy with him while he was actually helping the Louisiana People. He did not restrict his help to only those in his district. He knows how to get things done and how to cut through Red Tape. How does anyone think it was possible for him to rise to his position at his young age?

I am a Louisiana conservative Blogger and “Rich” nailed it.

They (the secular socialists and diaper-changing libmedia) MUST dirty up Jindal ASAP. Issues, debates and real talk are not part of that…its important the socialist Borg get as many Jindal hours as they can on tape so they can find 1% to re-play in their distortion field.

Its my hope he does let “handlers” mess up the message of conservatism: smaller, more efficient gov-meant, lower taxes and basic morality. Never ever get away from those or you will be “Bush-wacked”. Never accept a faulty premise and never back off an inch…repeat the prnciples a thousand times a year. Maybe one will get thru the libmedia filter.

The mere fact he is on all the “shows” now is teo fold…they fear him and they need some snip quotes down the road.

Such as it is…maybe someday he will even be called dumb…libs do that, they like personal insults to distract from issues. A Rhodes Scholar (who finished, unlike Klinton) could actually be called dumb. Its what libs do…lie.
