At a book signing this week, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee once again spoke truth to power and rejected two lies spread by the gay liberal media: 1) that the gay movement is a civil rights movement, and 2) that violence against "homosexuals" is a big deal. Huckabee then shed light on the issue that nobody else will touch with a 10-foot pole: the gay violence perpetrated against Christians. It turns out that far from being the victims of hate crimes, the gays are the real haters and the true criminals.

Huckabee explained: "There is a difference between the civil rights movement of African Americans, who were hosed down in the streets by [police official] Bull Connor in Birmingham, [Ala.,] and beaten with their skulls crashed in on the bridges of Selma for being black, not for their behavior, not for anything other than their race."

Duh! Good point. Are gays really that persecuted? Show me a gay who had his skull cracked. Name one! Twenty-one-year-old Matthew Shepard was robbed, pistol-whipped, tortured, tied to a fence in a remote area, and left to die, which he did. He had brain damage and a fractured skull, but it wasn't cracked. Besides, Shepard was in Wyoming, and nowhere near Selma, Ala., so it's so not comparable. And Shepard, like the other homosexuals he represents, aren't attacked for their race, they are attacked for their behavior. So, if they don't want to get attacked, they can just choose to be straight.

But it gets worse. Not only are the attacks against gay people not that big a deal, but it turns out the gays are the ones attacking Christians, the real victims. We all know that the persecution of Christians in the United States is at an all-time high, rivaled only by the pre-Constantine Roman Empire. As if Christians aren't already disenfranchised in this country, they also are violently assaulted by homosexual christophobes. Again, Huckabee is dead on: "And so do the Christians [get violently attacked]. It was in Michigan that people barged into a church and were rather violent. ... Well, it was certainly disruptive." The disruptions suffered by Christians really puts things like the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Lawrence King by his 14-year-old classmate into perspective, doesn't it? The Christian persecution is not an isolated incident, but endemic.

Huckabee points to yet another example:

In California, "when some peaceful protesters, including a 79-year-old lady by the name of Phyllis, was out holding a cross, it was violently taken from her and stomped." When people stomp on a Christian's cross, they are basically nailing them to a cross, like Jesus. My heart goes out to Phyllis Burgess and all the people like Phyllis who have rallied against gay rights, screamed and elbowed their way through crowds, pushed over disabled people, and had their Styrofoam crosses taken and stomped. Though they are no longer with us, they will certainly be missed. And their legacy lives on every time someone uses religion to attack gay people.

The other victims of hate crimes, who are ignored the media, are straight men. We must remember that even Matthew Shepard's killers were victims. In fact, the defendants tried to claim a "gay panic" defense, since they had acted under "temporary insanity," caused by Shepard hitting on them. It turns out, according to the killers' girlfriends, Shepard did not, in fact, come on to them. But I will have to write another piece to explore this particular hate crime: heterophobic attacks on homosexuals.

Digg!

"Christophobic persecution" in America by "homosexualists"

Yes sir, Christians are really persecuted by the "homosexualist" lobby( I subscribe to conservative sites)! ( For the full force of that statement, substitute "jewish" for "homosexualist")- and strangely enough the secular liberal lobby(does that include Fox TV and right wing commentators such as Rush Limbaugh or Michael Savage???) seems oblivious to it. What self-serving BS!!! I have known people who lived in societies where religion was being REALLY persecuted( ie, priests cast in jail, churches arbitrarily closed, believers arrested and sent to prison) and no matter how intemperate or outrageous the behaviour of some gay activists may be, it doesn't even come close!!!

I hope that you remember who REALLY signs the admittance slips for entrance into the “whatever” lies beyond. My Mother was not the greatest of moms but far far far from the worst. She taught me that: "If you can't say something nice about someone, 'tis best to say nothing a'tall. It is one way to insure ye'll be half an hour in heaven afore the Devil knows ye'r dead.

If you are unable to take these hints in the vein they are intended, then by all means reap as you have sewn!

Christianity is not natural behaviour! It is a choice!

Current rating: 4    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
Just goes to show Huckabee's hypocrisy. His religion is a choice. You are not born any religion but taught the one the family, you are naturally born into, chooses to believe in.

I do not hate or want christians to be legally disallowed to believe in and practice their religion. But that is what Mike, and a majority of christians, want to do to homosexuals using the argument that homosexuality is a choice! I have no problem with them believing what they want and doing whatever is required of them, within reason, under their religion. So why do they want me to live life their way under their beliefs and say mine are bull^%$#?

All I want out of chritians is for them to take their religion and practice it in privacy. I am not chritian so stop trying to make me live under chritian rules. Don't I deserve freedom of choice. Pass this along to BillO the dork as well! He needs a lesson in freedom and choice too!

This whole Under God thing in the US kind of defeats the argument christians make, about the homosexual agenda of forcing straight people to live by the homosexual agenda, a bit hypocritical and makes Mike Huckabee look like a bigger asshole than he already is.

I want to live my life my way and to stay out of your life. Huckabee, on the other hand, wants me to be forced to accept christian religious beliefs because he believes them and says I should to. That is bigoted, discriminatory and borderline slavery. There is nothing democratic about forcing people to follow your beliefs to the exclusion of their own.

Tell me again Mike who the f&^k is forcing who to live by what rules again? You sir are a hypocrtical homophobic religious zealot who deserves a little of his own treatment to make him a slightly wiser man! I wonder how you would feel if we treated you and your choice of religion the same way you treat homosexuals and their choice of life partners!

And I haven't even started about the violence! How about the Inquisition the Holy Roman crusades etc. All done in the name of christianity. Now name me one major, or even minor incident, of homosexuals doing anything like the chritians have Mike. Name just one dweeb. Do you really feel that destroying a foam cross is anything like systematic torture and death for religious beliefs!

I have a brown stain on the gusset of my panties Mike. It doesn't look like Jesus but it sure does look like you. Watch for the bidding on e-bay soon!

IF Christians acted like Christ (like they are commanded to in the Bible), I would be fine with them. If Christian wannabes were true Christians, according to the Bible, they would:

- constantly pray for peace
- feed the poor
- live humble, quiet lives.

Jesus actually mocked religious leaders, told the rich to give away everything they had to the poor, told his followers to allow others to hit them without fighting back, confirmed separate of church and state, told his followers not to judge others, and he lived in a commune. Jesus did not work (he was not employed). He lived off the charity of others. He did not force people to listen to him preach; rather, he went on hilltops and waited for people to come to him.

Too bad there aren't any real Christians in the U.S. today. Except the Amish.

.... but then, whaddaya expect from someone so corrupt he'll take the only profession that allows him to live on the gullibility of others. Let these "Christians" start paying income taxes like everyone else, instead of nauseating us at the doors of our homes and the channels we have to surf through. Then, maybe, more of us would lisen, if just out of courtesy. Until then, Huckabee and his ilk are a bunch of semi-literate jackasses and should be treated as such.

BY THIS SHALL ALL MEN KNOW THAT YOUR ARE MY DISCIPLES--THAT YOU HAVE LOVE ONE FOR ANOTHER.

THE GREATEST COMMANDMENT: LOVE GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, MIND AND SPIRIT. THE SECOND GREATEST IS THE SAME--LOVE YOUR FELLOW HUMANS AS YOURSELF. LOVE YOUR ENEMY, DO GOOD TO THOSE WHO MISTREAT YOU..

THOSE ARE THE WORDS OF JESUS OF NAZARETH WHO IS KNOWN AS CHRIST. THESE COMMANDMENTS ARE, OF COURSE, IMPOSSIBLE FOR ORDINARY HUMAN BEINGS TO LIVE UP TO. THERE MAY BE A FEW AMONG US WHO ARE NOT ORDINARY--MOST OF US ARE.

NOW ABIDETH FAITH, HOPE, AND CHARITY--AND THE GREATEST OF THESE IS CHARITY. AND THAT WORD DOES NOT MEAN, IN THE SCRIPTURE, GIVING ALMS TO THE POOR AND UNFORTUNATE, BUT GIVING TO ONE AND ALL THE REGARD YOU WANT FOR YOURSELF.

This is from the mainstream media bloghole, thedailybeast. "a large part of the far-left’s discomfort is with the non-optional war we find ourselves in against radical Islam itself"

You can tell he is mainstream by his statement "non-optional war... against radical Islam itself". Mainstream press people take this position and guard it to the last breath of their last man, the final bulwark. He is trying to write a piece in the old style of 'balance' so it is littered with gems (or trash) like this,

rather than just thinking of homegrown extremists as the benign circus freaks of American politics, we should keep an eye on their efforts, keeping in mind what President Eisenhower said a half-century ago: "The middle of the road is all the useable surface. The extremes of left and right are in the gutters."

But the use of outright smears is what bothers me. What evidence does he have to back up a slanderous statement like this?

the far left remains fundamentally allergic to the real-world responsibilities of governing

None, I'd guess. He just needed journalistic balance for the reality on the right of a bus load of school children chanting "kill Obama".

Seems to me that we must wait until bodies are found in the Ovens before anyone will equate Gitmo, Abu Ghraib with the Concentration camps. Isn't the promise to Humanity "Never Again'...Must we wait for proof or until it becomes undeniable to finally admit the acts this Admin has committed are Close Enough to warrant a Halt to the process?
Must we get to the point of attack dogs, fire hose, lynchings to finally admit We have treated the Gay population as Non Equal Too?
Who wants thing to progress to those points before we Say STOP!
It amazes me how many are willing to point out th eatrocities committed by the Nazi's , yet ignore the signs which indicate we are heading down the same road, Esp in regards to our Constitutional rights. These people are willing to badger the Germans who said & did Nothing, yet are acting in the same 'Ignorance is Bliss' mode.
Granted the Gay Movement MUST not become those they are battling through aggressive means...Reason MLK asked for Civil disobedience, not Race Wars. what do you have left of your dignity when you reort to methods used by your foes...You are not then the solution, you are part of the Problem. Reason Jesus said 'Turn the other Cheek' was to beg you Not to become that which has Oppressed You. Case in Point..who gives a shit if it's called a marriage or a union as long as the laws proteting them are the same. Who really gives a shit if th eCatholics Won't 'marry you in the eyes of God'..they wouldn't marry me & my husband either...and I'm a baptized Catholic, who 'achieved' her first communion (I've since Recovered). So Pick your fights, not by the Standards the Neo Cons are telling you to, but by what really matters. the Neo Cons goal is to facilitate of BS Conflict so they want you to fight for the Verbage/Rhetoric because THAT fires Up their base to wage war against you. Take the legalized 'Unions' and get over the Religious implications of 'marriage'.Stop protesting outside the Churches (they won't 'Marry' many Heteros either) and protest the Legislators. You are wasting your time and merely building resentment against your cause. Same goes for the Like s of PETA..Your Outrageous acts does nothing to help animal Welfare. And Expecting everyone to become Vegatarians is about as sociopathic as those who want all Americans to be Evangelical 'Christians'.And WE all Know how Stupid that Fantiasy is.
Huckabee is doing nothing but petting his followers (which is miniscle considering how shitty he did in the primaries) But he will be far more successful if he gets an Out of Control reaction from the left...he's Egging you On my Liberal Friends. Turn the other Cheek and Walk away, don't give him fuel for this social cross Burning.

Mike Huckabee should go home and shut up.Every time he opens his mouth he makes a fool of himself. He may be a decent person but if he is, he should stop talking in public.

I, too, was brought up as a Christian. But even at an early age I rejected the idea that Christianity was the only religeon. If what I was taught is true, Jesus said that we should be kind to each other and not inflict any harm.

It sickens me to hear the "born again Chritians" advocating such intolerance and hatred. It occurs to me that if Jesus saw what they are about he would really be pissed because he taught compassion and love.

To hear those others talk about the Rapture, or as I call it, the rupture, it sounds so stupid that it's risable. The idea of these puritanical bigots being picked up out of their clothes and taken up to heaven naked strikes me as a contradiction of the first order.

A reporter at one of their meetings with Nagy and Lieberman there, asked one of the couples who were glazed eyed wishing for the rapture to take place, if he could have their car when they left.It put the whole thing in perspective.

Unfortunately, the Republican primaries served to find more "reasonable-sounding", "moralistic-appearing" water carriers for the moral minority.

Americans are moral, and because they are moral, they cringe at torture in their name, at harassment at the workplace and most of all, at labeling and profiling people. For the right to continue this kind of persecution and screaming their persecution is the worst of all hypocrisy, but then FOX is where pornography and violence can continue to be sold without a blink of conscience.

There is less difference between Huckabee and Palin than we think. He just appears more reasonable, but that doesn;t make people like him, Giuliani, and Thompson any less dangerous.
The Neanderthal party needs to be exposed once and for all, or may be they can be convinced their mass manipulator, Dick Cheney, can call for and prepare a circular firing.

Shuckabee's Crusade

"Huckabee explained, 'There is a difference between the civil rights movement of African-Americans who were essentially hosed down in the streets by Bull Connor in Birmingham and beaten with their skulls crashed in on the bridges of Selma for being black, not for their behavior, not for anything other than their race.'"

I think you have to see where the creepy thing is coming from: When he says that African-Americans were persecuted "...not for their behavior," he betrays his blind acceptance of loony tunes fundamentalist bigots who keep insisting that being gay or lesbian is a choice, that the sexual minorities are made, not born; that gay orientation is a matter or nurture, not nature.

Duh! First off, this position totally contradicts his own religion, which teaches that "God" made everything. If God made homosexuals, "He" must have wanted homosexuals around. The only bases for these dangerous nut jobs' position is "scripture," amounting to one book of the O.T. and one in the New.

The O.T. reference to "abomination," &c. is in Leviticus, and as the new (and immensely popular) video, Prop. 8: The Musical points out, latter-day Christians of Huckabee's ilk selectively honor that one injunction and waive all the rest, including proscriptive tonsurial requirements, kosher food, &c. Lot, you know, had incest with his own daughters, but "God" thought that was O.K.

In the N.T., only that misogynistic homophobe Saul Paul Tarsus ranted against the "abomination." In all likelihood, Saul Paul was homosexual himself, and his internalized self-loathing prompted him to speak for "God." Hey, the man wasn't even a Pope.

Shuckabee is a disgrace to political history. His theocratic doctrines are a threat to democracy. For example, he wants the Constitution to be subject to Biblical morality. Would that eventually mean that American Muslims would have to convert? Shuckabee's problem is that he is still living in the past; the remote past: the 11th century.

One more time, slowly: Christianity is a Middle Eastern religion. All four major religions are, including Satanism, which has its own covert denominations in the other three.
These religions are popular because: they oppress women, always popular with lovers of cheap and free labor; and they exhort their congregations that it's God's will to successfully steal from opposing faiths.
And discrimination? Homosexuality is just organized segregation, and homosexual men encourage denigration of women at every turn. Lesbians and straight men benefit from economic discrimination by gaining free house labor filed under the social lie "relationship".

I am a stright, white, older than middle aged, male, atheist, professional with a doctor's degree level education...just for full disclosure. I live in the middle of a gay neighborhood in Seattle. Many of my friends are gay or lesbian. I celebrate Pride days with them. We must not lose sight of progressive goals which I believe include fighting for civil rights for all, avoiding bigotry of any kind and speaking out against those who threaten these principles. If we want to remain credible we should avoid name calling and puerile behavior. We should point out the various kinds of violence and bigotry no matter if they are those of our own sympathizers. We should not attempt to defend anyone for their poor judgment and actions if those actions infringe on others. We must never stop working for civil liberties, but we should avoid language and behavior that bring discredit on us. I truly believe that most Americans just want to live and let live and are not interested in trying to take away the rights of others, although Religious zelots of all kinds are very shrill and omnipresent. There are many of them in our nation, but the election of Obama has given us insight into how many of us there really are and how many truly progressive people are amoung the younger voters in this country. Continue to work for justice for all and perhaps as more justice for all becomes a reality we will all start to see how pernicious injustice really is. Huckabee is just a little younger than I am and we will both die soon enough. May the younger, more diverse progressives amoung us live on to work for the freedoms of all.

The world is a dangerous place as long as Xtianity is giving equal or disproportionate sway in civil affairs.

It's Religion I detest. I do not 'hate' Christians. For 3 main reasons I have declared War on Religion, and I try to fight that war every day: 1. Because Religion tells us the horse excrement that we humans are a 'Special Creation', all the other animals ( we humans are animals, too) are treated like excrement.
(Imagine if your grasping hand was a hoof or paw, where would your delusory 'superiority' over the other animals be then? Rather we have bullying dominance. Eg. Sarah Palin, moose murderer.) 2. Religion makes people into intellectual cripples, robbing them of reason, common sense, the ability to think critically, etc. I call the religious 'the thinkless' (like the toothless, the friendless, etc.)
3. Religion divides us, observably lethally, into Christians, Muslims, Jews, Sikhs, Hindus, etc, when in fact we are all just human beings, such that "every man is my brother, every woman my sister." (So said Richard Leakey, as we are all one spiecies, Homo sapiens. But 85-95% of people are scientifically illiterate, sadly.) Religion can be lethal. We have enough with melanoma, heart attack, car crshes, etc. I want to kill off Religion before it gets me killed over non-existent gods. "There probably are no gods. Just cause no harm or hurt, help out, enjoy your life, and try and do something worthwhile with your life." Pass it on. (Paraphrased from Atheist/Humanist anti-Religion campaign message (Britain). Religion is shaman-priest-mullah propaganda designed to manipulate the weak-minded. I'm sorry to say it but priests are like parasites - they should get a real job and work for a living.

I have lived a long time, perhaps too long. I have watched myself go from a loving creature to an angry solipsist spewing self immolative garbage at everyone. The home grown shrinks will tell you that no one is capable of this kind of introspection, it has been my experience that idiom holds sway because the mental masterbationists have no intestinal fortitude or testicular pendulosity

That is to say, grab your ankles Annie it is about to become a humpy ride. No one religionist or otherwise has even the slightest inkling of a notion how to machinate the precepts of men. This has become the job of the priest/polemicist crowd since time immemorial. It takes no rocket scientist to see we have attempted to put a .50 caliber round into a .457 breech and have become stuck like a couple of dogs on a tarmac! Any personal etiology on the condition of other human’s properties intellectual or otherwise is precisely why we cannot get along.

J.C. or Yeshua bin Yeuseph bar David as an Aramaean might call him said the same thing to us 20 centuries ago and everyone decided to kill the messenger immediately before he could perpetrate his kind among the general population. Those objectors were more than 85% effective in wiping his thoughts out. That is also counting the Religion pushers of the day who claimed they were furthering that infant Religion. By the way Jesus was a Carpenter not a Fisherman like Peter. The Christian faith chose the symbol of the fish rather than a saw to caricaturize itself because it is easier to draw, and everyone marked Peter as the builder of the Church.

I have nothing against the Carpenter, the structure he had in mind or his modus operandi. His followers though, “The Elect” I hold responsible for breaking all the wrong headed obscurantism afoot on the planet today. There are a few, “Closet Christians” who are holdouts from the Apostasy and Heresy being blathered about by so called traditionalists and new ageists alike. Generally however these are still silenced by death or threat of imprisonment by charges of intellectual terrorism.

It is time to extract the cranial protuberance from the orifice of the fundament and clean out the eyes so the first thing you see is not shit! Get thee out from behind Satan (organized Government) , and take responsibility for Governing yourself for a change. Let go and let God, yes I know all animals fight among one another, but, it is seldom to the death because even the least of these Earths children, recognize the need to continue experience! It is only through Human irresponsibility and invasive emotional depredations that the earth and its children have problems.

From one angry solipsist to another, when I spew garbage I work to make sure it's not self immolative. It has been my experience that idiom is the order of the day and that “the mental masterbationists have no intestinal fortitude or testicular pendulosity” is a cupidic cheapshot practiced by someone lacking either.

Extraction of one's cranial protuberance from one's fundament is good advice for all, but might be damaging such as in the case of Bill O'Really's protuberance. The anguish of Christianity can be avoided completely by understanding there is NO GOD and that the Bible is a collection of self-contradictory stories by authors UNKNOWN!

Anger Does Not Equal Solution

There is no lack of grievances and hurt for all kinds of humans - whether gay or Christian - or whatever. The point should be that, as ML King pointed out: Violence begets violence, hatred begets hate.

People may not be able to like or love - or even forgive - those who do and say hurtful things. But we can all agree to simply be civilized. Comparing people to dung, seeking their misery - does not result in a better world for anyone.

As for the government - it should not take "sides" with anyone. It's role is to make laws that protect legal rights of everyone. Therefore, I agree with the blogger who said that civil unions (with exactly the same rights as "marriage") should be acceptable to gays. Demanding government endorsed "marriage" is really trying to force opposing religious and moral views on Christians by fiat. It is equivalent to their forcing the government to support their stand (which is wrong).

I believe that, in fact, it is not the government that should decide who is "married" and who is not. It should just provide the legal privileges now associated with that word to ALL - gay or straight, without discrimination. People could then go and have their own ceremonies, call their relationships whatever is meaningful to them - and it will be nobody else's business. This would be real equality. That is what we would do if both groups were not more interested in beating down the other than in fairness before the law.
