The private security firm Blackwater is planning to offer a new service to make money: protection from the pirate-infested waters off the coast of East Africa. "Blackwater's push to land its first antipiracy contract is part of a strategy to build its business outside its State Department security work in Iraq, which brings in between $300 million and $400 million a year." The security company may be looking for new lucrative opportunities partly because the Iraqi government has now ratified a law stripping Blackwater contractors of immunity. Indeed, Blackwater spokeswoman Anne Tyrrell noted the legal benefits of operating in the open sea: "We would be allowed to fire if fired upon; the right of self-defense is one that exists in international waters."

Pirates fighting pirates. (Hmm.. Maybe the "bad" pirates are the dark-skinned pirates and the "good" pirates are the light-skinned pirates. Other than that, how are they going to tell each other apart??? Geesh.)

Let 'em go teach some other country that employing them is worse than living with whatever they were hired to fix, not to mention highly expensive.

And they steal the fillings out of the teeth of the dead people they killed that you didn't necessarily want dead.

Let the oil-producing nations pay blackwater to protect their cargo, instead of the US doing it for free.

Enthusiastically bomb Somalia when it starts attaining the wrong sort of stability, support a murderous invasion for the same reason, say nothing when your proxy invader empties whole cities, and sit back and watch a country disintegrate into utter anarchy. Other countries send their fisherman to exhaust Somalia's fisheries, and then you have local seamen with no visible means of support. None of that excuses piracy, but it might help explain it. Its also worth noting that those nasty pirates rarely kill hostages (no economic gain in it) so you could argue that they are less destructive of human life than Blackwater.

When will the West learn that our actions have consequences? Do you really believe that you can trash countries and peoples and there will be no blowback?
