The Bush Administration is engaged in a last-minute flurry of efforts to open up environmentally sensitive and protected wilderness in Utah to drilling for oil and gas. Renowned actor, director and environmental activist Robert Redford appeared on The Rachel Maddow Show to denounce these final attempts to relax environmental regulations, an issue about which he recently blogged for the Huffington Post.WATCH:

I'm a lifelong fisherman.
I love to flyfish and am extremely responsible about the environment around me.
A lot of places I used to fish were pristine and pleasantly clean.
The more damn FIBs that came up here with their PT boats and destroyers, the murkier and weedy the water became.

I still find secluded places to fish and, when someone asks where I fished, I always say, an area lake.
I love to eat bluegills and could live on them.
Fishing for them in a calm lake with pads & rushes is the very definition of peaceful.

Redford asks Americans to fight for wilderness areas

American Veteran does not give a damn about Redford, although Redford is fighting for American Veteran's pristine fishing holes.

Wish there were more men around like Redford when all the rivers and streams in Mendocino County were becoming silted up due to clear cutting of the Redwood Forests. Steelhead fishing ain't what it used to be in Northern California, American Veteran.

So, American Veteran, what have you yourself done to preserve wilderness areas for America's children and grandchildren? Why disrespect Redford? He's done much for fly fishing. By the way, he produced one of the best films on the sport ever.

Well heck, it sounds like you at least pack out your beer cans when you leave your favorite fishing spot. Good soldier.

AMERICAN SOLDIER AND THE ENVIRONMENT

It is not about Redford, Mr. AS. It is about clean water and a legacy for our children. I am thrilled you know where to go for your fishing, but NOWHERE on the planet is pristine any longer once you dig below the visual.

It is your right to like or not like a person, to agree or disagree with them. These are rights you most likely have thought you were protecting in one scam war or another. You do not mention where you served but perhaps you have suffered a little damage upstairs to be so arrogant as to only care about your own fishing rights.

But instead of allowing others this right, you get all aggressive and nasty. This reaction makes me wonder if you are not a born n bred republican with that "to hell with the rest, I am getting MINE" mindset that the neocons have been forcing on the rest of us for the past decades. This is the mindset these bastards want to leave us with when finally they leave office.

I, too, know where to go for "pristine" wilderness and fishing, but I would never think of dissing those who are standing to fight this noble fight because clean water, fresh air, and natural places are all becoming endangered because of such attitudes.

Redford is espousing something in an honest fashion, unlike all the trendy young stars who back up the scam known as "global warming."

GO BLUE EYES GO!
