Gingrich: Palin Will Not Be the Future GOP Leader

If there's a push in some conservative circles to consider Sarah Palin the future of the GOP, and I believe there is, some high-profile Republicans aren't exactly on board. Last week, members of the Republican Governors Association were less than pleased with a Palin-centered focus, and yesterday, Newt Gingrich resisted the idea of Palin leadership.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) is batting down the hype that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin heads into 2012 as the frontrunner for the GOP presidential nomination.

...Gingrich, an architect of the Republican revolution of 1994, took Palin down a notch, asserting that she would not become the party's leader, as some have predicted.

"I think that she is going to be a significant player," said Gingrich during an interview on CBS's "Face the Nation". "But she's going to be one of 20 or 30 significant players. She's not going to be the de facto leader."

Since the defeat of the GOP ticket, Palin has pursued an aggressive media strategy, scheduling a full slate of interviews to keep her face on television.... But Gingrich on Sunday sought to divert some media attention away from Palin and to other governors such as Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) and Utah Gov. John Huntsman (R).

"She's going to be a much bigger story in the short run," said Gingrich, explaining Palin's higher media profile compared to other GOP governors. "But, I think, as she goes back to being governor and as she works in Alaska, you're going to see a group of governors emerge, not just Sarah Palin."

Palin may want to the ostensible leader of the party, but those with similar ambitions aren't going to just hand her the reins.

TIME TO GO BACK TO WASILLA

The "small town gal" seems to like life in the big city. She has become the woman at the party who gets drunk and embarasses herself and everyone else. Someone feels sorry for her and drives her home. It's time to go home, Sarah. ANNA

I'm fine with Palin smashing the GOP - let's make sure she doesn't smash Wikipedia in the process

Palin's wikipedia article is surprisingly tame, with no mention of her inciting death threats against Obama, nothing about Thomas Muthee, and absurdly positive in its take on Palin's mayorship and gubernatorial career. If you look at the discussion and the talk archives, you see that several Republican operatives are logged on to her Wikipedia article at any one time, making sure that any mention of the disastrous aspects of her campaign, career, and beliefs are removed within minutes of being posted.

I'd love for Palin to run again in 2012, and flounder as the money men back Romney or Jindal - fracturing the party and perhaps even running as the candidate of the far-right Constitution Party, sucking religious voters from the GOP and ensuring a second term for Obama. But I hate people who use Wikipedia as a forum for BS. Flood Wikipedia's administrators with complaints - get the article branded as "disputed."

How About Newt?

While Newt is quick to point out that Palin is failin as the defacto leader of the Republican Party, where does he think he fits in? He had his chance in the sun when he rode into town in '94 and like a lot of them, Tom DeLay for one glaring example, totally and completely blew it.

If the Republicans are going to put their party together again, it should be with some of these young governors who have risen up out of the ashes of the '08 elections, and Newt completely on the sidelines. This is just an observation. I am gloriously happy with the Nov. 4th results. lol

between now and 2012 for some intelligent republicans (and there must be some, yes?) to emerge. just as obama made a meteoric rise, perhaps some young gun with a better grasp of facts and a more humanitarian vision than the one we see from attila from wasilla will show up on the repug radar. wouldn't it be refreshing to be able to choose from the better of two goods than from the lesser of two evils for a change? (not a reflection on obama; just a comment on how it usually goes)

Newt Gingrich makes me wretch. What does one have to do to be completely discredited and effectively banned from the inner circle of punditocracy? If you're a chubby-faced Republican who can smile through the "political hardship" of getting caught with your fat fist firmly in the cookie jar, there apparently is no limit.

Yes, Palin should be sent back to Alaskan obscurity, but Gingrich and others of that ilk should be bundled together (like sub-prime mortgages) and sent with her.
