The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Michael Moore's new documentary will focus on the global financial crisis and the U.S. economy. Moore is "feverishly shooting," and it is expected to come out as early as this spring. "The untitled movie will contain an end-of-the-empire tone, say those familiar with the project." Craig Minassian, an entertainment consultant, said, "If Moore offers a prescription for how to improve things, he may indeed find an audience that at this moment is eager for change," but cautioned "it's going to be hard for him. What this election shows is what's right with America, and sometimes what Michael Moore does is highlight what's wrong with America."

The quoted source, Craig Minassian, ...cautioned "it's going to be hard for him (Moore). What this election shows is what's right with America, and sometimes what Michael Moore does is highlight what's wrong with America."

Nothing's right with America. This recent election was no panacea nor a magic wand. Both parties are corrupt and our economic AND political systems are unsound and profoundly anti-human.

Believe me, when "happy days are here again", we'll all know it.

Zucker vs. Moore

You might have (but probably didn't) see "An American Carol," which verbally and physically assaulted a Moore-like "Hollywood moviemaker" as being "anti-American," then had a series of ghosts escort him through periods of American history, the result being that he finally "got it" and gave up his wicked ways. At least that's what I understand from the trailers, clips and reviews I've seen.

I didn't see the movie, nor did most folks, as it sank like a stone in the weekly box office reports. Some of my relatives did see it, though, and even went back to see it again. They thought it was hilarious, and that those who disagreed are just a bunch of typically humorless, bitter liberals.

I don't quite understand the animosity among the white working class toward Moore, as most of his work that I've seen tends to attack those who exploit the working class ("Roger and Me," "Sicko"). My best guess is that "Bowling for Columbine" turned the NRA-types against him, as there seem to be so many in this country for whom the 2nd Amendment is the only part of the Constitution that really counts, the ones whose pickup trucks bore "Charlton Heston is my President" bumper stickers.

Myself, I feel Moore frequently goes over the top, I don't hold my breath waiting for his latest production, but I do enjoy hearing what he has to say now and then. As long as the "other guys" have over-the-top mouthpieces like O'Reilly, Hannity, Coulter, Savage, Limbaugh, et al, I feel it's only fair that there are people like Michael Moore to provide a little left-side balance to that heavily right-leaning seesaw.

the old Russian samisdat. After Fahrenheit 911 the right wing doesn't want Michael Moore's creations to circulate. In my state SICKO played in only one theatre in the whole state. It seems really strange to refer to this as an accident. To rule out conspiracy includes ruling out conspirators.

The content of SICKO is its strength. It speaks for itself. Like the Soviet Union our intelligentsia is closer to underground than is comfortable.
