Joe Lieberman is in the best position to rid us all of Joe Lieberman. I don't have first, second, or even third-hand evidence to support this assertion, but I will state it confidently anyway... Joe Lieberman is the person who probably has the least restricted access to Joe Lieberman. If anyone can convince Joe Lieberman to leave, it would be Joe Lieberman.

That is how Joe Lieberman can help.

Barring that, I hope he chokes on a pretzel.

I’m a progressive who could not warm up to Joe Lieberman even if we both died and were cremated together.

Lieberman proudly retains his neocon credentials in spite of eight years of disastrous foreign policy blunders by the neocon-led Bush regime.

Lieberman turned a blind eye to GOP attacks on the U.S. Constitution and the rule of law.

He supported every Middle East warmongering initiative of the Bush regime, and made things worse for both Israel and the Palestinians, with increased deaths on both sides, and with no peace in sight.

Standing out in stark contrast are the contributions of Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton to peace in the Middle East.

Consider Carter’s sustained efforts leading to the signing of a permanent peace agreement between Israel and Egypt in 1979—a peace agreement that has never been broken by either party. That required Carter’s strength, integrity and moral leadership—in short, diplomacy—something missing from Lieberman’s and the GOP’s toolkit.

Likewise, Clinton had a key role in supporting the peace process that led to the signing of a permanent peace agreement between Israel and Jordan in 1994, which agreement has never been broken.

With friends like Lieberman, Israel needs no enemies.

I think that is what the Dems are planning. Let him stay, but keep a very close eye on him and let him undermine himself - as the first post stated.

Then he can't whine (in his awful whiny voice) that he was railroaded or forced out.

He can go down in history with Benedict Arnold.

Not good enough. Basically, this is like forcing a kid to apologize for something he's not sorry at all he did. Say the magic words and it goes away. Well no, it doesn't. It just adds on another layer of dishonesty to the whole system. I understand what Bayh is saying, but "I'm sorry" is not going to fix it because it means nothing.

If you want to see the true face of the DLC's 'Third Way' look to LIEberman.
The DLC is th eBlue arm of the Corporationists- their 'fearless leaders' are the Clintons.
Ever notice how much Hillary sounded like a Republican....Exactly like McCain.

Frankly the focus on the transgressions of LIEberman regarding Sen Obama are far less agregious than those committed by Hillary- suposedly a 'Democrat'. Hillary was playing out of th eNeo con 'Handbook' and LIEberman just followed HER lead- Just like Mac's campaign. Could she set Mac's campaign up better with illegitmate attacks?
Granted at this point we can't push all the DLC'ers Out of the Dem party, Bu twe can certainly start weeding them out through Attrition- If they say they are a 'Reagan Democrat' you'll Know they work for the Corporations and THEIR best interest.
I'm outraged that there is talk of making Hillary Sec of State...The same woman who parroted Mac's 'Bomb bomb bomb Iran' with "Obliterate Iran", are you fucking kidding me???The same woman who voted with this corrupt admin every step of the way down this damn rabbit hole? According to Bayh, Lieberman will become bitter if he cannot be the chairman and may leave and could be replaced by a Republican. This is more blackmail from Joe. In a position of authority, Joe will undermine the President, will leak, and will work against the best interests of the core principles of the party. Joe has to give up the Chair and the Democrats have to cut their losses. Blackmail is not the way to go.

There are consequences for your actions. It is only as adults we find out that is true, unless you are rich or a politician.

This sends a message to all future candidates for office (any office really). You can lie as much as you want to about your opponent, or slander a member of your own party to help the opposing party (how twisted is that) and when the campaign is over - no consequences.

Zero.

Not a good message to send.

Period.

Asking Lieberman to apologize is insane. It's just more of this crazy-making crap - an illogical disconnect that too many people seem to see as a valid action. I really wonder, sometimes, if our water has been infected with some strange ingredient that allows people to view insane behavior and insane responses to that behavior as acceptable. It's like America accepting Palin as a viable VP. It's so insane it makes the ones who are still thinking sputter with confusion - How Can People Be SO Stupid? Or Confused? Or What On Earth Is Happening Here? Asking Lieberman to apologize falls into the growing collection of insane disconnects. And amounts to yet another free pass to another corrupt individual. Take away Lieberman's power. Take him off of all committees, and run him out of office. If he wants to stay in the game, he can start with the truth and run as the right-of-right neocon Republican that he really is.

Bayh was a big war supporter too....that doesn't make him right. I guess I'm not a politician....I actually believe that there is right and wrong and that Lieberman is wrong, has been wrong and will continue to be wrong into the future. I am willing, however, to hold a sword over his head so that he votes EXACTLY along the Democratic Party Line every time. That would be really painful for him, so I like it.

All this talk about Lieberman! What about the crimes of the Bush administration? Are the democrats going to demand justice for the American people or allow future presidents to garner and use the powers Bush has stolen without fear of recrimination?
Not bringing the Bush criminals to justice will set a horrendous precedent.
