Sarah Palin Just Can't Stop Attacking Obama

Posted by Steve Benen, Washington Monthly at 1:52 PM on November 12, 2008.

I'm curious if Palin can hear the words coming out of her mouth while she's speaking.

There are plenty of reasons to be glad the presidential election is over, but one of my favorites is that we won't have to hear the same tired smears against Barack Obama. By the time 2012 rolls around, his Republican detractors will be attacking him for developments over the next four years, not talking about flag pins, Britney Spears, spreading the wealth, and Bill Ayers.

But some folks apparently aren't quite ready to move on just yet. Consider this exchange between CNN's Wolf Blitzer and Sarah Palin that will air this afternoon:

BLITZER: [D]uring a campaign, every presidential campaign, things are said, it's tough, as you well know, it gets sometimes pretty fierce out there. And during the campaign, you said this, you said: "This is not a man who sees America as you see it and how I see America." And then you went on to say: "Someone who sees America, it seems, as being so imperfect that he is palling around with terrorists who would target their own country."
PALIN: Well, I still am concerned about that association with Bill Ayers. And if anybody still wants to talk about it, I will, because this is an unrepentant domestic terrorist who had campaigned to blow up, to destroy our Pentagon and our U.S. Capitol. That's an association that still bothers me. And I think it's still fair to talk about it.

Palin then went on to say that "now is the time to move on," and that the "chapter is closed."

Honestly, what is she talking about? Palin still thinks it's "fair to talk about" Bill Ayers, and she brags that if "anybody still wants to talk about" Ayers, she will. Literally a few seconds later, Palin thinks we should "move on" because "the campaign is over."

I'm curious if Palin can hear the words coming out of her mouth while she's speaking.

My hunch is, the talking point smears are so well ingrained in Palin's mind, hearing Blitzer say the words "pal around with terrorists" necessarily prompted her to start spewing her scripted nonsense all over again. It's as if she momentarily forgot that Election Day has come and gone, so she repeated the words she'd said thousands of times before.

It's kind of sad, really.

Digg!

Maybe she can't form any new memories... it's already clear that she can't form coherent thoughts. That might do it, if the condition were severe enough.

What she said during the campaign incited people to violent thoughts of assasination.

What's she trying to do, get Obama killed so she can plow through that "OPEN DOOR" that God would create for her?

If you ask me this woman should be put in an institution for the criminally insane.

Someone please ask Sarah how Trig is and what advice she has to other mothers of children of children with Down Syndrome and whether she plans to become an advocate for children and families affected by this health and disability issue?
Or is she just thinking about her own political career, as she seems to be doing?
Or is the press so uninterested in the little baby they don't bother to ask such an obvious question?

Palin needs to keep her name in the news, and taking the Limbaugh-Coulter line is a good way to do it. She has to stoke the fires of hatred and intolerance to keep herself viable for future forays onto the national stage. She's a flaming narcissist, and craves attention.

However, it's going to backfire. My guess is that Obama's going to be a pretty good and popular president, and Palin trashing him and continuing to advocate the same reckless, destructive policies that have made Bush's name almost profane will do the same to hers.

The insanity level of neo-cons & the weird things they believe--mostly that no one is worthy but them--has no bounds.
Palin should have been arrested for inciting to riot, calling Obama a traitor, & inciting others to kill Obama in her nasty speeches.
I blame her hyped up rhetoric if something happens.
She's overseeing the obviously rigged Alaska election--a Repub has agreed to make Stevens step down--because supposedly Alaska elected him, a felon--even though all the polls showed he was far behind his rival--& guess who will appoint herself to take Stevens place in our Congress? The Governor.
YOU BETCHA! Know-nothing Palin.
Can you believe she actually marketed herself to McCain as VP? Yes she did. Even though she knows absolutely NOTHING! Not what countries are in NAFTA, not what the VP DOES--nothing.
That's how stupid she is--thinking no one would notice.

Why doesn't anyone in the media ever bring up the fact that Hillary Clinton brought up the Ayers thing, Obama explained the very minimal contact he's had with him and it's over and done with? In a court of law, the objection would be "asked and answered," which means "drop it and move on."
If she really wants to continue to bring up terrorists, she needs to look at her husband. She is a moron and a divider and I want her to stay in Alaska and never leave it.

Note to the media's corporate owners: no matter how badly you want to keep the conservative presidential bid in the public eye to help set up your neocon benefactors for the next election cycle, Obama will be our next president and Democrats will control the legislature. Change is finally on the way, thank goodness; so either get with the program or get out of the way.

The more we know

about Sarah Palin, the more people can see how uninformed and ambitious she is. It's a deadly combination, but if we stop talking about her or exposing her, she can work in the dark toward her next bid for the presidency or senate or whatever she decides God wants her to do.

I believe it's imperative that her connections to the Alaskan Independence Party are examined and publicly discussed, particularly her husband's membership and her video greeting to their convention in (I believe) 2008. I've never seen the video, and I'm not sure if it's even available, but it would be a very good thing if it were.

It's amazing that Palin is still so high profile in spite of the nasty smears about her that were recently promoted by none other than the McCain campaign people. As I recently read, if the charges that she didn't know Africa was a continent and could not name the countries in NAFTA are true, it certainly does not speak well for the Republican choice of VP. If the charges are not true, it's just one more ugly little insight into the workings of the GOP noise machine.

Either way, the rumors create a lose-lose situation for Republicans in general. However, if the rumors are false, it does make Palin look better - or at least like a victim of her own party. And it could very well work in her favor, making her fans think that other allegations are not true either. It's sort of like kids being told that marijuana is a deadly substance, and when they find out that isn't true, they think heroin must be OK too.

All of this needs to be held to the light and examined by the media, by both parties, and by the progressive community. If we ignore her and she does not go away, we don't want to wake up some day and see that she has been working under the radar and suddenly has a huge support system trying to ensure her election to public office. She's nothing if not resilient, and our pretending she doesn't exist will not change that.

What a poor, pitiful buffoon she is showing herself to be. She has shown that she has barely the basic knowledge to be on the national stage. She makes a fool of herself every time she speaks and doesn't even realize it. How the GOP could put their faith in an under educated simpleton such as Sarah Palin is beyond me. Let them run her against Obama in 2012. He will eat her alive and spit out her uneducated remains.

You do so at your peril.

She already has a huge support system, a global one, and she has a lot of money at her disposal. The fact that her followers are willing to do violence is not coincidental.

Please, please, please, do yourselves a favor and really look at her religious connections. Not just that they act strangely in church, but the plan for world domination that they have. These folks are serious, and they are playing for keeps. They will start wherever they can, and grow their strength within any government agency they can. They did not grab the brass ring this time around, but be assured, they are not done with trying.

Be sure to watch the second video

Camille Paglia loses her marbles
Posted by: zipper696 on Nov 13, 2008 10:02 AM
Current rating: 3    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
Paglia has been lauding Palin for weeks and continues to tell us how wrong we are about her - in Salon this week she whines:

"...A shocking level of irrational emotionalism and at times infantile rage was exposed at the heart of current Democratic ideology -- contradicting Democratic core principles of compassion, tolerance and independent thought. One would have to look back to the Eisenhower 1950s for parallels to this grotesque lock-step parade of bourgeois provincialism, shallow groupthink and blind prejudice.

I like Sarah Palin, and I've heartily enjoyed her arrival on the national stage. As a career classroom teacher, I can see how smart she is -- and quite frankly, I think the people who don't see it are the stupid ones, wrapped in the fuzzy mummy-gauze of their own worn-out partisan dogma. So she doesn't speak the King's English -- big whoop! There is a powerful clarity of consciousness in her eyes. She uses language with the jumps, breaks and rippling momentum of a be-bop saxophonist. I stand on what I said (as a staunch pro-choice advocate) in my last two columns -- that Palin as a pro-life wife, mother and ambitious professional represents the next big shift in feminism. Pro-life women will save feminism by expanding it, particularly into the more traditional Third World."

As a lowly HS dropout I'm frankly staggered and appalled that Ms Paglia could spout such wrongheaded trash and not seek physchiatric help.
My added emphases above show her accusing Dems on the very crimes that Palin perpetrated throughout the campaign and the ludicrous idea that espousing a pro-life stance would be helpful to Third World women begggars belief.

Could we organise a collection to send Paglia to Alaska where these two harpies can bask in the warmth of their mutual self regard?

This, I think, is the reason we keep harping on Palin; that, and the fact that she just won't go away. Her religious beliefs are scary and dangerous; she apparently thinks it's okay to do anything to "unbelievers" in the name of God. I keep thinking of the Branch Davidians and Jonestown. People can get caught up in these movements before they realize what they've embraced, often because they've had difficult times in their past and are unaware that it's caused by their inability to think for themselves. Palin thinks, in her tiny little brain, that she has a mandate from God. May He save us from her and anyone like her.

She can't let go because she has a one-track mind.

Those ignorant and irrelevant words helped cost her and McCain the election. For all the external charm, she continues to expose her vicious innards to the world. I would love to hear some behind-the-scenes stories from her opponents in the beauty contest arena.

She will continue to harp on nonsense as long as the media keeps giving her a platform to do so. She has moved beyond politics to entertainment but has only the one act!

Pretty soon everyone will tire of her and stop caring what she is saying or doing...except perhaps in Alaska.

I'm not really sure if Palin is extremely concerned with Obama's assocations or if she's genuinely worried about her country as a result or if she's just being opportunistic. However, the attacks and lies about Palin by the Obama campaign and his supporters is equal to if not greater than this. What about all the book banning and special needs funding lies? What about all the psychopathic sexists at Obama rallies who talked about raping Palin and wearing "Palin is a cunt" gear? For Obama supporters to claim the moral high ground here without equally criticizing their own attacks only comes off as hypocritical. I get that the obsession with Ayers is a little much and probably doesn't reflect on Obama's personal convictions, but I also get that if it were any other presidential candidate, they would have been kicked out of the race long ago for launching their political career with someone like that. Once again, Obama gets away with it and I think that is what blows the minds of Clinton and McCain supporters alike.

Why isn't the secret service investigating this woman. she certainly is a traitor and should be treated as such. Her mouth is always spewing hatred.Shes a liar and a national enemy.please send her back to Alaska and keep her there. I dont particularly like Ayers but it seems to me that she is worse than he is. what makes this woman think that she is Gods gift to the world. Please someone send her home!!!!!
