Obama Victory Boosts Gun Sales

Posted by Steven Rosenfeld at 12:03 PM on November 9, 2008.

According to Reuters, the Democratic victory on Tuesday is boosting gun sales in parts of the country that are fearful of new gun control laws.

The victory by Barack Obama and Joe Biden has already caused an economic boomlet, though one of arguable merit.

According to Reuters, gun sales have taken off red states following last week's presidential election. The hottest item apparently include makes and models of guns that are seen as being likely targets of new gun control laws.

The article said:

Sales of rifles, pistols and ammo are surging in parts of the United States, as many gun owners fear President-elect Barack Obama's administration may seek to tighten ownership of certain weapons.

"The day after the election, I had many more calls than usual from people looking for semi-automatic rifles," said David Greenberg, the owner of the Second Amendment Family Gun Shop, in Bisbee, Arizona, who sold out of AR-15 rifles in recent days.

"There seems to be a fear they will be banned, and it's fairly likely," he added. "Obama and Biden are driven to eliminate firearms from the face of the country."

Here's the rest of the Reuter's post.

Oh, man - these idiots are afraid Obama's going to take their guns...so they run out and buy more guns for Obama to take!

How long does it take to get a gun dealer's license?

The financial collapse. I listen to a pro-gun radio show on the Internet and people were urging each other to stock up on guns before the election. They fear civil unrest in the event of a catastrophic depression. They also fear the placing of the Army's 1st Brigade
in the US, in violation of the Posse Comitatus Act. When Biden mentioned Obama would face an "international crisis" within days of his inauguration, that also spurred sales. Of course they mention Obama wants to take away guns, but that's just part of it. I think if McSame had won, gun sales would have spiked, but perhaps to a lesser extent.

...has been to instill fear in Middle America; Muslims, Gays, Liberals, Abortionists, Uppity Blacks, they're all lurking just around the corner to plunder, rape and lay waste to American Values.

This long and successful campaign allowed the Bushies to push through The Patriot (HAH!) Act and all the many Signing Statements and Imperial Presidency moves that allowed Cheney/Rove to trample on The Constitution.

Of course these people think they "need" an AR-15, an Uzi and packs of Talon cartridges to pierce body armour. They've been fed, via Faux News eight, long years of "without a strong GOP President at the helm, the barbarians at the gates (and welfare office)will be amongst us".

Shotguns and hunting rifles have their place, a single handgun for home protection in remote communities is not a problem (until 4 year old Bobby starts playing with it), but an arsenal of 10, 20, 50 weapons including AK47's and .50 caliber combat equipment? No, that's a social sickness that needs reining in and treatment.

It's about time this became main stream.
November 5; Albuquerque Journal; Lead story;
RUN ON GUNS. Fear of losing 2nd Amendment rights spurs local sales of fire arms.
I couldn't believe it at first, but then I remembered the mentality of the right wing. Sad, huh?
Then again, The Albuquerque Journal endorsed McCain. Again, Sad.
Then again, Obama won in New Mexico. Happy day.

...I was a school teacher in a small Texas community. Several of my students opposed Carter because their parents did, and their parents opposed him primarily because, "As soon as Carter is elected, he'll take away all our guns!" I tried to explain that the President does not have the power to take away anyone's guns, and that Carter had shown no such tendencies in any case. They also assumed that, because I was a teacher, I was going to vote for Carter. Wrong. I voted for Ford.

It's amazing that we have survived this long as a nation, considering that we trust not in God, but in the same old white-middle-class myths, circulated over and over, from one generation to the next, to sustain us.

...obviously validates Obama's point, however carelessly made. I am a handgun owner (NOT law enforcement, military, or former), with a C&C card, and I think that firearms SHOULD be regulated, and education required for their acquisition and usage. After looking at some of the video links from FSA'a news item about an 8-year old losing control of a MAC-10 at a gun range in Massachusetts and shooting himself in the head (WTF!!??), it makes me sad and angry that so many so-called ADULTS think and act like children. That isn't the way I was brought up. And, please, Obama, reinstate the assault rile ban. If you think you need a military-style assault weapon to shoot Deer of Elk (or squirrels----I've seen this), then you are seriously cerebro-genitally impaired. Freedom requires responsibility and critical thinking, not letting your Hypothalamus (and the little head) do the job.

Fears of teachers, the poor, pregnant teenagers, schoolchildren, the elderly, the disabled, puppies, kittens and heaven knows what else?

Get some treatment! You are a clear and present danger, especially if you are armed to the teeth, as well.

Republicans believe that Democrats will raise taxes, take away their guns and teach their 5 year olds about sex. Democrats believe Republicans are going to outlaw abortion, spend us into oblivion and lock all the gays in the closet. Each side fears what the other will do. That fear is what divides us. Name calling and stereotypes (from both sides) doesn't help. There is only one solution... Elect ME King and Benevolent Dictator for Life. I will fix all this. AXIOM FOR EMPEROR 2012 (my name is axiom69 and I approved this message)

Obama is a constitutional lawyer

Remember when Obama commended the supreme court's revoking of the Washington D.C. handgun band? Although a couple of his campaign period votes (on initiatives that were bound, unfortunately, to pass easily...FISA seems to scream painfully loud in my head)would suggest otherwise, congressional records clearly lay out a man who favors constitutional preservation over "left" or "right". While us treehuggers are understandably a little peeved, hopefully his stance on this will keep the vigilante wing of the wingnut party as peaceful as theoretically feasible... Once they look into it that is.
