Posted by Amanda Terkel, Think Progress at 1:52 PM on November 4, 2008.

The GOP is hoping that with W. out of sight, voters will keep him out of mind.

The AP reports:

The quietest place in Washington today may have been the White House itself.

The president voted absentee several days ago, so there was no video of him at his precinct, no statements to reporters, no public appearance whatsoever.

Bush planned to spend his evening in the White House residence, watching TV coverage of election results and hosting a small dinner with his wife.

There was sure to be at least some celebrating -- today is the first lady’s birthday. Otherwise, it was a day when the White House purposely went dark.

Mr. Bush is to be used as an example of, probably, an administration run amuck.
We will be cleaning his mess up for at least 10 years. His appointments of dim wits and greedy brats goes deeper than just the heads of the departments. They are all the way down the ladder.
I only hope our new leader chooses to punish them all. Bush, Cheney, Gonzales, Rumsfeld, Ashcroft, Rove, Myers, et al to long terms in prison. They have earned it.

AWOL again from the reality of all Americans

Just like he never showed up to serve his country, just like he never showed up to protect the Constitution and chose instead to trample on it with his preemptive wars, his waterboarding and his snooping and spying, just like he never showed up in Louisiana, Alabama, Mississipi and Texas for the people he swore to protect and care for, he is just as absent this time around. This will forever be George W Bush's legacy.

Americans understand that, and all we have to do is to look at the faces of citizens who showed up last night in front of the White House. It's a remarkable mark of restraint and grace that they did not storm the gates like citizens of another nation once stormed the Bastille against unfair incarceration and torture, and yes, against the poverty which was the reality of that era.

We all take away from the sights and sounds of last night different lessons, but one of the images that will always stay with me is the juxtaposition of Jessie Jackson and John Lewis' expression of emotion and nostalgia and the look of hope and joy on the face of young Americans of all different creeds and colors.

Yes, images and symbols make a difference. And then, there's the hard work and commitment it takes to make change become a reality, and unity not just an empty promise.

You give Bush too much credit.

Bush didn't vote today, because he voted two weeks ago. He made his statement in favor of early voting and trying to stem the tide back then.

If the White House political operation had any smarts at all Cheney would never have endorsed McCain the weekend before the election.

will the World be safe from George W. Bush. Until then he still has presidential powers, so I hope he, Cheney and Rove are being very closely watched and monitored.

Bush on the Mind

There was no way that Bush wouldn't be on people's minds during this election. After the jubillation came the sobering thought that the incompetent rat still has three months in which to do incalculable damage. Or maybe he is competent and I should say that the prime thief for big business, oil, coal and gas and the rest of the disgraceful big business representatives who have spent eight years pillaging our once great nation have three more months in which to wreck havoc. It is indeed a sobering thought.

do you suppose we could just air drop all the "hawks" on the Taliban "buzzards"? They could dispose of them, and we wouldn't have to feed them the rest of their lives.

We have our mandate. Now we must punish those who have lied to us, impugned our Constitution, and caused the needless deaths of thousands. Justice must prevail.

... but not as dark, I'm sure, as the prison cell Bush will occupy if he gets what he deserves. Or as dark as his chapter will be in the final accounting of history.

On January 20, 2009, we will finally be rid of this fool, and the lights will come back on for the rest of us.

Remember, Bush doesn't know, among so many other vital facts, the meaning of "lame duck." We must not just watch him carefully but press him not to stir up more trouble anywhere; nobody in this world needs any more of his belligerent foolishness.

I say, Impeach the Imperial Clown Posse Administration now, or live to regret 70 final days of involuntary connivance in whatever he decides to do.

I heard conflicting reports yesterday, that Medvedev was either threatening or announcing the deployment of missile emplacements to the Polish border, within hours of Obama's winning the election. Bush & Co. need little more provocation to do something terminally stupid (pun intended).

We had better lean on the pathetic losers to stay in line. Multiple Web sites give you an entree to the process, from leaning on Kucinich and Conyers to report the motions to the House floor (not even wait till the new session begins at the New Year), to pressuring Pelosi to back down from her ridiculous refusal of such action, to getting rowdy and loud among your fellow citizens. To quote another famous loser, "Stand up and fight!"

Don't roll over just because the administration will be gone in January. They can still do incalculable damage to the planet and human security before then.
