Poor Bush: 'There Is a Real Sadness There' in the White House

Posted by Faiz Shakir, Think Progress at 8:02 AM on November 2, 2008.

Apparently the Bush White House doesn't enjoy being this unpopular.

The Washington Post reports today that loyal Bushies are engaging in upbeat talk to mask "disappointment and frustration among many White House staffers," who see their boss as "a good and steadfast man who has gotten a bad rap":

"Everybody kind of wanted to spend the last 100-plus days doing some legacy things, and the financial crisis has thrown a wrench into that," said one prominent Republican who regularly talks with senior White House officials.

"You have a combination of no legacy stuff, a horrible economic mess and the likelihood that Obama is going to win," this person added. "There is a real sadness there."

people who signed the petition for his impeachment, another 50 thousand submitted on 9/11/2008.

Radhika Miller of ImpeachBush:

We want to thank Dennis Kucinich for having the courage and honesty to introduce 35 articles of impeachment in June of this year. Representative Kuncinch speaks for tens of millions of people who insist that George W. Bush and Dick Cheney and all officials be held accountable for criminal misconduct, breaking the peace in an unprovoked war of aggression and for shredding the Constitution.

Oh, and there's just a couple other minor sad issues the WaPo doesn't want to mention

""You have a combination of no legacy stuff, a horrible economic mess and the likelihood that Obama is going to win," this person added. "There is a real sadness there.""

What about these gems not mentioned in the WaPo article nurturing near-universal disapproval and even justified hatred of the Bush White House and everything it stands for:

- War Crimes Trials lurking in both the US and international courts against Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rumsfeld, and their lawyer-advocates... with no statute of limitation;

- Relentless and deliberate enrichment of a tiny elite and directly against the interests of common-sense common-man everywhere;

- Expanding Investigations of the flagrant politicization of the US Justice Department with post-presidency Impeachment definitely "On The Table";

- The Shameful and internationally-embarrassing White House effort to make NIST, the FBI, FEMA and the FAA Cover Up government complicity in the 9/11 Mass Murders... again No Statute of Limitation here either;

- Killing over a million innocent Iraqi's that did not bare the name "Saddam Hussein";

- The Illegal Dumping of Millions of Public Records of this White House and the Sharing and Complicity of the RNC in the Cover Up;

- The Failed flagrant attempt to place one religion over federal policies and over other religions;

- The documented White House Authorization of War Crimes involving Torture, Rendition and suspension of Habeas Corpus;

- The Complicity of this White House in the repeated Theft of Elections;

- The Criminal Handling of Nuclear Weapons, violating arms treaties and advancement of Star Wars;

- The insider, no-bid rewarding of cronies in the weapons makers, private intelligence and private militia industries serving the insider Oiligarchy;

- The unbridled use of the main stream press to force official lies down the throats of Americans and the world;

- Enough other crimes to dwarf anything the Mafia could ever boast and too much to list on any one blog without a bank full of servers;

The Bush Legacy?

Let's put it this way, the US Constitution is going to survive in spite of the Bush-Coup, and teach us a hard-earned lesson in Liberty From Fascism.

Since the 700 Billion dollar Payoff proved that the Bush camp still has a few tricks up their sleeve, I can't believe that they are just going to roll over and die in the next few months. I still expect a few tricks and outrages.

Let's all get together and and send the chimp and his criminal enterprise a silent "wait until we show up at your front door with an arrest warrant" message of hope.

Imagine the channel for Cheney and Rove feeling "down in the dumps" when the People of this country actually got to express their feelings in an election the republicans actually failed to steal(knock on wood!!!)

the fun is just beginning!

I see this morning that a federal judge is ordering the White House to turn over all memos that state the legal basis for the warrantless wiretapping policy.

Seems it isn't so "legal" after all!

JAIL CELLS FOR ALL THOSE IN THE BUSH JUNTA!

Will the Executive Privilege continue to work?
Will John Yoo still be Bush's friend? If we don't put Cheney in jail, might some other country do it? Where's Rummy hiding? Condi Rice it's payback time. Piles of missing e-mails will have to be found and turned over to the courts. I believe this is the first time in his life that George Bush has his back to the wall and Papa Bush can't write a big enough check. I would like to find some pleasure in his misery, but he's the reason why so many people are dead. Then of course there's us. Jobs, houses and an ever increasing list of things that we are unable to control. Despite everything, there are dues to be paid. He can't be allowed to walk away from the mess he created. No more smirking and shoulder shrugging. Serious stuff George. Thanks, ANNA

Too bad he isn't feeling worse, just half as sick as we are of Cheney/Bush and the way they have moved us into Fascism. Gore won, and if he had been President, Bush would not have been able to cheat his way into a "win" in 2004. I hope the history books tell the truth about just how terrible the Cheney/Bush regime was.

I feel so sorry for those folks in this White House. After nearly destroying the US economically, ruining our standing in the world, killing tens of thousands of innocent Iraqis, killing 4000+ American troops and maiming 30,000 more, I feel real, real bad for them.

They are reaping what they have sown.

Perhaps the workers that are simply doing their clerical type work are feeling pain, but Bush feels would be just doing an act. He made out very well. He just pulled off a very succussful bail out scam. He won everything he wanted in his nearly 8 years and got away with it thanks also to Pelosi, Reid and Hoyer.

And it takes one to know one.

By February 1st he'll be back on the golf course where he always belonged, and the past eight years will be a hazy, vaguely pleasant memory.

He won't be called upon to give so many speeches or deliver any grave punditry, but that's probably all ok with him, as I don't get the sense he likes to work all that hard.

The Legacy? Shucks, he'll say, we did the best we could and History will prove we were right. Me 'n History, we're old friends, and we're goin' to get together at the club later and make a little deal, heh heh.

He's sad? Bush's emotions aren't really tied to reality, and he doesn't allow them to run too deep along very many lines, because thereby lies destruction. His emotional and intellectual abdication has been a major problem all along.

My heart is just breaking for him....NOT!

I hope the last three months in the White House are pure misery for him and his enablers. They have made us miserable for 8 long years and I could care less about their current feelings.

"A good man" indeed! Are these people really that stupid? Just like every other thing that incompetent, lazy, bumbling idiot has touched his legacy will be one of Miserable Failure. The damn shame is that we will be left with the mother of all hangovers from this rotten, corrupt, lying, cheating, murdering administration.

I hope he disappears into the plains of Texas and stays out of our sight for the rest of his miserable life. We will be providing a welfare check for that bum and his family for the balance of his life when he should be sitting in prison.

I have no sympathy for him. He deserves all the misery that is coming to him.

I don't say that as a joke.

Also, will cheney, et al find a non-extradition country in which to hide like all cowards do?

If the right and moral thing is to be done, they MUST be put in prison.

for him or his cronies or the poor staffers. They were all cried out when I buried my niece in Section 60.

I just wish him awareness of what he has done and that he soon realize that he is the 43rd best president we have had.

Others here are more eloquent than I have been in this thread and I thank you for expressing your thoughts. I have such anger over this man and his cronies that all I can do is express my thought in four letter words.

I have been working for and giving money to Mr. Obama since March of 07. As giddy as I am at times I remember that we all must work to ensure those promises are kept. Election Day is just the beginning. First we must turn the rascals out with a clean sweep and then get to work undoing the damage they have done. It won't be easy and it won't be overnight, but we must give our support and encouragement to our elected officials, and make sure they follow through.
