While virtue is its own reward, voting has some benefits too: both Krispy Kreme and Ben & Jerry's are offering free tasty delights to celebrate Election Day. Says a Krispy Kreme rep:

We can't guarantee that your candidate of preference will win on November 4, but we can guarantee that your right to voice your choice will be rewarded with a patriotic doughnut that will remind you just how tasty freedom really is. Krispy Kreme encourages everyone to take part in this historical election and vote.

To get the free star shaped doughnut, just show up at your local Krispy Kreme with your I Voted sticker.

And while the doughnut is only available to those who have voted, Ben & Jerry's is offering a free ice cream scoop to everyone on November 4, from 5 to 8 pm. Walt Freese, Chief Euphoria Officer of the Vermont based ice-cream maker explained:

Originally, we planned to give free scoops away just to those who voted. We found out afterwards that certain laws may not allow it. So instead we’re celebrating our election with a national party. We have been asking people to be politically active for a long time. Even though we’re giving scoops away to everyone, regardless of whether they vote or not, we hope they still take part in their civic duty.

I adore both Krispy Kreme doughnuts and Ben & Jerry's ice cream. Luckily for my blood sugar levels, neither has a shop in the town I live in. But I do appreciate the gesture, and so will millions of Americans who do have easy access to their shops.
