Hmmmm, perhaps gun control isn't such a bad idea after all.

A Sarah Palin supporter pulled a loaded handgun while leaving a campaign rally in Colorado on Monday! The armed Palin supporter reported waved the gun at another driver after the two got into a dispute while attempting to leave the event:

Heated words between drivers leaving Sarah Palin's rally Monday allegedly escalated with one man brandishing a loaded handgun.

Jack B. Cheskaty, 62, of Grand Junction, said he pulled a handgun because "he wanted to be ready for anything" in what started as a verbal spat between drivers in bumper-to-bumper traffic leaving Lincoln Park around 8 p.m. Monday, according to an arrest affidavit.

Cheskaty and three family members were riding in a Chrysler, moving slowly in a line a traffic. A man behind the wheel of a Kia SUV attempted to inch in front of Cheskaty's Chrysler, the affidavit said. [Glenwood Springs Post-Independent]

Let's Not Get All Excited...

The law should work just fine, here. What he did is called brandishing, and he will quite possibly end up being prosecuted for it.

If everyone gets all excited about this one incident and starts screaming for gun control, you simply play into the fears of all the law-abiding gun owners out there that are already squeamish enough about supporting progressive candidates. So just cut it out.

Gun control issues aside, how did someone get into the rally with a loaded firearm? All four major candidates have Secret Service portection, right? This guy wouldn't have gotten within a mile of Bush. . .

While I personally don't see the need of a hand gun,

I don't think the issue here is about guns as much as it is the mentality of many Palin supporters. I am sure there are thousands of gun owners out there many of whom support Sarah, that never have done anything that stupid, and never would. But judging by what I have read of goings on at her rallies, I think she panders to the shoot-um-up lunatic fringe.

Be careful, Sarah Palin, because John McCain tolerates violence against women and children.

...one could not get in to the rally if one was wearing a pro-Obama t-shirt.

Definitely a reflection on the types of people who are attracted to Palin rallies. I've read several articles recently that report of the number of men showing up at these rallies, that they outnumber the women in great quantities, painting the letters "Maverick" on their naked chests and other high school age acts. So much for the theory that Palin on the ticket would attract women, it's the sex-starved "think with the other head" males who are lapping up the Palin soup. Here's one take on that phenom:

"She's a former beauty pageant contestant and a real honey, too," one bedazzled pundit wrote. Another couldn't help noting that she was "exceptionally pretty." A (male) Newsweek writer described her as "a mix between Annie Oakley and Joan of Arc." It didn't matter that she'd only been governor for a few months. She was a moose-hunting fertility goddess! It was these men who talked her up and up, and got her on the list, even though she didn't have the résumé. By the time Mr. McCain picked her for vice-president, he'd spent less than three hours in her company. But hey! Rush Limbaugh had called her "a babe." ("Sarah Palin, Femme Fatale," Globe and Mail, Oct.23, 2008)

So, these are the people we want leading America into the future? No no no! You can keep your guns, but please leave them and your bravado at home and let the rest of us try to restore some decency to our government, civility to the American people, and credibility to our standing in the world's eyes. We look like bunch of freaking yahoos and mental deficiants. Palin doesn't speak for me! Nor does Mr.Wiatt Erp from Colorado or Scary Robo-Call McCain! I cannot condone the Road Ragers and war mongers running the universe or the under-qualified and homophobic Palin getting anywhere near the White house. Lord help us all.
