Long ago (think Nixon Southern strategy days) there was a fiendishly clever way to rob voters of their votes. It involved organizing a "voter registration drive" usually in a poor or minority areas. The drive's promoters would collect voter registration applications from the citizens in that area and assure them that the drive's organizers would see that they were properly filed with the correct Board of Elections.

Instead, they would throw them down some sewer.

The would be voter would show up on Election Day to find out that his name was not in the book and he was not eligible to vote. So, although the voter could later apply to vote, for THAT cycle at least, the voter's vote had been stolen from him.

This led to rules that require, sometimes upon pain of criminal prosecution, voter registration drives to turn in every single application it collects, even if it has a good faith reason to believe the application is defective--such as an application by Mickey Mouse.

Now you know why ACORN is turning in funky applications, because it is required to do so--but I digress.

Once again, persons of ill will have found a way to rob voters of their registrations. This time, it involves falsely registering people to the Republican party without their knowledge or consent.

Dozens of newly minted Republican voters say they were duped into joining the party by a GOP contractor with a trail of fraud complaints stretching across the country.

Voters contacted by The Times said they were tricked into switching parties while signing what they believed were petitions for tougher penalties against child molesters. Some said they were told that they had to become Republicans to sign the petition, contrary to California initiative law. Others had no idea their registration was being changed.

Why would they do that you ask?

The firm, which a Republican Party spokesman said is paid $7 to $12 for each registration it secures, has denied any wrongdoing and says it has never been charged with a crime.

The 70,000 voters YPM has registered for the Republican Party this year will help combat the public perception that it is struggling amid Democratic gains nationally, give a boost to fundraising efforts and bolster member support for party leaders, political strategists from both parties say.

Here's the scoop, enthusiasm for the Obama candidacy has caused overwhelming numbers of new Dems to register. My own beloved Nassau County, Long Island went from red to blue a week or so ago for the first time in a generation. The GOP has nothing to answer that, except cheating.

Why am I not surprised?

What does it matter if you are registered as a Republican .Just as long as vote for whichever party you favor . In NY the only problem would be in voting in the Primaries

Met One In Flint MI- Wheres a Union 'Enforcer' When you Need One!

I have been volunteering doing voter Reg for the Obama Campaign since June. About a month ago while in Flint, I ran into Guy doing "Voter Registation" when asked who he was with, he avoided answering and redirected the conversationas to whehter or not I was Registered....Since I had Introduced myself as a Obama volunteer I laughed and said 'Of course'. He asked if I was sure, I said Yes I just voted in the Primary. He suggested I register again just to be sure- I told Him 'NO' .
So I know for sure he was Not with Obama's campaign and since I'd worked with ACORN before and Knew they always said who they were working for....I had a very unsettling feeling as I walked away from this Guy. My only thoght was he was doing "Dead End" Reg's or Worse getting names to 'purge'.
Thanks for th eHistorical confirmation, apparently my Instincts or intution are working Quite Well.
PSA should be put out During Election time to inform the public what kind of BS they may get screwed by.
If MI had an Uncorrupt Sec of State or Even an AG, I'd write a letter suggesting this...However Both have already Proved they have Politicized their office.
Land rigged the Democrat Ballots (after Levin Highjacked it to begin with- asshole)
And the AG has Done nothing in regards to Macomb Co's REPUG Chairs Blatant attemtp at Voer Suppression (In foreclosure Can't vote-scam) Frnakly All three should be facing Election Fraud Charges (which should be considered a HIGH CRIME- since it is the most basic thing our Country was founded on)
The Union has been down & Out for a few decades here- May not be as good as We once was, but we are As good Once as We ever Were.
Beware Republicans in MI, The Union and all their Supporters have been Waiting for a good Brawl. It's not that the Unions Just Support Obama...It's that they have come out in Force AGAINST McCain, Don't Miss that very Important FACT, MI REPUGNANTS.We'll Throw you Out of Office and Then Throw your asses in Prison... if your Lucky.
Having Worked for the Roland McMasters, I heard about the 'Glory Days' and Plenty of 'Glory Stories'...No Not about where 'Jimmy' is..But plenty about his time as Union Pres and 'Mac' as his Enforcer. At 85 he Still had Hams for hands, that could easily crush a cantalope and a Look that could stop you Dead in your tracks. Nicest Son Of a Bitch You'd ever meet..except in a Dark alley.
The Union may have been Down for the last 4 decades,But they Ain't Dead.Union Orgnaizing courses through our MI Blood.

Cave Adsum.

With town like Hempstead and Hicksville it's about time Nassau county went democratic.
Does that mean someone else other than Peter King will represent Nassau county? Is he up for re-election, seriously how long has that man been in congress?

If you have any doubt of your status as a registered voter, call and verify that you ARE INDEED registered. You can find out online as well. I checked several times since January when our primaries were held. Also, check your voter registration card and make sure you use the exact form or spelling as is on that card. For instance, if your name on the card is James, don't use Jim. If you've moved but haven't got the sticker for you driver's license, go get it. It's free and they will put it on at the DMV. We CAN beat these GOP criminals. But we have to be diligent.
