Bill Kristol Returns Fire at McCain Campaign on Fox News

Posted by Faiz Shakir, Think Progress at 6:35 AM on October 14, 2008.

Harsh words for the right-wing candidate from a right-wing pundit. This seems to be happening a lot these days.

Right-wing pundit Bill Kristol was attacked yesterday by the McCain campaign after declaring that John McCain is waging a "pathetic campaign" and should "fire" his staff. Spokesperson Nancy Pfotenhauer said Kristol had "bought into the Obama campaign's party line," while Tucker Bounds said, "I know Bill Kristol is an intelligent guy, I just don't think what he had to say was very intelligent." On Fox News, Kristol fired back:

Is John McCain the best messenger for his campaign? Why isn't he on this show? Why do we have Tucker Bounds and a bunch of nice young kids who are spokesmen out there spinning implausibly on behalf of the McCain campaign? McCain is better than his campaign.

Watch it:

Later in the interview, Kristol said if McCain fired his staff, it would "send the same signal Bush sent when he replaced Rumsfeld ... and won the war."

McCain is BETTER THAN HIS CAMPAIGN???

No, he is not--McCain has demonstrated that he would lie, steal, cheat, and kill if it would make him President. He would have been better off if he had not campaigned at all--hecould have preserved his "image" as a "straight talk" guy who wants only to save his country--hahahaha

long time cheerleader for the Bush Doctrine and blind supporter of all things GOP admits, publicly that McCain's efforts are a disaster all the bottom feeders around the campaign HAVE to go into attack mode.

Kristol was arguably the biggest gun in the GOP Op-Ed offensive line, if he has gone from total support to abject despair who is left to put any positive spin on the McCain/Palin ticket?

wow - I had no idea.

But Bill Kristol said it out loud so it must be true. Call Bush - he needs some good news right about now.

If we have won the WAR why are our troops still dying in Iraq?

I guess it gets pretty bad when the campaign can't keep its lies straight. With the recent uproars, it becomes difficult to 'tell 'em what they want to hear'. Especially when the phony campaign focus changes twice a week.

Keeping that phony message on track is tougher than it looks.

deception have finally caught up with them. You can only lie your way through life for so long, because eventually the sleeping giant will wake up. I am so proud of the young generation in America today for their intelligence as to who is by far the best hope for this country. I am from the baby boomer generation, and I believe my generation is to blame for our ineptness in letting the repugs villify us as something evil, and letting them get away with it for so long. When in fact it is they who are the evil ones. Now we have to make sure that never again will we let a Rovian Master spin his art of deception web.

Why we even care what Bill Kristol and Bill Bennett have to say is beyond belief. This is simply to stoke the illusion that McCain has a prayer ... but the faux conservative and believer is just another one in a long line of "sinners" who have sold their soul to get elected. Bring on the next Bush ... and yet, buyers beware, look where this Bush is after 8 years. Pathetic bunch laughing all the way to the bank ... and pathetic us buying their crap !!!

When people start spouting crap like the McCain campaign is doing, everyone, and even his own supporters are criticizing, somewhere some idiot, whose pent up emotions are going to be released and someone wil get hurt. I pray something like that will never happen again, but a lot of senseless hate, Rush Limbaugh and others, is being pushed out there. Seeing in the news, peoples yards, political signs being vandalized ! Wonder what else is happening that is not being reported?
Example: Oklahoma City bombing fiasco

With Friends Like Kristol, America Needs No Enemies

I clicked on this video in a weak moment—I admit it. I had told myself it might be fun identifying the most stupid comment William Kristol would make. I was not disappointed.

There it was, right at the end. Referring to the Iraq war, Kristol declared that Bush “took command, overruled the generals, and won the war.” Truly incredible. His comment made me laugh and took my breath away at the same time.

One can understand Fox giving this dangerous warmongering nitwit a voice. But why does Kristol have access to so many of America’s other biggest soapboxes? Why does the New York Times give him such precious op-ed space?

William Kristol is a key Neocon Generalissimo in the ongoing GOP War on Iraq and America. He got everything wrong on Iraq, and -- in the reincarnation of George W. Bush in John McCain -- he advocates more of the same.

Kristol is cofounder of The Project for the New American Century (PNAC), which years before 9/11 advocated the invasion and occupation of Iraq.

This leading neocon warmonger is the editor of "The Weekly Standard" and coauthored its infamous November 17, 1997, cover story entitled, "Saddam Must Go." He is in the pocket of Rupert Murdoch, who funded and started "The Weekly Standard" in 1995.

Australian-born Murdoch in turn is Exhibit A for the case that America needs better border security.

If you are a warmonger lusting to invade a nation that had zero to do with 9/11 it helps to have a knuckle dragger like Rupert Murdoch on your side. During the run up to Bush's War on Iraq, all 175 Murdoch-controlled newspapers worldwide supported the war in editorials.

Rupert is the principal shareholder, chairman and managing director of News Corporation, which owns Fox News, better known as Faux News. Kristol, of course, is a frequent guest on Fox News.

"The Economist" reported in 1999 that Murdoch's British holding company had paid no net corporate tax over the previous 11 years even though it had made $2.1 billion in profits over that period. "The Economist" further noted that Murdoch's entity would normally have been expected to pay $350 million in corporate taxes during that period.

With friends like Murdoch and Kristol, America needs no enemies.

This and much more is discussed in, "The Bush League of Nations: The Coalition of the Unwilling, the Bullied and the Bribed – the GOP’s War on Iraq and America," by James A. Swanson (2008, CreateSpace Publishing, 448 pages).

As a gift to patriots everywhere, the entire book can be downloaded for FREE at www.bushleagueofnations.com. Please pass along the good news.

I ask for nothing in return, except that you consider using my book to help kick out America’s worst political party ever.
