Rep. Virgil Goode (R-VA) is out with a new ad that depicts his opponent, Tom Perriello, with a swarthy complexion, using a shadowy, grainy image of Perriello with a beard. As Open Left notes, the ad hints that Perriello’s “skin is dark, he’s bearded, and he’s a liberal who loves amnesty for illegals and gay marriage.” Watch the ad, below which is a picture of Perriello:

Goode sparked controversy in 2006 with his anti-Muslim rhetoric.

When Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) was elected to Congress, Goode wrote to his constituents: “If American citizens don’t wake up and adopt the Virgil Goode position on immigration, there will likely be many more Muslims elected to office and demanding the use of the Koran.”

Digg!

Ah, Just Like The Goode Old Days

I was trying to remember where I heard the name Virgil Goode after I first saw the name in the article.
Thanks for reminding me about this bigot. I am a little surprised he wasn't ousted in 2006. The Goode people (not good people) of Virginia are sure to keep him in office, I'm sure.

In elections all over the country, unflattering images are being used against...

...candidates' opponents.

Politicians have been negatively portraying their opponents since Grecian times, and I honestly see no reason why the Obiden cheerleaders shouldn't continue to run with the tired, old images of Johnny Mc alongside the bumbling, blank stares and clueless snaps of GWB when they start talking about four more years of stuck on stupid.

It's shame that politicians aren't nicer to each other, but that's reality that we've settled on in this country--there are only two major parties, and there are only "winners" and "losers", the good of the country be damned.

Considering Rep. Goode's PAST...

his stated anti-Muslim, anti-immigrant beliefs, he really should be ashamed of himself.

This is NOT "politics as usual." This is race-and-hate-baiting DISGUISED as normal, regular politics. It's shameful and disgusting.

Take on an opponent based on their policies, their votes, their beliefs, their platform... that's all OK. But to sink so low as to digitally alter an image of your opponent as something "other than AMERICAN" (wink, wink, nod, nod) smacks of the worst kind of misleading advertising, and a prime example of what Karl Rove - Republic Party politics have contributed to the political discourse of this country.

This should embarrass any Virginian who may have been even THINKING about voting for that racist pig, Virgil Goode.

So very many, so difficult to decide in the Old Dominion

The Commonwealth of Virginia is filled with pathetic Dupes cheering the Plutocracy and sending to the House of Representatives some of the most mentally shallow of all the 435 members of the chamber. It is difficult to decide who among them is the worst. A few are notable, however. The latest one showing his mediocrity is Cantor, who came out with the utterly stupid explanation that Pulosi's remarks before the vote were so partisan that he and his eleven clones decided to vote against the bill. (Read: Decided wilfully to reject Bush and send the economy over a cliff in a juvenile snit. After his emotional plea to the Republicans before the vote, Leader John Boehner, not the brightest around himself, decided to join Cantor in his
incredibly stupid comments after the vote).

it will be remembered that Cantor was reported by the plutocrats as an "up and comer" and was said to be on McBush's short list of potential nominees for vice president. Now that the vacuous Palin is the nominee, it is not surprising that Cantor was on the list.

The next beauty is Virgil Goode, a distinct embarassment to the House. His being sent to the House regularly attests to the lack of good judgment and common sense rampant among his constituents.

Comprehending hatred in this country...

... there's always been someone somewhere to hate!

the largest human bloodbath of the 19th century was fought over it...
the largest human death toll in known times happened in the 20th century because of it!
and there is still people with enough hate in them to see it last a few more times
before we finally get it!

call it what you want...
racism, nationalism, communism ...republicanism...
they all seem to end in a "ISM" are politically motivated and is about the "hatred" of something,
its the glue that's become the Raison d'être!

time to recognize it for what it is... hate!
and long past time to legislate an end to it... hate!
