Last night on his CNN Headline News show, right-wing pundit Glenn Beck hosted global warming skeptic Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK). Beck allowed Inhofe to rant about how — with “all the liberals” running the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works — he was forced to sit through hearings on “that nice white fuzzy polar bear.”

Inhofe argued that the polar bear population isn’t endangered. “[I]f anything, it’s an overpopulation problem,” said Inhofe. Beck then jumped in and claimed that, in fact, the extinction of polar bears may be a good thing:

They eat people! For the love of Pete, they’re big, angry bears. They eat people. Not that I say we go out and kill all of them, but I mean, it doesn’t seem to be a problem here. Senator, I can’t take the — I can’t take the lies anymore.

There is currently an estimated 20,000-25,000 polar bears worldwide who are threatened with “losing their habitat and becoming extinct over the next 50 years” because of global warming and melting sea ice. The U.S. Geological Survey predicts that without action, “11 of the 19 subpopulations will be extinct by the middle of this century, with an additional three subpopulations vanishing shortly thereafter.”

On Wednesday, Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne skipped a Senate hearing on listing the polar bear as a threatened species. His agency missed a Jan. 9 deadline to decide on classifying the polar bear, in violation of the Endangered Species Act, according to Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA).

Perhaps if little furry bunnies — which do not eat people — were endangered, Beck would want to save them.

Transcript:

BECK: But while pictures like this may say a thousand words, I only actually need actually 10 words to tell you the truth. The polar bear population is up over 300 percent since 1972.
So, why, may I ask, are we holding Senate committee hearings to question whether or not to add the animal to the endangered species list if they’re reproducing faster than human beings right now? Senator James Inhofe is the senator from Oklahoma, ranking Republican on that committee.
It’s a lonely, lonely place for you right now.
INHOFE: That committee is lonely. We’ve got Hillary and we’ve got all the liberals on that side and Barbara Boxer clearly controls the votes in there. So we had yesterday a hearing on that nice white fuzzy polar bear.
BECK: Now, Senator, this is a projection, a projection that someday they’ll start to go down in population. Today, the increase is 400 percent. Are we going to put them on the endangered species list?
INHOFE: Well, you know, they may go on. We can’t really control that right now. But the idea that they’d be trying to do it, I think you said it right except you’re a little bit conservative.

Since 1950, we have quadrupled the number of polar bears. The populations have gone up from the range of 5,000 to 10,000 to 20,000 to 25,000. So if anything, it’s an overpopulation problem.
But you know what they’re trying to do, Glenn. How many times have I been on your show on the global warming Al Gore stuff? What they want to do is do what they can’t do legislatively and cause the Fish and Wildlife Service to say, anywhere that you’re using — having emissions of carbon dioxide, you’re going to have to stop doing it because that’s going to make its way up to the polar cap and it’s going to kill all the bears.
I mean, you can be on my patio in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with your outdoor cooker and have Fish and Wildlife say, well, you can’t do that because you might kill the polar bears. And polar bears are so pretty to look at.
BECK: They eat people! For the love of Pete, they’re big, angry bears. They eat people. Not that I say we go out and kill all of them, but I mean, it doesn’t seem to be a problem here. Senator, I can’t take the — I can’t take the lies anymore.

Glenn Beck ought to be outed as only a vendor of fake news stories. Otherwise, he is simply telling lies to Americans, for fun and gain.

are at it again! How dare we actually care about the fate of other creatures on this planet! People like Glenn Beck absolutely disgust me. What a douche! It's just oh so sad that these ignoramuses have absolutely no understanding of how ecology works. I mean, who cares if a whole ecosystem on the other side of the world collapses, as long as they can still perpetuate their own greedy wasteful consumption.

As E.O. Wilson once said:
"If all mankind were to disappear, the world would regenerate back to the rich state of equilibrium that existed ten thousand years ago. If insects were to vanish, the environment would collapse into chaos."

I saw that segment and Beck truly was over the top, especially, having that robosimp Inhofe there to back him up.'

In defense of Glenn, does he deserve any?, at the end of the segment he said something like ... oooooh, they are sooo cute, take my money and save them.

Beck is a showman, and easily ignored ... I watch occasionally for a laugh.

I know one species I wouldn't walk across the street to spit on if it was on fire. Right wing pundits. As a matter of fact I might even find out how to make their demise come sooner. What a putz. This guy makes my skin crawl.

Is Glenn Beck scared of the big, angry Polar bears?

I guess a really hungry Polar bear might want to eat panty-waisted Glenn Beck. What say we send him up to the Arctic to find out? If Beck runs from them, he might even end up a Polar bear happy meal. Bring the video cameras! Lets get it on YouTube... (LOL!)

my wife and i went to sports bar for dinner and a treat for me to watch MLS soccer since we dont have cable. The dominant sound was an inane ncaa show/competition featuring slam dunks and 3 point shots. I was trying to watch a game that was long over 4-0 and 3/4 over. Glenn Beck was also playing on with teleprompter. My wifes comment was "That if this is what CNN is like now, I am glad we dont have cable". This was our first exposure to a Glenn Beck show and having seen and heard the clip I am glad I have missed all his previous shows and will miss all his future shows if I can.

lies anymore. I suppose, like us veterans of the war on terror who boycotted Wal-Mart, the polar bears are terrorists too, right?

Glenn!! Really now! Polar Bears eat people? How many f'in people do you know that live on the ice flows in the extreme north Glenn. There are a few aren't there? And what do they do. HUNT Polar bears for food......... So I think your "DUHHH well you know BooBoo, people look like picinic baskets to polar bears" statement, speaks volumes to your unbridled stupidity!

On top of that Glenn there is the fact that Alaska is the only peice of land, up north, that is a United States possesion. 90% of the north is shared amongst the rest of the world. And you think you get the last say on the animals and welfare of the north. And you want me to believe that your country has our best interests at heart huh?

There should be laws against people like Glenn, who willfully promote the image of a nation of fools and idiots. Lucky for you folks, in the US, most of the world is a little smarter than Glenn.

Guys you should be kind to Beck as you know he has a massive drinking problem and brings his damaged brain to the camera. This show is just another example of how hard up the Media is for talented real professional Journalist like Jack Anderson and Drew Pearson. Instead they pay this $##$%% to have a time slot, sad performance for CNN to even tolerate such crap, but it sells to the @#^^ ## segment of the population and that is the bottom line again!

Isn't that just like Glenn...nothing intelligent to say but can't resist flapping his lips anyway! His last line, "I can't take the lies anymore" is a cry for help, he's tired of being a candy-ass just waiting for an artery to burst...let's take up a collection:)

Rush Limbaugh on the endangered spotted owl:

Former welfare recipient and drug addict Rush Limbaugh has a similar worldview:

"If the owl can’t adapt to the superiority of humans, screw it. If a spotted owl can’t adapt, does the earth really need that particular species so much that hardship to human beings is worth enduring in the process of saving it? Thousands of species that roamed the earth are now extinct.
Of course, we do care about owls. Why isn’t it possible for both of us to coexist in harmony? There’s no reason to put the timber business out of commission just because of 2,200 pairs of one kind of owl [at the expense of] 30,000 jobs. That’s the wrong set of priorities."

Inhofe is an idiot

"I mean, you can be on my patio in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with your outdoor cooker and have Fish and Wildlife say, well, you can’t do that because you might kill the polar bears. And polar bears are so pretty to look at." - Inhofe from the Beck interview

How did Inhofe get the way he is? Answers are in this article from the Oklahoma Gazette, 2/6/2008: The Making of a Mountain:

"One day he (Inhofe) walked into the office and said, 'I just rode up the elevator with Barney Frank (an openly gay congressman). And I told him that I've never met a real queer before. I hope I didn't catch AIDS.'"

--Mike Miller,
who worked for Inhofe
in the early Nineties.
