Was Montel Williams Kicked Off the Air for Criticizing Fox News? [VIDEO]

Posted by Manila Ryce, The Largest Minority at 3:49 PM on February 2, 2008.

Montel's 17-year-old show was canceled three days after he took Fox to task for overlooking troop casualties in Iraq. Coincidence? I think not.

After 17 years on the air, Montel Williams was canceled for speaking out against Fox's choice of news coverage. When asked his opinion of Heath Ledger's death, Williams turned the tables and asked why Fox, or any corporate media station for that matter, is not giving as much time to the 28 soldiers who died in January. Montel has 22 years of military service under his belt. If any television host is entitled to comment on casualties of war, it's him.

The sphincters of the hosts were clearly tightening, and Montel consequently did not return after the commercial break for a second segment. Then, just 4 days after he insulted Fox News by insisting that they support the troops and give them more coverage, a number of stations owned by Fox decided against renewing his show for another year. It was a rather heavy-handed punishment even Sylvia Brown didn't see coming, but was done to send a clear message. Send one of your own to Fox here.

h/t to Robert Ruszkowski, Director of Social Media/Virtual Outreach for the Kucinich Campaign, for the video.

so close montel, yet still so far....
it's kinda sad, and i respect his concern, but to refer to 28 people dieing in Iraq is just so insular.
it's a start, it's better than what he is battling, but until those dead men women and children or Iraqi nationality show up even as a blip on the nose of media hegemony, nuthin is gonna change.

I say good riddance to Montel. The man has no integrity.

I guess Sylvia Browne will now have to find another media venue to prey on the grieving.

against criminal madness that will surely be carried on by tinsel corporate robots McCaine, Hillary and Obama (etc).

Until several million others stand, the Wall Street / Military / MSM sharks that bleed this nation into the ground for their own pleasure will get their way.

Fat chance. Hm?

someone called Faux News on their hypocrisy. We've focused so much on BritBrit, Lindsey Lohan, Heath Ledger...ad infinitum...that we have failed our troops by ignoring them. Shame on us. And shame on Fox News.

The Corner Stone of Fascism.
Is control of the Media.
Through that vehicle they exercise
Brutal demonic absolute control.
Brainwashing, Programming and Conditioning
From Birth to Grave.

They were never Honest, Pure or Brave.
Just easily fooled or heavily paid.
Aristocrats, Mercenaries and Prostitutes!
The worst money can buy.

One by one
The Rats are leaving the floundering ship.
Mission Admonished!
Truth be known.
Accountability will begin.
Another Zio-Nazi runs for cover,
While the organ Grinder grinds on.
Pied Piping a slightly different tune.
A hypnotic lullaby.
Pulling everybody back to sleep.

The Cor'pirate' system that spawned these evil shills.
Rides to their rescue
Singing Hi Ho Silver!
And away.
And away goes:
Your Freedom, Wealth and Liberty.
Down the Drain.
Replaced by a play.
Written for one.
One Corpirate Nation
World Domination

Read it and weep.
A lot happens while you sleep.
Wake UP!
Wake Up!
Please.
The Game is a foot.

Wiliams made a very good point. About 20? From a news reporter that's unacceptable. "feeding the beast" not good either. Iraq is the news. It should be reported as such. Entertainment is something else. None of the three made a good case for avoiding the Iraq matter. It's about ratings. Williams probably didn't change the world with his remarks but at least he made them. Thanks, ANNA

Time to turn off the television

DO NOT watch Fox, CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, MSNBC, HN and others. DO NOT watch the Superbowl. Protest Iraq at the Superbowl. Protest the Patriot Act at the Superbowl. Do not buy products from the advertisers of the MSM's. ACT.

SUPPORT Independent, UNEMBEDDED journalism and media.

Demand your cable company have an option to package only PBS, CSPAN and then also demand channels so that a 12 y/o can watch skateboarding videos. (Which are Far healthier than blood and gore on every other station)

If you are watching the MSM then YOU are part of the problem. Change occurs from the ground up. Turn off the warmongerers. Turn them OFF.

I noticed Montel's video came from the Kucinich group....RIGHT ON KUCINICH!

We as human beings all want to be happy and we all share the same sky and ocians. Why is it that Montal would only fix on American losses
He is as controled be the giant as most
and he might be opening a door for a little enlightenment but misses the point

Why should anyone be surprised at this? It is just more of the overwhelming proof of the effectiveness of the neoconic, quasi-fascist organizations actually controlling the main line media in this Country. All but the vacuous in this country will continue to reject the "librul media" myth fostered by those same organizations who abhor dissent and whose real concern is the presence of the alternet, independent press that is barely able to survive the continuing attacks, aided and abetted by the simple-minded in the Country who cheer against themselves and their own interests.

The strangle hold of corporate media

As long as the big corporations control what is said on the media, we will not hear the truth or what is important on the news. We are being bombarded by stories of celebrity woes and not questioning the real news.
Faux News is not news, but propaganda meant to opiate the masses from reality while those corporations continue to bilk us of our hard earned money.
The answer? Educate yourselves to what is really happening. Boycott the likes of WalMart and Exxon-Mobile. Hit them where they will be hurt the most. In the profits.

Good night and good luck...

As a Ron Paul supporter, we have been fighting the media blackout since early in the election process. The folks who own the media, also own the military-industrial complex, and also own the medical-industrial complex, and also own the Federal Reserve banking system, and they benefit financially from poor health and perpetual war. They cannot allow the message of freedom to ring out to our fellow concerned citizens. They do not want the war to end, and the reality is, not one of the other candidates besides Ron Paul, on both sides of the aisle, will stop these wars! Most people do not even know he is still in the race, as he is removed from all major newspaper print stories and websites. It is not just Fox, it is all MSM. The only man who is fighting for us, for "we the people," is being ostracized because of money and potential loss of the power they hold over us - we the people who make this country work!

Montel Williams has spoken many truths on his show, mixed in between a few shows which were attempts at gaining ratings. His talk about our brave solders' deaths was not good for profits, not good for business. He is a real man, and I can only hope he rebounds from this, and starts his OWN network. The people of this country are being brainwashed by the major media, and they don't even know it. Before you go and vote, do yourself and your country a favor, and ask yourself why your candidate is getting the free media circus coverage? Those who are not getting coverage are telling the truth which we are not supposed to hear. Follow the money.... Check out Ron Paul first, and see how he has ALWAYS voted for us! Wake up, America!

Who's Sylvia Brown???

I never watch Montiel, although I've seen him in an occassional episode on TV playing some military character and I do know who he is; I never watch Fox News either, but I can't say I'm surprised by their censorship ("We'll be right back to talk about Montiel's new book...": Was there any mention or explanation as to why he wasn't around like they announced after the commercial break?), and the stations dropping his show like that... could be ratings are low, I don't know, but it sure is suspicious in the extreme, to say the least. But my big question is:

Who the **** is Sylvia Brown???!!

He had people on speaking against the war. He has done this several times and was planning to do more. I never watch his show unless he has something to say of importance. Does any one remember Phil Donahue? Same thing. He spoke out against the war before it started and he was "disappeared". Montel may have done silly shows, but he sometimes got something out that was important. Nice trick if you can do it on fox. I just hope he will continue to speak out.

If we remove ourselves from the knowledge of what MSM is teaching, then we lose the battle.

We must continue to know what they are preaching in order to counter act the latest build-up to their next devious plan/s.

Seeing the build-up through the propaganda of Faux News or CNN gives one the means to understand how those who feast on this medium are as mal informed as they are and can become better instructed on how to become media saavy.
