In a revealing interview with Bill Moyers, Keith Olbermann talks about the genesis of his Countdown special comments, how he almost quit his current show in 2003 when MSNBC tried to force him to air and commentary by Mike Savage and also how he has transferred his considerable skills as a sports journalist to covering the world of politics. Part of the trick for Keith was maintaining the same sense of skepticism he did about the star athletes he covered when covering politicians in Washington. Check out the video to your right for this meeting of two progressive media titans.

Keith Olbermann, Courage in Uncommon Places

This cable guy is a gem in the wilderness of wussy lie massagers. He has found the secret of success and it is called TRUTH. Would that his choice to comment were less organic and more twice-weekly scheduled. He is a person to be defended and protected. He is nailing the Cheney-Bush perfidious thuggery to the wall and slathering these slimy slugs with runny pies of derision.

Long Live Olbermann!

How do you thank someone...

who has taken the blinders off many of those who were still falling for the Bush&Co psyops operation which was in full swing long before 9/11?
How do you thank someone who has so eloquently given voice to those who were slandered for their own skepticism?
How do you thank someone who, when it was possibly very dangerous to publicly say the emperor was naked and continues to expose the political pornography that is the Bush Admin?
History will have the honor of figuring out how to thank courageous and patriotic men like Keith Olbermann.
In the very least, there should be a national journalism and art scholarshp fund named "The Paul Revere" and in Mr. Olbermann's honor.
Thank you Mr. Moyer for sharing his heart, his love of our nation and his genious with your audience.

Getting Rid of the Cowboys

Olbermann makes it clear here that his stridency is due to the malevolence of the Bush government. He's made himself into a watchdog for decency, devoid of ideology, if nothing else. Up to now only comedians have dared take on the role. It makes him the most valuable addition to the political dialogue in this country to come along in a long time. If he is able to survive, and maintain his skepticism I don't think he can help but bring more intelligent voters back to the polls so the cowboys and crooks can be sent back to their ranches.

Who says all our contemporary American heroes are to be found on the literal fields of battle? Thank God for such great uncompromisingly patriotic heroes as Bill Moyers and Keith Olbermann. They are both the very best of the very best. May their kind live on and multiply!

Olbermann & Moyer

What a delight to see Bill Moyer show us that Keith's passion is genuine, he's as true to himself both on & off the cult of personality hot seat.

Yes, I too am amazed that his comments are so deeply researched and scathing. It takes nerve and conviction to call for the impeachment of Bush/Cheney when most of Congress doesn't have the guts to do it & those who do are made invisible by their peers and the media.

Another reason I don't miss an Olbermann show is his fine writing. He can take history, weave it into the present with relevance and make it understandable in less than ten minutes. Wow, what respect he has for TV viewers' intelligence.

However I do find the relentless coverage of the Hollywood bad girls mean, meaningless and often sexist. Some of the comics and that horrid radio show host who follows American Idol are just plain awful, reaching for humor not in dark and unexpected places but in the toilet humor of "Beavis & Buthead (sp????)." Don't his producers know that crap is so old you can hardly find it even on Comedy Central? Thank goodness it's at the end of the show & and I can turn it off without missing some of the really funny, seriously revealing and well-written segments.

I admit that I was skeptical when Olbermann began his show on MSNBC. I remembered him as the wise cracking, sarcastic partner of the equally wise cracking, sarcastic Dan Patrick on ESPN's Sportscenter when that show really took off. Although I seldom see Countdown due to not having cable, the clips I see occasionally on Alternet and through other sources have been impressive. It still amazes me how people are so awestruck by journalists like Olbermann, Moyers, Koppel who simply cut through the BS and speak their minds. It is even more amazing that there are not more who follow their lead. Our conservative friends would point to their own heroes such as Limbaugh, Coulter and Hannity, I suppose.

Because of freedom fighters like Moyers and Olbermann I keep up the fight on my end as well. Thanks to both of them!

Keith Olbermann's show "Countdown" should be required watching for all High School Civic's classes. It's refreshing to see a journalist stand up for whats right in this country. This man does his homework and presents the material in an intelligent and often hilarious way. Most of the people he interviews during the show are not typical television pundits, but are usually highly respected journalists or very qualified professionals directly related to the issue he is talking about. I'd love to see Keith in a debate with the likes of Bill O Reilly or Rush Limbaugh, he'd simply tear them up!!! I love watching an intelligent mind at work!!

What a pity I am only able to see from time to time comments from Keith Olberman when finding comments in AlterNet Peek Newsletter?.
I am in Spain, and here he is unknown, a great shame, as he is the best reporter to open the eyes of the public from all the falsehoods the Bush administration is doling to the world as well as the american people.
If any one know how I could watch his reports I would be very grateful, please let me know at aussy2@gmail.com.
Thanks
Gerard from Spain

I've been watching him for a long time.
I visit a few other forums online and, I post things about him whenever possible.
You cannot believe the petty anger, hate and anti-American which is spewed from the filthy mouths of the wingutted neogoons when I post womething like this.
I'm a Nam vet and have been told that I'm a traitor, a liar about being in the service and all sorts of ignorant, childish and hateful invectives.
K.O. is absolutely correct about how cheney & its pupper have been so harmfully divisive to our country.
I'll be 69 in Jan.
I'vre been there/done that & seen it.
If it would be possible, I would actually like to grab one of those imbecilic online insulter and show them what I learned in Nam to stay alive.

Another legitimacy concerning K.O. is that he takes to task the dems who are lying, cheating and stealing from us as well as the filthy gop.
He IS balanced about these things whereas fixed noise is nothing but lowlife lying haters of all that is good for America.
Very ^ 5's to you, Keith!!

Interesting article states just that. Is that cynical?

I'm not sure, but it is surely worth thinking about. To what extent does a Keith Olbermann make a difference? (I'm a fan and very glad he's around!) We should all attempt to be good skeptics.

Both Olberman and Moyers provide a refreshing change from the usual bobbleheads repeating the guff from the GOP but are you all completely sure that they aren't gatekeepers providing an alternative narrative?

I've noticed some pretty ordinary analysis from both from time to time and there are some issues neither will touch it seems.

Beware demagoguery of all colours and shades. Be skeptical of everyone. Follow the money, not the leaders.

Oink.
