Stephen Colbert ripped apart Fox News host (and New York Times cover boy) Glenn Beck Tuesday night, mocking his 9-12 project, meant to conjure the spirit of compassion and camaraderie Americans felt on September 12, 2001.

"We weren't told how to behave that day after 9/11, we just knew," Beck says to describe the project. "It was right, it was the opposite of what we feel today. Are you ready to be the person you were that day after 9/11, on 9/12?"

"Ready!" Colbert shouted, decked out in a gas mask, holding a gun, and wearing adult diapers.

Colbert then used a classic "Daily Show," exposing the hypocrisy of Beck's 9-12 project by highlighting comments he made on September 9, 2005.

"This is horrible to say, and I wonder if I'm alone in this," Beck said on his radio program that day, "you know it took me about a year to start hating the 9/11 victims' families? I don't hate all of them. I hate probably about 10 of them. But when I see a 9-11 victim family on television, or whatever, I'm just like, 'Oh, shut up!' I'm so sick of them because they're always complaining. And we did our best for them."

"The 9-12 project is not for families directly affected by 9/11, just people building their careers on it," Colbert said.

Colbert went on to mock Beck's now infamous tendency to cry, and to launch his own "democratic experiment, the 10-31 project."

"It will be scare and balanced!" he joked.

I was watching an episode of Law & Order the other day that featured Colbert as the murdering bad guy. In addition to being a great comedian, he's also a pretty good actor.

Watch the 1976 film "Network"... it's amazing how prescient screenwriter Paddy Chayefsky was.

You gotta be a real fool not to see through Beck! I mean, he isn't even convincing, with his fake crying, his feigned outrage and his Faux Patriotism! What a load of utter bullshit!

No one could have put that on display better than Stephen Colbert. Good job, Stephen! You're absolutely a bright light in an otherwise dark and dreary night! Keep up the great work, and I will continue watching.

How can you or Colbert bring this story without mentioning the lies of 9/11????

It has been almost eight years now, and we now KNOW that the truth of 9/11 was covered up and that our government lied about what happened that day. 9/11 was an inside job. It is proven. Steven Jones, Kevin Ryan, Richard Gage and others have scrupulously looked at all the evidence and proven unequivocably that the collapse came about via controlled demolition.
And yet we read in Alternet about funny little fights about details of 9/11, with no mention of the biggest story of all time.
Just more self censorship by Alternet and Colbert.
We are being screwed by our media, all of it, alternative sources especially, as they have a special responsibility to go where the msm will not go.
And because of it, we have the Patriot Act, illegal wars and occupations, rendition, torture, the bleeding of our troops and our national treasury.
And Alternet doesn't care. The left doesn't care. The progressives don't give a shit. The world is torn apart by the racism and hatred brought to us by the perpetrators of 9/11, namely our political leaders and our press.
Alternet is responsible for this. As is Amy Goodman.
You all should be deeply ashamed.
You should be in jail.

Gitmo For Glen and Friends

Say...
Instead of closing Gitmo, wouldn't it be a fine place to house the Fox "News" Network it's twisted subscribers and it's mentally disturbed hosts?
We could fake an attack of some sort after starting some rumours we can pretend to ignore as Right Wing hooey. The "attack" can be centered at Fox HQ, and under the guise of a VIP evacuation, we pile all of them into some black Suburbans with a "military escort and drive by"victims" clawing and begging for help played by volunteers dressed as stereotypical liberals. (Peace signs, "Down With God" signs, gay couples on fire running hand in hand, "blowing" each other out, (sorry. bad pun added for insistent gay friend,) long hair, carrying bongs, bellbottoms, you get the idea.)
Gunshot and radiation burns can be applied by a team of makeup artists (also volunteers,) maybe include some well planned stunts and radio chatter, then drive their assess right through the gates at Gitmo, hustle them into separate cells and slam the doors closed.
We hold them without trial or explanation. And no torture.
Well, maybe let them listen to an endless loop of themselves spouting their deranged rhetoric 24-7 for 3 or 4 months.
AFTER they beg for it to stop.
With some good ol' American know how, we could use some similar slight of hand to flush out Right Wing Evangelical Hate Groups and Racist organizations that see the spread of freedom across the U.S. as a sign of fear and DOOM. Which it is. FOR THEM.
The fight for freedom can be a lot more fun.
Let's start an all American, militant, anti-violent, anit-racist, anti-discrimination group.
We can call it the 4thK.
Anyones else game?

Beck must be related to the Bu$h men. Those phony christians can turn on the tears better than most actors.

I don't watch the creepy Beck. I couldn't stand him when he was on CNN and I'm sure he is worse now that he's with Faux Spews.

It's good to see the gang from Comedy Central exposing them. The Daily Show and the Colbert Report are the best "news" shows on the air!!

Glen, 9/11 was an attack on the Military Industrial Complex

Those people who died were innocnet civilians begin basically used as Human shields. The MIC knew lives were at risk, esp after the first WTC attack. The Saudi native Sons weren't after US, they targeted the heart of the MIC- The financing of Military might and foreign policy. One need only review the Seize of extraordingary powers by the WH and the embezzlemet of Wall Streeters now to see who profited from 9/11..Follow the money Glen.Come on Glen who was siphoning off money to Binny's rag tag 'Afghani Freedom Fighters' in the '80's. Who gave Saddam that Anthrax- Ask John McCain about how he knew 'it came from Saddam'- long before test results were completed, disproving that allegation. In fact ask Mr McCain why he still has not shared with anyone the exact details since he claims to "knows how to catch Bin Laden".
Yes Glen there is an US and them- except you are working for Them and not US. Glen your acting abilities leave something to be desired- Honey you don't just serve them- you are one of them. Just like MN's Buchmann who also admits she is a Foreign correspondant behind enemy lines while operating in one of our Branches of Gov't and is calling for a hostile takeover of our Democracy.Hon, the reason Repugs retain their allegience to the color Red...It's matches their Coats. You do realize Glen- Propagandaist are prosecuted in High crimes Trial too.
