Pat Boone Wants to Rid the White House of "Vermin"

Well, we've known for some time that Pat Boone has gone wingnutty, but his latest column for the wingnutty WorldNetDaily is one of the most vile pieces of eliminationist rhetoric to come down the pike in awhile:

In time, it seems to happen to all older houses, no matter how well tended they may be.

All manner of parasites, vermin, roaches, rats, worms and termites find their way into the building. Long before they're detected, they infiltrate the walls, the floors, the roofs – and then chew their way into the structure, the supporting beams and the very foundation of the house itself. Silently, surreptitiously, whole communities of invaders make places for themselves, hidden but thriving, totally unknown by the homeowner.

Then, in time, tell-tale signs are seen. Little droppings, discolored trails, proliferating piles of residue appear in corners, on tabletops, little hanging sacs from ceilings – alarming evidence that the grand old dwelling has been invaded. Decidedly unwelcome creatures have made this place their home, and by their very existence will eventually destroy the house and bring it to ruin.

What can be done, when you learn that your house has already been invaded?

Well, the tried and true remedy is tenting.

Experts come in, actually envelope the whole dwelling in a giant tent – and send a very powerful fumigant, lethal to the varmints and unwelcome creatures, into every nook and cranny of the house. Done thoroughly, every last destructive insect or rodent is sent to varmint hell – and in a day or two, the grand house is habitable again.

I believe – figuratively, but in a very real way – we need to tent the White House!

For reasons only he can explain, the current occupant has purposely brought a whole flock of social and political voracious varmints with him into our House. He doesn't own it; he hasn't even rented it; we the people have simply given him the keys and invited him to live there for four years, making it convenient to serve us better, to carry out our expressed wishes for our country.

To the dismay of millions of us, this occupant seems to think we need an emperor. Even though all polls show that the majority of Americans don't want a whole new government-run health-care system, detest the trillions of dollars in un-payable debt he has foisted on us, question the whole "global warming" scare and disagree with him on many other issues, he boldly announces: "We're going to fundamentally transform America!" And he makes it clear that he is going to cram things down our throats whether we want them or not.

Boone then launches into a tirade based almost entirely on the Glenn Beck program (with a dash of Sean Hannity thrown in for good measure): A laundry list of the supposed Marxist radicals who have "infested" the White House, from Van Jones to Kevin Jennings. If you watch Fox, all this is familiar territory.

But what's disturbing about all this is that Boone seems to want the White House "fumigated" right now -- though he's vague on the details of just how we do that. What matters is the vile "varmints" Obama has let into his administration:

No, he wants people who think like this, in order to "radically transform America," as he has pledged.

And they will do just that, drastically … unless we act, decisively and powerfully. Our White House is being eaten away from within. We urgently need to throw a "tent" of public remonstration and outcry over that hallowed abode, to cause them to quake and hunker down inside. And then treat the invaders, the alien rodents, to massive voter gas – the most lethal antidote to would-be tyrants and usurpers.

We must clean house – starting with our own White House.

Tyrants and usurpers? A duly elected president? And when, exactly, does Boone foresee applying the "massive voter gas"? Because, you know, 2012 is quite a ways off still.

This kind of talk is an open invitation to violence; it creates permission for someone to act on this kind of exhortation, especially because it not only dehumanizes, it reduces people to the level of vermin, objects not only fit but desired for elimination.

If Pat Boone is any kind of gauge of the state of mainstream conservatism, I think it's safe to say these people have gone over a cliff and into a deep, yawning abyss.

Remember my discussion of this kind of rhetoric in The Eliminationists: How Hate Talk Radicalized the American Right:

What motivates this kind of talk and behavior is called eliminationism: a politics and a culture that shuns dialogue and the democratic exchange of ideas in favor of the pursuit of outright elimination of the opposing side, either through suppression, exile, and ejection, or extermination.

Rhetorically, eliminationism takes on certain distinctive shapes. It always depicts its opposition as beyond the pale, the embodiment of evil itself, unfit for participation in their vision of society, and thus worthy of elimination. It often further depicts its designated Enemy as vermin (especially rats and cockroaches) or diseases, and disease-like cancers on the body politic. A close corollary—but not as nakedly eliminationist—are claims that opponents are traitors or criminals and that they pose a threat to our national security.

Eliminationism is often voiced as crude "jokes," a sense of humor inevitably predicated on venomous hatred. And such rhetoric—we kn

Especially one that was a right-wing religio-fascist asshole when he was young, and are we surprised that this is what he excretes?

What the hell relevance does Pat Boone of all people have to the political landscape today? Aren't there any progressive, benign elders working for justice we could showcase instead of this dried-up old wad?

A quick glance at Wiki, gave these gems:

In 2006, Boone wrote an article for WorldNetDaily, in which he argued that Democrats and others who were against the president during the Iraq War could be questioned for their patriotism. He was interviewed by Neil Cavuto on Fox News, where he expressed his outrage against the opponents of George W. Bush (namely the Dixie Chicks) that their criticisms of the president showed they did not "respect their elders." Another article defended Mel Gibson after the actor was recorded making an antisemitic rant.

In early 2007, Boone wrote two articles claiming that the theory of evolution is an "absurd," "nonsensical" "bankrupt false religion." He later wrote an editorial in the form of a fairy tale where a young Prince Charming was seduced by a dwarf, got AIDS, and then overdosed.

In the 2007 Kentucky gubernatorial election, Pat Boone campaigned for incumbent Republican Ernie Fletcher with a prerecorded automated telephone message stating that the Democratic Party candidate Steve Beshear would support "every homosexual cause." As part of the campaign, Boone asked, "Now do you want a governor who'd like Kentucky to be another San Francisco?" This caused a great deal of controversy and backlash for Boone.

More recently, he assisted the John McCain 2008 presidential campaign by lending his voice to automated campaign phonecalls.

On December 6, 2008 Pat Boone wrote an article for WorldNetDaily wherein he drew analogies between recent gay rights protests, and recent terrorist attacks in Mumbai, India. He reminds readers of hostage taking, exploding bombs systematic murder and chaotic conditions of carnage. In it, he asserts that marriage is a biblically ordained institution, which the government has no part in defining. He then states that equal rights for women, blacks and slavery were not "obtained by threats and violent demonstrations and civil disruption" but rather through due process. He concludes by warning that unless they're checked, the "hedonistic, irresponsible, blindly selfish goals and tactics of homegrown sexual jihadists will escalate into acts vile, violent and destructive." The Human Rights Campaign has called this article "a new low in anti-gay rhetoric".
On August 29, 2009, Boone wrote an article comparing liberals to cancer, describing them as "black filthy cells".

There was a time when Pat Boone was just your average white-bread Christian conservative. But somewhere along the line he became a loony-tune. Now he is spewing right-wing hate rhetoric just like Michael Savage does. (Savage loves to call anyone who disagrees with him "vermin.")
The dictionary says that "vermin" are "harmful or objectionable animals." How nice of you Pat to refer to Obama and his staff as "animals". And what do you do with harmful animals? Why you kill them of course!
So good old "Christian" Patty Boone is suggesting that we need to murder the President and his staff before it is "too late." He even called Obama a "tyrant". Of course if someone should take a shot at the President Pat will no doubt say that he meant that metaphorically. Yeah, right.
Pat Boone--or should I say Pat LOON--is a piss poor example of a human being and a disgrace to this country. He should do us all a favor and just shut the hell up!

Usually its best if you want credibility to start at home.

Your brain is clogged with hate, intolerance, bigotism and other vermin. Try tenting.

Completing the final paragraph: "Eliminationism is often voiced as crude 'jokes,' a sense of humor inevitably predicated on venomous hatred. And such rhetoric—we know as surely as we know that night follows day—eventually begets action, with inevitably tragic results."

The tragic result for Boone is he's spent enough time over the years in homes with serious pest infestations - either his own home, his family's homes, or the homes of his followers - to ingest a residual DDT, Diazinon, Malathion, Difethialone, and Phosacetim cocktail which has had a serious impact on his brain matter.

Plus, living next door to the Osbournes in LA must have done some additional psychic contact-high damage.

Pat Boone has no soul.

He proved that in his 1956 cover of "Tutti Frutti,"
and hasn't grown one since.

Anything requiring soul, is beyond Pat's capacity.
Even Mean Gene Okurland has more soul than Pat's ever dreamt of.

Fuck Pat Boone.
He and his views are no more substantial than cotton candy.
All he can do is steal what someone else has already done,
fuck it up,
and nonetheless salvage something from effective marketing.

I want to hear what Little Richard has to say.
He's an original, a meat-and-potatoes kind of guy.
The Honorable Rev. Penniman is the Man to reckon with.
He's got weight, he's got soul, he's got substance.

Pat's nothing but a lightweight, blow-away flake.

All these self anointed perfect people invading our less than perfect world. Who invited him anyway? by the way, they aren't perfect. They simply spend their days criticizing everyone who isn't one of them. Did it ever occur to them that not all of us want to be like them. A person without some flaws and warts has no character,is dull and usually stupid. Pat Boone should put on his white bucks and go listen to Sarah Palin's speech. That would get two of them off the streets. ANNA

Boone on lead vocals; Nugent on guitar...
Since right-wing conservatives are not, by definition, creative people, their debut single will be a disco cover of Lee Greenwood's epic "Proud To Be An American" (Grammy Award winner in the "Most Insipid and/or Nauseating Lyrics" category.)
