Palin's New Book Selling for Dirt Cheap: How the Right Wing Boosts Sales

Posted by Jamison Foser, Media Matters for America at 12:43 PM on October 28, 2009.

Normally you have to wait until the public displays pretty strong disinterest in a book before you can pick up the hardcover for $4.97.

Ever wonder how so many right-wing books become "bestsellers"?  This may help explain it:

Normally you have to wait until the public displays pretty strong disinterest in a book before you can pick up the hardcover for $4.97.  But thanks to Richard Scaife's right-wing Newsmax.com, you can get Sarah Palin's book for that low price -- and it hasn't even been released yet.

Just keep this in mind if the media starts breathlessly reporting Palin's strong sales numbers.

Digg!

it's up to the people who do the tally to put a stop to this shit. as odious a practice as this may be, newsmax has every right to do so for now.

It's not unusual, but the question is: will it take off after that. I don't believe that Literature ala Palin is in demand. Even if people buy for $4-$5 that doesn't mean they'll read it. But $1.25 mil advance is alot of money. I shudder to think about who's bankrolling her. ANNA

I read that the Republicans make a little deal with book stores.

They provide their masterpiece for free to the large scale stores,in return for front shelf positioning. When there is no sales on the book ( I am thinking a few days for Palin) the Repukes "buy back" the unsold books after their modest profit off the sheep who have bought their piece of sh-t. But the sales are reported on the books on the shelves-even though they have really been bought by the Repukes (or their book dealing front groups). So when you see a #1 book by Glen Beck or some other piece of garbage, it is really being placed there by Repuke front groups, and not really sold at all. I have seen one of these books in one relatives house, and I doubt he read it at all (everybody has a relative like that). Other than that, I have never seen anyone purchase one of these #1 selling pieces of crap.

pieces of crap like these books are mass produced to be sold EVERYWHERE possible. I've seen these tomes in drug stores, supermarkets, big box stores, and even some churches. They're always front and center so you cant miss them. I once saw a copy of one of the early "Left Behind" series of books right at the check-out counter of the grocery store. I thought to myself, "What's going on when the religious nuts are allowed to propagandize in food stores?"

It's all about taking over the country ANYWAY they can. They're becoming more brazen about forcing their opinions down our throats every day...and the corporate pigs are more than willing to help them out After all, THEY are the POWER behind this propaganda blitz anyway.

If they sell the book cheap enough I'll buy thousands and use them for insolation in the walls of my next building project.

Ummm, I've lurched all over Alternet to find nauseating tidbits regarding *that* book. The one supposedly written by whatshername (I don't like to type her name because I will then automatically barf all over my keyboard) First, why is the "main" description of her? image? seem to be continually mis-spelled? She wants to be a *rogue*, I doubt she means to describe her cheek make-up which is called *rouge*? Why is this? Seems as goofy and nutso as she is. The "publisher" who apparently bought the ad (left sidebar) also refers to her "rouge" and NOT her [presumed] personality--as a rogue.

Oy. My comment makes as much sense as the nitwit "author" herself. Well, I won a city-wide 4th grade spelling bee a long time ago and spelling words correctly has been a passion of mine ever since. Rogue -- Rouge. Can't get the same meaning between those words, for sure.

Before it's even released, Queen Sarah of Palin's book is guaranteed to end up way-out-back-in-the-discount-rack ... territory she knows oh, so well.

I'll betcha if Levi dishes the dirt on whacky little Sarah – as he has threatened to do – his ghost-written book will outsell her ghost-written book. And at a higher price, too.

Only Palin seems to rattle the cages the left is locked in more than FOX. That is the only logical reason the right likes her so much. She's their "bad dog" sign and scares the left.
