On Monday, former Secretary of State Colin Powell said that he believed the Republican party is in “deep trouble,” “getting smaller,” and being led by polarizing figures like Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) and Rush Limbaugh. Powell said further that the party must realize that “Americans do want to pay taxes for services.” Of Limbaugh specifically, Powell said, “I think what Rush does as an entertainer diminishes the party and intrudes or inserts into our public life a kind of nastiness that we would be better to do without.”

Today on his radio show, Limbaugh responded by calling Powell “just another liberal.” Limbaugh said Powell should “close the loop” and leave the Republican party instead of “claiming” to be interested in reforming it. Additionally, Limbaugh reiterated his previous claim that Powell endorsed Obama only because of his race:

LIMBAUGH: [Powell] is out there saying I am killing the republican party while he endorsed and voted for Obama. … He’s just mad at me because I’m the one person in the country who had the guts to explain his endorsement of Obama. It was purely and solely based on race! There can be no other explanation for it. What Colin Powell needs to do is close the loop and become a Democrat instead of claiming to be a Republican interested in reforming the Republican party.

Limbaugh concluded, “The only reason to endorse Obama is race. I don’t think Powell thought he could get away without with not endorsing Obama. … So I don’t care.”

Watch it:

Greg Sargent concludes, “The optics of this one are not good.” Indeed, congressional Republicans are working extremely hard to ensure their rebranding effort is tailored to Limbaugh’s liking. Will they spoil their efforts by denouncing Limbaugh’s latest rant?

Digg!

Limbaugh is an Ass

It's really that simple.

More bad things could come from this, though...

If all the so-called moderates in the Republican Party decide to park in the Democratic parking lot, the real Progressives are going to be increasingly marginalized. And while it would be good for the Progressives to leave the D's and join the Greens or the Democratic Socialists, they're not terribly likely to hold much power.

We started losing once we allowed the GOP to drift freely to the right so many years ago.

Luckily for Limbaugh and Coulter and other jackasses like them, the left is generally less inclined to use violence, because we know that violence actually serves to achieve the objectives of the right. Any time violence happens, nationalistic and Fascist forces will capitalize on it.

Colin Powell should be our Secretary of State.

The fact Limbaugh remains on MSM and not placed in a blackbox that limits his reach to an after midnight audience speaks of the power of his corporate players.

Vote w/your Wallets, its the only thing they and MSM understands.

Why don't they just kick out everyone with an IQ >60? It wouldn't cost them very many members, and it would assure unanimity.

Never interfere with your enemy while he is committing suicide. Or, in the case of the Republican Party, tearing itself to pieces.
Rush Limbaugh is competing with George W. Bush to become "The Man Who Destroyed the Republican Party".
Keep at it, Rush! I love ya! You too, Ann Coulter, and Michael Savage, and Mark Levin. Y'all keep rippin' and tearin' at the Republican Party. We'll put the pieces in a box on the shelf next to the Whigs and the Bull Moose Party.

Good Bye Rush!! You just pissed off Military Families AGAIN!
Posted by: Purple Girl on May 7, 2009 5:27 AM
Current rating: 5    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
Seems Rush is trying to commit political suicide. first he disparages the Seals who saved the Captain from the pirates. If Rush knew anything about other cultures he'd know Western cultures are the only ones who actually call anything post puberty 'teenagers'. Most cultures have a rite of passage into adulthood when they reach about 13. They are no longer considered children, but men.
so claiming the seals killed 'Teenagers' is a sociological misnomer and frankly a diss to those mens manhood.
In so doing he just equated our Seals to child killers unjustly- That had to go over well with military families who's loved ones are in constant danger from post pubescent males around the World.
Now he's gone after a General, who even a liberal can concede got screwed by the Cheney Regime.
Rush's flayling to undermine Obama is about to land him literally on Ham radio.
Apparently Rush only Supports the Troops when it helps his ratings or political agenda, but is ready and willing to throw them under the bus if it gets in the way of his obsessive racism.
As a person who was opposed to putting boots on the Ground even in Afghanistan- I'm pissed about how Rush is dishonoring our people in Uniform. I always Supported the Troops, just not the Admin and their War for Profit agenda.
Good Bye Rush you have succeeded in alienating and pissing off not just liberals but every True patriot.
Look Down Rush your psuedo colors are fading!

Is he simply a sociopath?
His behavior goes beyond the simple "2 symbols of the Republican party" - an elephant, and a big fat white guy who is afraid of change. That he can effortlessly cross the line into racism and misogyny, that he can be caught with illegal Viagra coming in from -- the Dominican Republic? displays something deeper than just a noisemaker on the public airwaves. He has real problems, and should be locked up to protect himself from himself.

Rush is an ass.. and Powell has turned out to be a racist. He voted for Obama purely on race. It was obvious, like Oprah, they did not want to be seen as voting against a member of THEIR RACE!

I thought the world of this guy and would have voted for him for President back in 2001.

But his weakness in standing up to Bush and now his attempt to get with the program re Obama, just shows he belongs with the dems. Lord knows the repubs have enough problems without having him on board!

Limbaugh gets paid obscene amounts of money to rant and rave and trash our government. If he did it in a public place as a protestor he'd get arrested. Think about what got Amy Goodman arrested, not much. So it's OK to run your mouth as long as you get paid. But we can't do it for free. That explains everything. ANNA

stepped away from the Rebublican Party in 2008 and voted against McCain and Palin. It sure as hell was not about race. I grew up hearing the N word come out of his pie hole more than I could possibly count. He finally had enough of the right wing nut jobs and Palin scared the crap out of him. The republican party lost a white, southern, Vietnam Vet. I don't think he was the only one.

Remember the great Rahm moment when Obama said to the Republicans in Congress, "You guys can't listen to Rush Limbaugh." I am sure this was plotted since the predictable reaction cost the gNOp dearly. Trying to latch onto the usual mishmash of protest on April 15 cost them another 3 points in the polls. The house gNOp is down to 14% positive. How much will throwing Powell out cost them. I mean in IQ points alone losing a long time General with a long record and status as a Secretary of State because Rush is too pinheaded to come up with another reason than race for Powell to support Obama. What is Rush huffing today?

It is really a great tactic, tell them the truth and then watch the resulting hysteria.

It is interesting to compare the new government with the former government. Rush is definitely the leader of the opposition Republicans for better or for worse and I think we all know where that's heading but I'd like to just contemplate the new cabinet and the new feel of the government vs. the former. We have today a president who is a born leader. He exudes leadership qualities. This is his government in every way. All of his cabinet members are secondary even the very skilled and well known ones such as Mrs. Clinton. In contrast the former cabinet members were much more "stars" in their own right such as Colin Powell and Condaleeza Rice. That was because there was no true president, at least not one with presidential bearing or leadership qualities. So the underlings filled the void. That hasn't and will not happen today with a real president in power.

Joined the Democrats instead of aligning himself with the most evil regime in our history, he could've preserved his dignity, and maybe even have been a Presidential candidate. Instead, his loyalty to our nation was cynically used by cheney/bush,and after he'd served his purpose, he was eaten alive and spit out.

Ha Rush, I guess that black guy ( Powell ) was ok when he voted for those white guys all those yrs, Powell was a good ( BOY ) but now that Powell voted for the SMART, not hateful Black guy Obama, now Powell is a racist. Rush and all the bigots in the GOP are running the party, people like Powell and the other Moderates in the GOP don't think like them, They're being run out by that racist right wing side of the GOP. Have you notice that it's never the racist right wing parties fault, it's always some one elses fault. As long as the GOP allows racist Rush, Hannity, Coulter, Chaney, Rove, and all those other bigots in their party to speak for them, they'll going to remain out in the woods. The country is changing GOP, it's time to grow up.
