Really?! RNC Leader Michael Steele Thinks Obama 'Is the Magic Negro'

Posted by Ali Frick, Think Progress at 11:03 AM on May 1, 2009.

Steele laughed when a caller called Obama the "magic negro" and seemingly agreed with the characterization.

During the January campaign for chairman of the Republican National Committee, Michael Steele slammed his opponent Chip Saltsman's distribution of a CD with a song called "Barack the Magic Negro." "It doesn’t help at all," Steele said. "Absolutely, it reinforces a negative stereotype of the party." However, while hosting Bill Bennett's radio show this morning, Steele laughed when a caller called Obama the "magic negro" and seemingly agreed with the characterization:

CALLER: It's just like the LA Time said last year or two years ago: He is the magic Negro.

STEELE: Yeah he -- [laughing]. You read that too, huh? [still laughing]

CALLER: Oh yeah. I read that too. Even when things go wrong, he still manages to come out smelling like a rose.

STEELE: Well, yeah.

Listen to it:

As Steele is facing an internal power struggle, he may be trying to shore up his radical right-wing credentials. Though he earlier refused to call the president a "socialist," this week he declared Obama was "moving towards a collectivist socialist approach to government."

Digg!

After all, how many African-American men (or women, for that matter) have risen to chairman of the Republican National Committee, as did Michael Steele?

%^)

He laughed about it when it first happened, and at every opportunity since!

He said critics were being "oversensitive."

Inexplicable.

And it wasn't the LA Times that said this. As I recall it was some Republican politician who had it around. You can guess why.

Steele really shouldn't be allowed to get away with that one. Too sensitive? To centuries of brutal slavery and then segregation in the modern era? Sheesh!

Isn't it a little late for this clown to be pandering to the wingnut base.
Is there a Steele as chairman death watch out there?

This is the absolute weakest proof of racism I have ever heard. This a joke, the only reason this has become a big deal to the dems is because Steele is a black man and may possibly have a future of being the first Republican black president, so they start early portray him as a elitist, stupid stupid stupid, Honestly....Is Michael Steele a racist seriously? Dont agree because he's the opposition, use your brain

Of course theres planty of Females who purport to have a vagina but have no concept or concerns about true equality, and rights, either.Unaltered Drag Queens.
As minorites we must not try to protect these 'posers', they do nothing more than work against Us.
I call for a Clear differentiation between Feminist and Libbers. Feminist will demand we vote and support anyone with a vagina. Libbers demand all contenders compete on level ground. Let's be honest there a better proponents for Womens (and minority) causes than some who merely have the appearance of membership.
This was exposed during the last Presidential Election. some Feminist Groups (NOW) expected All Women to swoon over Hillary, even though her voting record on our issues was not as good as Obama's. Then the ignorant Right figured they could throw out any woman (qualified or not) and we would all come running- we didn't. She is a disspicable woman who put her career aspriation before the safety of her unborn child (8 hours before seeking medical attention after your water broke with an already compromised child???)
It is just as much an 'ism' to support someone merely because of their appearance as it is to be against them for that same reason.
As minorioties we need to not only expose them for what lies beneath, but disavow them profusely. This will clarify what the acceptable 'norms' are within the Group and what are not.Through this effort we will finally end this baiting on purely physical traits, so beloved by the Repugs. They insult our intelligence and our integrity.

Is the President magical or marginal?

Would it not be more politically correct to say that he is either a magical black person or a marginal black person?

This country has seen his magic with the ability to produce extraordinary results with large sums of borrowed money. Perhaps his magic comes from the 28 hours of live coverage from the MSM since taking office, along with countless hours and stories of the media talking to themselves about Mr. Obama and his magical deeds.

Mr. Bush had better numbers at 100 days and had only been given less than 10 hours of live coverage, but no one called him magical or even marginal.

So is Mr. Obama, really magical or just marginal with great PR?
