From his perch at the New York Times, Pulitzer Prize winning journalist James Risen has been at the forefront of uncovering some of the Bush administration's worst abuses of power. As a result, he has been hauled before a grand jury and pressured by the government to name his anonymous sources. A few days after this interview was filmed, one of Risen's key sources, Thomas Tamm, was featured on the cover of Newsweek as "The Fed Who Blew the Whistle." Risen spoke with ANP about the rise in executive power during Bush's tenure and how the media failed to be vigilant in the wake of 9/11.

or perhaps this is just some Mockingbird re-framing we're witnessing.

Mr. Risen, what security precautions were taken at the Genoa G8 summit in July of 2001 and why?

Mr. Risen, what security precautions were taken at the Florida resort where Mr. Bush spent the night of September 10, 2001 and why?

Mr. Risen, why had Florida Governor Jeb Bush put the entire state of Florida in a state of emergency just days before September 11, 2001?

Mr. Risen, what did Mr. Bush do immediately after being informed that the U.S. was under attack shortly after 9 am and thirty minutes before the Pentagon was "attacked"?

Mr. Risen, what about the $15 billion in unprecedented financial transactions that show clear foreknowledge of the "attacks" on 9/11/01, how were they a "fluke"?

Mr. Risen, what about NORAD's inability to scramble jets and intercept planes for 100 minutes, when their normal response time is under 15 minutes and the FAA calls them to do this about every 2 1/2 days. Was that a fluke, too?

Mr. Risen, what about the fifteen or more military exercises that were taking place on 9/11/01, some of which involved planes being flown into buildings?

Mr. Risen, did you sleep through your eighth grade science class?

A fluke is a fish, Mr. Risen, not an adequate explanation or description for a significant historical event.

I hope I get the chance to speak to Mr. Risen in person some time, that should be quite entertaining.

The truth shall set us free. Love is the only way forward

The NYTimes isn't a newspaper at all, its a petri dish of mis and disinformation. A cheap PR firm that hasn't the courage, integrity and ethics to confront the lies that pile up post 9/11.

When Judy Miller and her editors go on trial for conspiracy to commit fraud, I'll read about elsewhere and save a tree.

He will ignore them, as he has done all along. In our country, being impeached, being hauled before a grand jury, is only for attention grabbing crimes like adultery, which get the masses glued to their tv's and engaged in conversations about cigar sex around the water cooler. Tampering with foreign governments, staging false flag attacks, meddling in elections, attacking our constitution, are only the concerns of a few silly progressives and patriots.

A July 2007 statement from Obama: "I think you reserve impeachment for grave, grave breaches, and intentional breaches of the president's authority."

Yeah, right.

If he never did anything or spoke out as a Senator, why would he change his position now?

I reject you underlying premise
Media is not meant to be a Reflection of US.
What happened to Narcissus?More importantly what Did NOT happen to Narcissus? he was so entranced with his own reflection, while the world moved without him,he grew roots which would keep him trapped at the rivers edge forever.
Obviously the benefit of reflection to check for imperfections or blemishes was not what you were implying, so obviously your 'reflection' analogy was entirely in regards to vanity. That seems far more necessary for Monarchies to reign, than Democracies to thrive.
But your narcissistic analogy does apply whenit comes to the MSM blaming everyone but themselves for their dereliction of duty as a functional aspect of a True Democracy. You Blame the Politicians for Lying to you and blame the Public for making you let the policitians lie to you.
Your 'logic' reeks of self justifying excuses.
It did not take a Middle East Scholar to know the region was a hotbed of instability
It did not take a PhD in Economics to see the hypocracy of Trickle Down in a Free Market Free Markets don't have graduated Stations where all wealth and resources are hoarded and dispensed by those at the top.
It does not take a Constitutional Law professor to understand that Just because the president say's it's legal it therefore is, Is Bullshit....That is the Luxury of Kings & dictators.
It does not take a historian (or psychic) to know Greed is the down fall of all great empires. With complacency and complicity aiding it's efforts.
It does not require a Theologic indoctrination or a scientific methodolgy to know we are the only species which can effect the planet and the future.
Seems to me the MSM works harder to obscure the obvious behind rhetoric which hinges off lies and false assumptions.
the MSM has Earned the Priviledge of being ranked as Untrustworthy, Useless and at times detrimetnal to the Interests of a Democratic society.
If they continue to 'reflect' instead of Expose, then they leave Us all hostages of their self infatuation.
Stop telling Us what we want to hear, Tell US what we need to hear. Otherwise you are nothing but a looking glass for the Ruling class and thus co conspirators to the End of Our Great Democracy.

I agree with the previous posters, however I must say, I don't necessarily blame the media. Bush, Cheney and particularly Rumsfield all have overstepped their boundaries and should be brought to justice. Not the underlings who were only doing what they were told to do. Although history shows that they usually pay the price for managements errors.
That said, Neither Obama, Sen. Ried, nor Congresswoman Pelosi have the where with all to bring the charges against them. They are all in bed together. We can't expect friends to rat each other out! Never happen. It will take an outsider or the UN Tribunal or pressure from other countries to bring them to justice, mark my words....
He promised many things during his campaign, I fully expect him to go back on at least half. To do otherwise is folly. He has already refused to back medical cannibas and the individual state rights to enforce voter approved laws. Even though he knows full well that hemp is a miracle plant in many ways. He also wanted to cut down on public safety and immigration border patrol inside the borders, but increase safety at the border...he's also backed out of that. Just look at his cabinet and you can tell that not much is going to change, and you can bet that he will keep his increased powers unless the people force him to rescind them. So much for ending the war in Iraq and the war in Afghaniston is to intensified...so what don't you get? Change comes way to slowly, and the people of the US are too lazy and wrapped up in soap operas to pay attention. If he fixes the economy and healthcare all else will be forgotten, you watch!

The role of the mainstream media

I beg to differ, regarding the role of the mainstream media. The media's role should not be to go with the flow of popular public opinion. We don't need them to mirror our behavior. Rather, the MSM should always question and investigate everything, go against popular opinion, and search for the nuggets of truth. That's their job, and by the way, it is the duty of every American citizen to always question the government.
