I really did want to blog more today, but ended spending hours on the phone doing interviews for an article on blogs instead. Ah, the irony -- not really.

This is my last entry for 2005. I'm going to spend much of next week wrapping up my writing commitments so that I can treat myself to a real, computer-free holiday this year.

So in the spirit of this season, I leave you this image sent in by Stephen O'Melveny of the famous baby hippo who was adopted by a 100-plus year old tortoise in the wake of the tsunami on the Kenyan coast [Details and more pictures here]. Yes, one last chance to be sappy before the steady flow of political vitriol resumes in the new year.

What Christmas is really all about

Yes, it's the celebration of the birth of Christ. But even if you're not a Christian, Christmas is also about GIVING! Giving of yourself, of your time and of your love to your fellow human beings. It's not about sales events and fat guys in red suits or who gets the biggest and most expensive gifts. It's not about the bottom line or running your electric bill up just to impress the neighbors. It's not about getting drunk at office parties or recycling the same damn fruitcake your great great grandmother tried to give away years ago.
It's about bringing joy to those who have none. It's about clothing and feeding the homeless. It's about making Christmas miracles happen.
But it's not just this time of year. Christmas is supposed to be the motivation, the inspiration to do these things all year. Not going out and protesting something or trying to disrupt other people's lives. It's about helping out your fellow man through real actions. Booker T. Washington once said, "There are two ways one experts one's strength; one is pushing down and the other is pulling up."
So let's all try to "pull up" our fellow humans. Not just during Christmas, but all year.
GOD BLESS & MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

No politics for me on this thread. Just warm wishes for a good couple of holiday weeks, to the author for bringing it up, and to all of you, right, left, center, up and down. Take a break from rhetorical combat and love thine enemies or something.
Merry Xmas, Seasons Greetings, Happy Hollidays, what have you.

It's a well deserved break for you but I, for one, will be looking forward to your '06' insights.
