The Minutemen Scam

Unsurprisingly, hints of graft raise more questions about anti-immigrant hate group.

One of the few pleasures to be derived from watching the antics of the American right is that more often than not, the whole scene devolves into something like a Punch-and-Judy show on acid (bad acid, admittedly), which if nothing else has its moments of amusement. If they're not turning up dead from self-asphyxiation dressed in wet suits, they're busy ripping people off -- most particularly each other. At which point much more head-clubbing ensues.

Take, for instance, that erstwhile Neighborhood Watch on Androgenic Steroids, the Minutemen. It seems that even though the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, whose finances have come under close scrutiny, reported income to the IRS that finally jibed with what they reportedly spent, there's something not quite right about their accounting:

But Stacey O'Connell, former MCDC Arizona state chapter director who is now a member of the Patriot's Border Alliance, a separate Minuteman-style organization, said the money listed in the new 990 filing does not match claims by Mr. Simcox on how much MCDC has actually collected.
Mr. O'Connell said that in past interviews, Mr. Simcox said the organization had collected $600,000 in donations in its first year, along with $1.6 million for a border fence MCDC is building. He said he also is aware of a single $100,000 donation given by an Arizona man. He later filed a fraud lawsuit against MCDC that has since been withdrawn because of a lack of funds to pursue it.
"After reviewing the Minuteman Foundation 990 from 2006, it appears well below the donation amounts Simcox has claimed in the past," Mr. O'Connell said. "Many of us, perhaps thousands of volunteers and supporters, have donated not only to MCDC but to the fence project as well.
"Many of us also feel that the lack of cooperation in showing where the money goes, how it is spent; that there is something very wrong within the organization," he said.
MCDC, on its Web page, said donations have been "used wisely and effectively, and have focused the nation on illegal immigration," saying it "cannot ... accept responsibility for conspiratorial, disruptive and inappropriate speculations about MCDC organizational process and finances, nor will we waste precious time or resources upon those who refuse to accept the IRS nonprofit organization financial accountability standards."

The reality of the Minutemen -- that they really are just another right-wing moneymaking scam, one that mostly takes money out of the pockets of ordinary citizens -- became clear shortly after they split into two organizations in late 2005 -- mainly because the two paranoiac egos that had founded the organization, Jim Gilchrist and Chris Simcox, wound up scarcely able to be in the same room together.

Simcox went off and formed the MCDC, part of an elaborate PR makeover for Simcox. It was built essentially around drafting as many recruits from non-border states into their border-militia concept -- which they could fulfill just by donating. Then Simcox has turned around and hawked the resulting mailing lists to right-wing political-mailing outfits. At the same time, he's embarked on other scams as well, most notably the supposed construction of the border fence that never got built.

Meanwhile, Jim Gilchrist has not fared any better. His Minuteman Project organization has similarly devolved into a predictable right-wing mudpit, with lawsuits and paranoiac accusations flying hither and yon.

It would be a lot more amusing if they could find a way from making demonizing Latinos and other immigrants the reason for their existence.

Digg!

Interesting: Why am I not surprised? Hate mongering is easy to do, requires few real facts, thrives on innuendo and flourishes on people’s fears and prejudices. Those that do this are basically morally corrupt.
Most of all it is extremely profitable. As proof I offer all the right-wing radio trash talkers headed by Rust Limpbough. Let me not forget the current administration bilking us of now hundreds of billions. I am not for gun control this is already ugly.

It's about ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION or call it The INVASION..!

A group like this cannot help but be flawed and even eventually corrupt, but their creation is only due to the governments policy to not enforce and protect our borders from ILLEGAL Immigration..

Whenever I notice that those trying to pass themselves off as experts in this issue and they refuse to differentiate between the 2 million immigrants per year our nation welcomes and accepts and grows and flourishes thanks to and the 1 to 3 million additional Illegal immigrants or to be more accurate invaders..pouring over our borders I dismiss their argument as disingenuous rhetoric and propaganda which it is...

If you believe that this invasion of criminal illegal immigrants is not harming the working class and sub middle class Americans and eroding and stressing to the breaking point the social services and social safety net meant for American citizens then try putting down the Brie and Vicodin and Chablis and try getting out a little..!

There by Homeland Securities own rare admission 85,000 Illegal Immigrant gang members if not more already here in America and I suspect there are that many alone in California itself..

This issue and the blatant dishonesty of candidates such as Obama, Clinton and yes even McCain who refer only to Immigration and that Americans are against Immigration are themselves all bald face liars..!

Lairs one and all if they cannot differentiate between Immigration and the real Issue of Illegal Immigration and from many nations not just Mexico or other central and south American nations but also many other nations including largely the Middle East as many Illegal Immigrants or Invaders are coming not over our southern border but flying into JFK and other north east airports..

It's ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION that is the Issue..

The Democrats refusing to be honest about this issue and abandoning America's working class and it's poor and it's blacks in this issue who are perhaps the most directly negatively affected may be one of the main reasons and factors in losing this election..and others in the future..

What about ILLEGAL Immigration how many people from corrupt nations must we accept and how will it effect our nation..?

If the Bush Administration didn't want to destroy the social safety net and Social Security and run down wages to a level equal to or below the 1930's for all Americans and American workers as we see with The SPP treason and North American Union betrayal they would have protected our borders and there never would have been a reason for or support for a group such as the Minutemen..!

Let's take a look at Illegal immigration and the concept called infrastructure investments.

The citizens of this country have invested literally trillions of dollars in bonds to build our infrastructure. It is that infrastructure that plays a critical role in the prosperity (although fading) that we have.

You know what I'm talking about, roads, schools, teachers, sewers, hospitals, doctors, libraries, industrial parks, commercial centers and a whole lot more.

These are investments that we made in our own communities to promote future prosperity, comfort and security. We have the right and the obligation to protect those investments in our future.

We also have the right and obligation regulate who we benefits from those investments that are not American citizens but residents of other countries. If we do not handle this obligation effectively, we will squander our prosperity.

Controlling who enters this country to benefit from the prosperity we have build is as logical as controlling who has access to your bank accounts, house, car, medical records, etc.

Not the Issue

Let me begin by making clear that I am a native, not naturalized, citizen of the United States. Both my parents were born in the U.S. And so were all four of my grandparents. My great-grandparents, though, were immigrants. In the Nineteenth century.

So perhaps you will understand if I say this in words as simple as I can manage: Immigration is not the issue. ILLEGAL immigration is the issue. By definition, an illegal immigrant is one whose entry into the United States is not blessed by permission to do so, issued by the legally constituted government of the said United States – of America, not the United States of Mexico or any other nation or state.

I am not anti-immigrant because I do not want unauthorized and undocumented people swarming in their millions over the border to take up residence here, for whatever reasons seem well and good to them. I am not anti-immigrant because I do not want my taxes increased to pay for the education, medical care, child support enforcement, housing, unemployment insurance benefits, and food stamps of people who find it necessary fraudulently to obtain drivers’ licenses and Social Security cards in order to work because they entered this country illegally. I am not anti-immigrant because I object to amnesty programs that encourage people to enter this country illegally and hide out long enough for another class of politicians to want a fresh crop of voters beholden to them, precipitating yet another amnesty. I am not anti-immigrant because I point out that if someone enters this country illegally, that does not portend well for that person’s future respect for and observance of the laws of either the state or the nation in which he or she is now resident (someone once pointed out to me that it’s usually best to begin as you mean to go on).

So, please, tell me (if you can – without stretching, bending, folding, spindling, or mutilating the truth), why is it that, among the immigrationists, legal and illegal immigration is all lumped together when all I’ve protested is the illegal part? How does that make me anti-immigration? I’m just suggesting that people obey the law.

What's the last company that had to pay a fine for hiring undocumented workers? Hmm....can't remember? The point of having undocumented workers is to give corporations CHEAP LABOR-- increase profits and weaken unions all at once.
