Study Says Marijuana Use Doesn’t Raise Cancer Risk: Will the Media Care?

Posted by Paul Armentano, NORML at 8:28 AM on March 6, 2008.

So for the second month in a row we have researchers from New Zealand telling us that pot smoking has little-to-no association with cancer.

Smoking pot, even long-term, is not associated with an increased risk of developing cancers of the head and neck, according to the results of a just-published case-control study from New Zealand.

"This population-based study did not find a statistically significant increase in the risk of head and neck cancer in adults [under age 55] from cannabis," authors concluded. "[Even] the risk associated with the highest tertile of cannabis use (defined as one joint per day for more than eight years) was not statistically significant after adjustment for cofounding variables including tobacco smoking, alcohol consumption, and level of income."

So for the second month in a row we have researchers from New Zealand telling us that pot smoking has little-to-no association with cancer. But perhaps you missed the first study. That would be understandable because the mainstream media deliberately obscured its findings with alarmist headlines like "Cannabis Bigger Cancer Risk Than Cigarettes" and "Experts Warn of Cannabis Cancer 'Epidemic'" -- headlines that, in fact, were nearly the opposite of what the study actually said.

So now we come to this latest report -- written by the same investigative team and involving almost the same number of subjects. Anyone think that the mainstream press will jump on the "pot isn't linked to cancer" bandwagon? I'm not holding my breath.

Candidate for U.S. Senate in New York

While the "War on Drugs" can be used to justify our surveillance society and while the prison industry can incarcerate hundreds of thousands of Americans (read: generate profits) by locking up mostly lower-class marijuana users [after all, those who can afford good lawyers won't do time] we shall never see sanity in our drug laws. The mainstream media is owned by those in power who don't want to upset this apple cart. And what's even worse, almost no one in Congress seems willing to tackle this unpopular issue.

It only makes Common Sense to legalize drugs. And if you are one of those who think otherwise, simply watch this 13 minute video from Law Enforcement Against Prohibition:

That would be the ONDCP. Will the persecution never end for the sick the hurt and the dying? Not with the GOP running things, and even with Dems in control it won't be alot better although the candidates state they'll call a halt to the raids by the jackbooted creeps AKA the DEA. When are they gonna make this plant legal?

No, they will never mention it! Not any more than they cared to mention when Dr. Manuel Guzman of Complutense University in Madrid Spain discovered that THC destroys tumors with no negative side effects whatsoever in the year 2000.

Or, when they censored this same information from the public in 1974 when the Medical College of Virginia originally made this very discovery.

Or, when Dr. Xia Zhang of the Memorial University of Newfoundland found cannabinoids actually promote the growth of brain cells in 2005.

Or, the fact that cannabinoids have actually been found to prevent Alzheimers disease, can treat Alzheimers, as well as MS, epilepsy, autism, diabetes, depression, chronic pain, migraine, arthritis, asthma, emphysema, glaucoma, nausea, obesity, alcoholism, drug addiction, herpes, cystic fibrosis, Huntingtons, Parkinsons, Tourettes, Crohns disease, and more.

They wont tell the public that all mammals, birds, fish, and reptiles have all of these cannabinoid receptors throughout their body that work independent of those that govern the heart and breathing, and that this is why cannabis cannot kill you!

They wont tell you that the cannabis hemp seed is the single most nutritious thing you can eat, and that our Government stockpiles it as a strategic food source under Executive order #12919.

They wont tell you that anything made from oil, coal, timber, or cotton, can be made ecologically friendly with cannabis hemp, or that hemp is by far the greatest source for biomass on the planet. That canvas is Dutch for cannabis and its fiber is the longest and strongest in nature. They will never mention cannabis hemp as the one renewable resource that can provide all of our paper, plastics, packaging, textiles, fuels, lubricants, paints, varnishes, plywood, structural components, insulations, many cosmetics, and health foods, over 25,000 known products, they will never mention any of this about cannabis hemp.

They wont tell you the huge positive impact that this one plant has played throughout human history for the benefit of mankind for spirituality, food, clothing, sails, rope, shelter, medicine, and much, much, more.

But the last thing on Earth they will let get out is the Biblical fact that in the original Hebrew text of the Old Testament, Exodus 30:23, God instructed Moses to use 250 shekels of "kaneh bosm," cannabis, in the oil to anoint all his Kings, Priests, and Prophets, for all generations to come, including that of Jesus and even today as the title Christ/Messiah means literally covered in oil, Anointed! Or that Kaneh is also listed as an incense Tree in Song of Songs 4:14, and again in Isaiah 43:24, Jeremiah 6:20, and Ezekiel 27:19. Or that the Biblical "Canon" is also derived from the Hebrew "Kaneh."

They wont even tell you that calamus, the plant the Greeks mistranslated from the Hebrew "kaneh bosm" in the 3rd century B.C., is itself an aphrodisiac and stimulant, its active chemical asarone a possible precursor to the psychedelic MDMA, ecstasy. They won't tell you either way.

And either will the church!

Jeremiah the Prophet says it well;
How can you say, "We are wise,
for we have the law of the Lord,"
when actually the lying pen of the scribes has handled it falsely?

Food, fuel, shelter, medicine, pleasure, spirituality, unity!
The Tree of Life!
Kaneh bosm, cannabis, hemp!!!

that ALL "recreational" drugs e.g.Marijuana,cocaine etc. be made legal. Those who need them or want them will have cheap access. Just think of all the slimy drug dealers and miserable war-like countries done out of their cash. We could all celebrate the end to a lot of crime on the streets for one thing. What would the Taliban due without their opium money? There would not likely be an increase in drug use and the profit motive would be gone. Remember Prohibition!
