After passing last month a penny-ante compromise bill on energy, Senate leaders finally launched a real confrontation over the direction of our energy policy.

And the Senate conservative minority was exposed, as they once again filibustered legislation reflecting the public will. The AP wire headline was plain: "Senate GOP blocks windfall tax on Big Oil."

The bill laid out a clear shift in energy policy. The proposed tax on oil companies would not apply to profits "reinvested in clean, affordable, domestically produced renewable fuels, expanding refinery capacity and utilization, or renewable electricity production." This is a compromise approach, creating an incentive to increase the supply of both clean energy and refined oil.

And the bill brought back a previously filibustered proposal to repeal $17 billion of tax subsidies to BIg Oil. Both the repeal and the windfall tax revenue would have been returned to consumers to help with current price spikes and invested in clean energy to help with energy costs in the near future.

Furthermore, conservatives filibustered another critical bill, extending tax credits to companies generating renewable energy including wind and solar power. Why? As the San Francisco Chronicle reports, "it would have raised taxes on hedge-fund managers to pay for the tax credits."

Heaven forfend!

But perhaps more important to conservatives than protecting hedge fund managers profits, is protecting oil companies from having to compete with other energy producers on a level playing field, denying consumers a real choice for their energy needs.

President Bush has said, "America is addicted to oil." But perhaps it's more accurate to say: conservatives are addicted to Big Oil.

Because we Americans have been quite clear that we want a new energy policy that uses our tax dollars, not to pad Big Oil's record profits, but to increase the supply of clean energy so we won't be at the mercy of Big Oil forever.

Given the opportunity to break their addiction, conservatives refused to take the first step and admit they have a problem.

Bring on the intervention.

The so called Conservatives are in cahoots with big oil and this huge swindle on going by the Speculators that brought us the Enron scandal as well..

The Texas Mafia of Phil Gramm, Tom Delay, Dick Armey, Ken Lay, Jeff Schilling, George Bush, this all goes back to 2000 when Phil Gramm slipped in the Enron loophole as former Director of the commodities and Futures Trading Commission Michael Greenberger has explained over and over..including before our Senate Commerce Committee..

It can all be addressed and now the Chief of OPEC has said the same thing...

Yet our politicians and candidates won't tell Americans the truth...

It's all artificial market manipulation the conservative deregulation fetish has ruined every arena where it has been employed like everything else there's is a failed ideology bankrupt and ruinous led to huge debt and a lower dollar and unsafe failing Airlines unsafe food unsafe drugs all of which also cause us to fail in the world market..and world opinion..

These so called Conservatives are just a bunch of treasonous greedy traitors and swindlers of the first order...

Latest blame the victim Propaganda "Do You Own an Oil Co?"

This lastest BS Ad sent me to my computer demanding MSNBC take it off! Instead the next time I saw it there was a Follow up Tag AD to further it's justification
The Ad implies that WE are the ones responsible for the Course the Oil industry has taken for the last several Decades. It is OUR fault because we have been investing in them. Pension, Annuities....BS!! As a wife of a Union Worker WE were never asked Where we would like those funds invested. Nor have we ever been asked by the Oil industry what ethical standards do we think they should abid by. In Fact we are Not even allowed to withdrawl from these investments- not as a Temporary loan anymore or entirely should we decide we do not Like the things they are investing In.They are holding our hard earned money Hostage. Only by leaving the Union for 2 yrs will we have access to our Own Funds!
Further this 'blame the victims' attempt is also a way to point a finger at US for All their Misdeeds. 'We didn't get out of the ME and Off their Oil in the '70's because YOU had too much money invested in it.We continued our Dealings with the Oppressive 'Royal' regimes who promote Terrorism to deflect blame away from themselves and towards US, because It would have decreased YOUR returns.'
So it was the Oil inidustry who was a victim of circumstances? They were just doing OUR Bidding? And Of course that excuse works as Cover for the Big 3 too- 'You wanted us to bring back Gas Guzzling Lead sled and Told Us to keep being the junkies for the Oil industry and It's Foreign sponsors'
Thus it is not their Fault that we are in this 'blood For Oil' War and Imperilaistic march towards total conquest of the M.E., They are Just our Humble Servants. So If it finally is accepted as Fact we were Attacked on 9/11 because of THEIR actions - they will be able to turn and Point the Finger at US as the Real Institgators
Sorry Boys- We told you To get off Oil in the '70's, We had numerous movement to promote alternative energy sources, and had a number of innovations which would have made this possible at least 20 yrs ago. Your Greed and complicity with Foreign agendas is what blocked any progress on this monumental issue. You intentionally Pushed US back on Oil by making it an easy (cheap) drug again, then intentionally pushed it back up as a economic necesssity to max Out Profits.
There is Blood and conspiracial Mud all over your hands. The cause of 9/11 was the unethical and immoral Business practices of the Oil industry with the help of Politicians, Military might and Auto industry aiding in pumping up our addiction.
No, I do Not Own an Oil company,But If I did then I would also own all the Asses responsible for the Treason which has been committed, And I would Be the Queen of Hearts, 'Off with their Heads'.So you may want to reconsider your Ad.

Mitch McConnel is the most despicable Human Being this side of Dick Cheney and Karl Rove .A man who would attack Children to justify his opposition to expanding CHIP but has no problem giving Billions in Tax breaks to an Industry awash in profits .
BTW Mitch Whatever happened to the Republican Mantra of allowing for a straight up or down vote in the Senate OR did that only apply when YOU had the Majority . The Dems should have made them get up and actually have to defend their positions . Let the American public see them capitulating to Big Oil . Yes and we should borrow that wonderful Republican accusation of how this is Thwarting the will of the people and callthem the Obstructionists they ARE
