What's John Edwards Up to These Days?

Posted by Jeff Fecke, Shakesville at 2:15 PM on February 29, 2008.

John Edwards is a talented man, and he deserves a place in whatever Democratic administration comes next.

After he left the presidential race, one could have forgiven John Edwards if he just wanted to go back home to enjoy a period of semi-retirement. Spend time with his wife and kids, kick back, relax after running for president for pretty much seven years straight.

Fortunately for the rest of us, that's not what John Edwards is doing:

A coalition announced Monday and called Iraq Campaign 2008 seeks to tie anxiety over the faltering economy to anxiety over the duration of the war. Part of its agenda is targeting what it calls "obstructionist" members of Congress--Democrats as well as Republicans--that don't seek a rapid withdrawal from Iraq. The campaign has an attention-getting front-man: former presidential candidate John Edwards. The effort, however, is not without problems--not least of which is the conundrum of whether antiwar activism turns out to be counterproductive to ending a war.

"People don't understand why we're spending $500 billion and counting in Iraq," Edwards said in a Monday conference call, "when at the same time we've got 40-plus million Americans with no health care coverage, 37 million-plus living in poverty. It doesn't make sense to them."

The effort is the brainchild of a group of liberal organizations: MoveOn.org, the Service Employees International Union, the VoteVets progressive veterans network, USAction and the Center for American Progress.

Good for him. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: John Edwards is a talented man, and he deserves a place in whatever Democratic administration comes next. In the meantime, it's nice to see him working to raise awareness of the fact that our economic woes are in no small part tied to the bottomless pit of blood and treasure that we continue to feed.

Right on, John Edwards. Presidential candidates do not have a monopoly on ideas or calls to action. I am a proud supporter of John Edwards '08; first as a presidential candidate and now as a advocate for the people.

I would like to see John Edwards as Attorney General. It would be a perfect job for him, and would allow him to go after the crooks that he has been talking about.

I know that probably isn't going to happen, but it would be my dream ticket.

Delegates are only commited in the first round of voting.

What if it became common knowledge that corporations were anti-American and without doubt the primary cause of injustice, crime, poverty and war? Edwards is the only remaining candidate not compromised by corporate donations.

The mainstream media is not going to admit its own corruption. But Edwards could make the case.

Yes for John Edwards as Att Gen. We need a real working democracy with all political parties in the new administration.

Obama as President, ,Hillery as Sec of State or even foreign policy, Ron Paul maybe as head of the Security Exchange Commission. Some of my dreams. Get Nader and Dennis K in there as well. We have great talented statesmen and we need all of them right now.

BUT Please keep McCain away from politics, he has so lost it, dementia maybe.

After the blow of losing Kucinich, and then the heartache of losing Edwards, I am still recovering. John Edwards is AWESOME and the media blackout is the reason he's not one of "our two contenders." I hope he finds a way back into a position of power and remains the wonderful person he is.

How many of you have heard about HR676 now being proposed in the U.S. House?? None--why does that not suprize me.

On the back cover of NATION Magazine (3-10-08) is an ad being co-sponsered by the California Nurses Assn. and thre National Nurses Organizing committee to give ALL Americans the same health insurance plan enjoyed by our Congress and idiot in waiting, Dick Cheney for whom the bill is named.

In short, bypassing the money monster Insurance Industry and seriously damaging the Drug Industry. Why you will never see this ad.

This is the first time to my knowledge that someone has given to the "We the People" the means to have some influence in getting a bill that will actually benefit the all us lowlifes.

Where to start: Google CHENEYCARE.ORG, SIGN UP AND FOR ONCE ACTUALLY GET OFF YOUR DEAD ASSES AND DO SOMETHING TO HELP YOURSELVES!!

It won't happen if YOU do not participate. Obviously check it out then forward it to everyone you know. We have a chance to do something if we all act. Pass this along to other Blogs. Don't be afraid to send a C.C. to your Congressman and Senators. Crazy Carlos

when Kerry and Edwards folded up like cowards and chose not to fight the STOLEN election, they put a final end to any presidential aspirations they had.

Being a 'nice man' isn't enough.

Marginalizing Independence

John Edwards --and to a greater degree, Dennis Kucinich -- have been marginalized by the mainstream corporate media precisely because they haven't marched in lockstep. These are the voices we need to hear. The media found Kucinich too independent from the start, and effectively blocked him out of the public discussion, but I would encourage everyone to check out his website, consider his ideas. The media has worked hard to reduce Edwards to a hair style, clearly with the intent of marginalizing his ideas.

Corporate media giving face time to anti-corporatist candidates?

John Edwards was everything the corporate elite fear - an electable populist. Both Clinton and Obama do not have voting records that suggest half the cojones of John Edwards in curbing the massive degree of corporate welfare our government supports. So, by ignoring him, they killed his candidacy.

(PARTY!), with an Al Gore endorsement, and Michael Moore behind them! If you read this John, the Convention isn't till July, and if you read their party platform, on their web site, I think it's something you could get behind, which includes single-payer health care, and ending the war!! (No Corporate Money Allowed) After you suspended, I'm going Green Party, I just can't support the two Corp/Centrists Left!!
