Peggy Noonan's Lame Smear of the Obamas, Is This All She's Got?

Nooner really needs to lay off the sauce.

Right now Mr. Obama is in an awkward moment. Each day he tries to nail down his party's leftist base, and take it from Mrs. Clinton.

If "awkward" means -- raising shitloads of money and winning state after state all over the map -- then yes, he's in an awkward moment. And this notion that the "leftist base" are beholden to the hawkish Hillary of the DLC is just laughable. She actually gets paid to write this crap?

But here's the rub:

His problem was, is, his wife's words, not his, the speech in which she said that for the first time in her adult life she is proud of her country, because Obama is winning. She later repeated it, then tried to explain it, saying of course she loves her country. But damage was done.

Ah, yes. The damage was done -- with the crowd who for the past year have been screaming Balackhusseinosama and who've been forwarding e-mails about Obama being a Muslim and hating America because he didn't put his hand on his heart during the national anthem. Oh noes! Those wingnuts will never vote for Obama now!

Are the Obamas, at bottom, snobs? Do they understand America? Are they of it? Did anyone at their Ivy League universities school them in why one should love America?...Have they been, throughout their adulthood, so pampered and praised--so raised in the liberal cocoon--that they are essentially unaware of what and how normal Americans think? And are they, in this, like those cosseted yuppies, the Clintons?

Using words like "snobs" and "pampered" to describe Michelle Obama, who grew up the daughter of a Chicago water plant employee, and Barack Obama, who grew up without a dad and eschewed a cushy, six-figure legal gig to work as a community organizer on Chicago's posh South Side is really rich.

Also, I'm pretty sure Nooner's boy W. and his Poppy were both products of the America-hating Ivy League and that "normal Americans" don't read the Wall St. Journal or give a rip what she thinks about patriotism.

Why is all this actually not a distraction but a real issue? Because Americans have common sense and are bottom line. They think like this. If the president and his first lady are not loyal first to America and its interests, who will be? The president of France? But it's his job to love France, and protect its interests. If America's leaders don't love America tenderly, who will?

The Obamas hate America. They love France. They're unpatriotic, liberal Ivy League snobs. Is this all she's got? Really?

She's going to hear what those common sense, normal American think of her beloved GOP -- real soon

Peggy Noonan, Republicans Need Commonsense Advisor...

Yet another sign that the machine that Karl built is losing its bite. Noonan could have gotten away with this nonsense back in 2004, even as recently as 2006. It is a favored and historically reliable method to tar and feather GOP opponents as something they're not. But, as Machiavelli could have told Noonan, it isn't enough just to disgrace your opponents, you also have to deliver results to keep the common people happy. Name me one time this decade in which the Republicans have done that on a large scale.

Simply put, Noonan and her masters have gone to the well too many times. You can only cry "Wolf!" so much before people stop believing a thing you say. As the sheep in that original story could tell you, by then, it's too late. For the GOP, the time to stop Barack Obama may already be far, far too late.

This is just another case of reving up the Swift Boat Engines. We will have to put up with this junk until next November. It is truly amazing that there are probably thirty percent of potential voters who still believe faithfully in all these absurd stuff

I just want to say that I love this commentary...brilliant. Noonan's comments are pathetic. I've rarely been proud of my country either, and I don't want a president who is blindly patriotic, willfully smiling in the face of a tortured history. Thank you!

What is Noonan "proud of"...?

Apparently Noonan is proud of the genocide of native americans, slavery, lynching of blacks, historic opposition to working people and support of the worst dictators around the world, the undermining, overthrow and assasinations of populists and humanistic leaders everywhere?
She has made it clear she dearly loves the murderous fascistic path we're on, destruction of all human and civic rights, public infrastructure and support systems, the very enviroment that gives and sustains life on this planet.

How much longer is it going to take people to see that Obama and Clinton pit themselves against each other the same way rap artists do for record sales.

It's all a show people.

It doesn't matter which one of them wins.

There is no left and no right in America at the moment... hasn't been a fair system or election in many years.

Wake up and let's CHANGE of the corrupt ass system to what we all know would be better for EVERYONE.

All those years in the Reagan White House and hanging out with the Bushes must have convinced her that life is a level playing field and that African Americans who go to Ivy League schools should be grateful and not complain. Like Clarence Thomas, for instance.

He complained?!! How could I forget?

I can't wait to see who Obama puts on the Supreme Court!

When using a quote, shouldn't it be accurate?
Posted by: jrmart on Feb 23, 2008 2:05 PM
Current rating: 4    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
could it just be an innocent omission? or is it perhaps more than that.
so far i have read Mrs Obama's statement as a "quote" by several different criticizers. Each has quoted her as saying "for the first time in my adult life i am proud of my country"
Simply put, that is NOT what She said. What She said was "for the first time in my adult life i am REALLY proud of my country" Why do virtually ALL of her critisizers omit REALLY? Any debater will recognize that one word can totally change the meaning of any sentence. As an example: If someone said "i would NOT like to see him murdered" and it was "quoted" without the NOT, a false picture is created.
I think Ms Obama was careless in what she said. In this dog eat dog world we find ourselves in, one must be very careful.

Where is Peggy's column proclaiming boy george underestimated and Lincolnesque? Didn't she get the memo? All of the other water carriers are doing their part to prewrite history. The only thing better than having Obama make the rest of us proud again will be having such a dynamic, classy first lady! Peggy, you're going to have to quite talking down to the little people, we know where Michelle came from-and we know where you have been.

State of Denial
Posted by: beautifulady2003 on Feb 23, 2008 7:28 PM
Current rating: 5    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
Noonan must have been nipping, or smoking, or snorting, or just plain hurtin' for something, anything, to say against the Obamas. It's all the same ol' crap Bush bloviated in his campaign, that the only real Americans, people who "tenderly" love America, are those who have no criticisms of America's past mistakes. As an African American, Mrs. Obama can certainly look to America's past (and present) treatment of blacks with a degree of justified criticism. People who really love this country see it for what it is and for what it can be - they don't exist in a state of denial such as Noonan enjoys. What is more pathetic is that in that entire piece, Noonan had absolutely nothing to say and actually got paid for saying it.

Noonan is...

... just like Michelle Malkin, they are both Catholic versions(my religion, but not me) of Ann Coulter. Noonan and Malkin are perfect examples of the right wing hate machine, same as Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Tim Russert, Chris Matthews, Joe Scarborough, Scalia, Thomas, Roberts and Alito.

Right wing haters one and all and all of them unleashed by the Pope(s) and other Catholic fundamentalists and evangelical fundies. These bashers are fronting for the Pope(s) and his minions the Repub party. All of them are death for profits Republicans, political power Rethugs and 'Dominion and Domination' Catholics/papists. Just ask them exactly why the Pope(s) aligned themselves with Hitler and the Nazi Party. What did the Pope(s) expect to get out of that alignment, they expaected to get Dominion and Domination over peoples souls no matter who had to die, nor howmany; do we remember six million Jews etc.

For the Pope(s) and their fundie Catholics he ideology that consumes all fundie Catholics comes before anything and anyone else. Catholic ideology trumps all else, even human life.

And that is what they call pro-life and family values. These values cease to exist and are crushed before the engine of Catholic ideology. I grew up in that ideology but eschewed it when I graduated from Catholic high school and saw it for the killing machine that it was and has been for the past nearly two thousand years. Torture and death are long a staple of Catholic church history and politics. Whatever it cannot dominate and convert it tortures, crushes and kills.

The current and previous Pope(s) and their right wing fundie Catholis are living proof of that ideology of death and torture and the fact that it continues to this very day. The Spanish Inquisition is another example of that long history of death and torture for the sake of Catholic ideology.

These people constantly spew out hate toward everyone who is not them. Act or think differently and just watch what they are fully prepared to send your way, nothing short of torture and death is their stock in trade if hate does not deter. It is of little wonder that the Church once aligned itself with Hitler and the Nazis; and now it is just as fully aligned with Bush and the Rethugs. All of them are bullies who will stop at nothing. That is what the Pope has unleashed on all of us. He/they knew full well what they were doing with Hitler and the Nazis and now know full well what he/they are doing as aligned with Reagan, Bush and baby Bush and the Repubs.

If only the religious fundies, Catholic and evangelical and Islamic(Bin Laden and company) would just remove themselves to some deserted island and kill off each other before they kill off the entire world. Then the rest of us can get about the business of making the world a better place for everyone else' for those of us who do not endorse torture and death for the sake of ideology and political power and money.

The aforementioned are dangerous, and if that does not work they are deadly.

Obama is a mouthpiece for the CFR. Like so many, most likely caught up in the crossfire of all this massive, bureaucractic nightmare that is the US government/media/corporations today. Many, (NOT all), of our politicians can and are bought routinely bought out for special interests. Obama says "change" allot thus proving his inexperience or will to tackle some of Americas REAL problems. He is no different than the other rich, elitist, fake leaders that do not care about the American people, or the US Consitution.

Realize this fact too
Coke Bush

The revolution is on. Wake up to what has been and is still going on with our American mainstream media and their ability to keep us all uninformed, brainwashed, and shopping.

These globalist, neocon-type media faces like O'Rielly, Hannity, Kristol, and yes even Obama are all in bed with AIPAC, the U.N., overthrowing governements with the CIA, etc. and pretty much dominate American TV. They are all being mislead themselves or are part of it now aren't they?

If you want to see some REAL patriots look here

Wake up if you love American freedom and hate needless war for profit and/or overthrowing of governments and confusion of the masses by corrupt CIA and all the neocons!

This is what the media/government has done to us for too long. The internet and people rising up with the TRUTH after all these years of media lies is the only thing that can help America now. There is no left or right in America at this moment. Only corruptness and media lies so big that most can't see though it.

McCain is one of the WORST puppets out there!!! His top four contributors, (like most candidates, are... BANKS!

R E S E A R C H

Ron Paul’s military contributions are greater than those of all other current candidates – John McCain, Mike Huckabee, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama –combined.

The “Top Contributors” figures can be found at www.opensecrets.org.

JOIN the rEVOLution to restore America people.

IT IS DUTY.

When big media blocks Ron Paul out, it blocks YOU (and all your kids and family) out.

Why do you think they spew so much about "terrorists"?

Starting to get the picture now?

Forget Noonan: Witness a Wolf in Sheep's Clothing

Current rating: Not yet rated    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
I have said it before, and written it here: Be warned well in advance, Obama is a wolf in sheep's clothing.

The biggest corporations do not give their sweetest donations to a true "progressive" who promises to change the status quo and start the country along a path that empowers the small, the meek, the oppressed, the disadvantaged and the uninsured. The same corporations that ruin our country also buy people like Obama in order to control the next four and eight years of power-wielding puppets in Washington.

I happen to be old enough to know that Obama is not a new McGovern, who stood for peace unwaveringly, and genuinely. Yet, this campaign pretends that he is, without him ever taking a courageous stand on any issue that commits him to one specific path, and he has yet to address the single most important issue of our time in even the vaguest terms.

Obama is a product, like a bar of soap, sold to the gullible and inexperienced by the million. He is also a tool used by the powerful to sideline the Clinton and Edwards campaigns because those two threatened the true Status Quo of those power bases that occupy the Vice President's office today.

Only two things are possible from Obama: he bombs the general election and gives it to McCain, or he wins the White House and turns it over to the Power Elite a la Cheney through his VP choice, or directly. In either case, the millions who believe are about to be betrayed.

Remember that you were warned by the words of Thomas A. Nagy

Misplaced pride

Let's get past this fear of being called "insufficiently patriotic". This isn't Stalin's Soviet Union. When our political leaders make horrendously wrong decisions, it is the DUTY of patriots to speak up, to condemn those policies that are wrong. Anyone who doubts this needs to spend a little time reviewing the writings of America's founders. Our government has made a number of grotesquely wrong decisions in recent history. Are you proud of those decisions? Our (official) ideals are great. Beyond that, there has been precious little to feel proud about over the past quarter century. Should any American feel compelled to march in lockstep with the radical right, to avoid being labeled "unpatriotic"? How foolish, and how unpatriotic!
