In Maryland, six-term incumbent Al Wynn is facing a tough challenge from newcomer Donna Edwards. According to Edwards, Wynn has sold out to big business and the Bush agenda, including a vote for the war in Iraq and the 2005 energy bill. Wynn says his challenger is naïve and doesn't understand that there are choices in politics between compromise and doing nothing. Fueling candidates like Edwards are the foot soldiers of the progressive battle—bloggers and other political outsiders like, Matt Stoller of OpenLeft.com who are drumming up national support on the Internet. Maria Hinojosa speaks with the candidates and Matt Bai, author of "The Argument: Billionaires, Bloggers, and the Battle To Remake Democratic Politics."

Could this be one of the first volleys thrown across the bow to turn Congress upside down? I honestly don't think that clueless Washington has any idea how very, very angry the people "out here" are right now. I am looking for her site, I can't vote for her but I can sure send her a contribution to help her with her effort.

Thank you all of AlterNet for bringing our local election to the broader progressive community. This and the Nation reprint are great pub for Donna Edwards. It also helps people understand our home as a place where real people live as opposed to just being the place the government is at.

Even though I live in the 8th and not the 4th (you should Google Earth our districts to see the Gerrymandering) I've worked on her campaign. Our guy, VanHollen, is a progressive that has trouble "walking the walk" when it comes to taking leadership on the wars. Donna will help our Chris do the walking when she joins him in over at the House office buildings.

get Progressives elected and really take back the Senate and House. Harry and Nancy must go. We do not want Republican lite anymore. With Hillary and Obama in the top position, we will still have to have a majority to override vetos. Obama has said he wants to work with Republicans (bi-partisanship). That is exactly what has been happening. And look where it has gotten us? We need real Dems in full control to get anything done.

The incumbent saying that this young upstart just doesn't understand the negotiations needed to get things done in Washington!!! Ha! Boy, does he deserve to lose!

I hope that everyone remembers all of this when they go to the polls during the primaries to cast their votes for their Congressional representatives.

I hope each and every Democratic member of Congress that has caved in to Bush is given their pink slips and told they are no longer worthy of representing their constituents!

They are worse than the Elephants because they have rolled over on every major issue, and those of us who are able to should make sure they get a one-way ticket from Washington back to their home districts in December!

If we don't send them packing, Democracy is dead.

I'm moving to Norway.
