Would a President Obama Nominate John Edwards for Attorney General?

Posted by Jon Ponder, Pensito Review at 2:25 PM on January 27, 2008.

Rumor has it he would, but it could also just be Robert Novak making mischief.

This could just be Robert Novak making mischief:

Illinois Democrats close to Sen. Barack Obama are quietly passing the word that John Edwards would be named attorney general in an Obama administration.

Installation at the Justice Department of multimillionaire trial lawyer Edwards would please not only the union leaders supporting him for president, but organized labor in general. The unions relish the prospect of an unequivocal labor partisan as the nation's top legal officer.

It's considered bad luck, or maybe hubristic, for primary candidates to start naming cabinet officials so the Obama campaign has been mum about Novak's story.

Funny thing about this is, my friend and fellow political junkie, M. Tuttle, an Obama supporter, mentioned this possibility to me over lunch more than a month ago.

Is better than none. The time is drawing near for Edwards supporters to start thinking of plan b. While it is theoretically possible for Edwards to pull off a miracle finish that would make the Buffalo Bills comeback against the Houston Oilers look like a cakewalk, the odds are long. Until Edwards concedes (which may be during the convention) I will file this possible appointment away as wishful thinking. Edwards would kick ass and take names as A.G.

Why do journalists refer to John Edwards as a "multimillionaire" and never refer to the Bush billions when talking about the pseudo-cowboy president with the leased horses on the fake ranch?

Sounds good to me. I personally would prefer President, but in the position of Attorney General he could do a lot of good. It would also be a highly visible position, so he wouldn't fade into the woodwork.

It "elevates" Edwards while implying that Obama will be in a position to do the elevating.

Sort of siphons off a bit of enthusiasm from the Edwards' campaign, but surely that's just accidental.

I think it's a good idea. Restoring honor and integrity to that office after a long eight year absence of honor and integrity would be ideal. I feel Edwards is the man!

I think John would be a wonderful addition to a democratic presidential cabinet.

First of all, Novak is a proven liar and shite-stirrer. I don't believe a word he says.

That having been said, my first reaction to this was "why not vice president ?". Then I thought better of it. Even though we've seen a huge increase in power for the veep, courtesy of Darth Cheney, I think AG is a better fit.

Who better than Edwards to repair the damage from 8 years of a power mad "unitary executive"? Habeas Corpus would be restored and we'd certainly stand down from the domestic police state we've become.

Would it be possible for him to pursue criminal charges against Dubya,Darth and the whole Cabal ( including Alberto and Yoo ) ?

As my Appalachian Mama used to say, "I'd pay good cash money to see that !"

This Novack jabber is just part of the campaign to sqeeze John Edwards out of the race. The picture of the whole republican and media campaign to get Edwards to drop out is clearly written up by Leslie Savan in this mornings Huffington Post. Can you think of any other reason the corporate media has excluded Edwards all along even to now leaving him out of national polls where he comes out as the only one of the 3(which they keep trying to make the 2) who wins over all the republican candidates? Our beloved media is determned that we have no opportunity to vote foe John Edwards.

I think we can get "the spin" going that Obama is going to appoint Edwards as Attorney General. I'll put it out in today's column and let the little fish who's reading comprehension is beer can alcohol percentages to take it from there. Ha! We will have relegated his race to "I heard he withdrew and isn't running for President anymore, faster than Kasey Kahne on Opening Day at Talledaga. Joy! I tell you Joy!" Faux (?) monologue of Robert Novak.

Besides outing covert CIA operatives, destroying peoples' lives and dreams is what he lives to accomplish.

Can we afford to let one completely meglo-maniac destroy the public trust in the press?

NO. Do not buy into the hype.

JOHN EDWARDS IS IN THIS THROUGH TO THE CONVENTION!

Would Obama make as good an Attorney General as Edwards?

Obama is all about"change" and"accommodation"with the Repugnicans, while what is needed is stiff opposition. Edwards understands that and would play the game as it has turned out to be, not as he'd like it to be.
I see Edwards as a wide awake realist, not a dreamer! He has looked at the game as it is currently being played and said, "OK, if that's the way you want to play, I'll be glad to show you how well I can play".
Edwards has the fire in the belly, the passion it will take to turn this country away from its headlong rush into fascism. He knows corporations for the blood-sucking leeches they are and he knows them from "first-hand experience". If we are to regain control of our country, it will take someone unafraid to play hard ball, just as the Republicans have been doing for seven years.
I'm sure the Republicans would prefer an "accommodator" like Obama who sees the possibility to "compromise" in order to placate the ruffians on the right instead of Edwards, who would show them what it feels like to have the shoe on the other foot for a real "change".
Vote for "real change", vote for Edwards!
