Jon Stewart on Chris Matthews: "That Guy's Insane" [VIDEO]

Posted by Adam Howard, AlterNet at 12:44 PM on January 11, 2008.

Stewart, just like most Americans, is dumbfounded by Matthew's use of "Lawrence of Arabia" to contrast the campaigns of Hillary and Obama.

Last fall Chris Matthews appeared on the "Daily Show" to promote his book Life's A Campaign. During a painful interview, Stewart called the book "a recipe for sadness" and wildly disagreed with its contents for several minutes. Matthews in turn exclaimed, "This is the book interview from hell! This is the worst interview I've ever had in my life!" Last night on "The Daily Show" a writer-less Stewart played a clip of MSNBC's Matthews making Lawrence of Arabia metaphors to describe Hillary Clinton the night of the New Hampshire primary. He then mocked it with a metaphor of his own. Check out the video to your right for more.

Jon Stewart is a scab, as are the editors of AlterNet. By posting this video, you are disrespecting the men and women of the writers` guild, and are making it clear that there is nothing "alternative" about your quasi-leftist site.

Don't post video of shows crossing the picket line

I wouldn't say that Alternet is quasi-leftist, but I do think it's wrong to post video clips of a show that is scabbing during a strike. Until the strike ends, Alternet should refrain from linking to any shows that have, for lack of a better phrase, crossed the picket line.

Ironically, one of the main things writers are fighting for is payment for work they do that appears on the internet. Don't help the studio bosses by posting Stewart or Colbert while the writers are still on strike.

MSNBC needs to send Chris Matthews packing....all the way to Faux News. I'm sick of him and his big mouth.

Commercial Free

When this clip in question is seen without commercials and nobody makes a penny for each time it is viewed here, then its not too scabby in my book.

I think its great that people are talking about Stewart's scabbery but I don't think posting commercial free clips counts as digital strike breaking.

Visit the Daily Show website on the other hand and we have crossed the scab line. (I'm sorry I wont do it again.)

the only news available is Jon Stewart and Olbermann

sorry, the news must go on. The future of the country depends on at least some authentic news and commentary being available to the unwashed masses.

If you want to yell "Scab", then go over to Bill Orally's site, or any Faux news, or ABCCBSNBCCNNMSNBC.

We can't black out the only source of transparency there is over someone's money issue.

Maybe the strike is a subversive effort to ensure that only Tweety, Hannity and Orelly's voices are heard?

Everyone Unplug Your TVs

Am I to assume that by Leno, Conan, Stewart, etc., running their shows without writers, they are being scabs?

If that be the case, then by that logic every person who has been watching television since the writer's strike began, are scabs too.

The writer's strike has to do with the future, in that they are arguing for monetary compensation for their work which - because of the future growth of programming on the internet - will eventually expand exponentially, and they want it written now, that they will be compensated then. That's all fine and good.

But to accuse Alternet or John Stewart of being scabs because Alternet shows a clip of a writerless Stewart show seems to be a half-thought and borders on the ridiculous.

But also true. These gazillion pundits can always pull some fantasy out of their asses which doesn't have anything to do with anything, making analogies so far fetched as to provide rich fodder for comedians. These pundit clowns must dwell on Planet Stupid-- noisy bars in shopping malls attractive only to those avoiding adulthood.

The 08 election is still very much a crap shoot and a halfway intelligent person would make no predictions.

And lord save us from the excrutiatingly politically correct bellybutton lint gatherers.

Show of hands ...

Show of hands ... how many people think it was right for Reagan to fire all of the striking air traffic controllers?

Prior to this thread I would've thought, at a site like AlterNet, that there would be very few, if any, hands going up at all. Now, I'm not so sure.

My first impression was how NOT funny the joke was (I am not a Clinton fan by the way).

This is a great chance for everyone to see just how important the writers actually are. We think Jon Stewart is funny but it's obviously the wordsmiths who write him that way.

SETTLE THE WRITERS STRIKE AND NOW SO

we can properly get on with the comedy. I suspect that the "big media" corporations don't want a settlement. Big media is all republican. The humor is democratic and influences votes. Not settling the strike may in fact be intentional. The timing of the strike itself may have been influenced by big republican media. These guys do fit right up there with Pravda and Isvestia. They are mean and nasty and will do anything to win. Lest we forget there are no conspiracies.
