White Supremacist Leader Insists Ron Paul Is Racist

Well, don't say we didn't warn you about Ron Paul's friends.

Here's American National Socialist Workers Party leader Bill White, coming out big for Paul on the far-right Vanguard News Network site on December 20:

Comrades:

I have kept quiet about the Ron Paul campaign for a while, because I didn't see any need to say anything that would cause any trouble. However, reading the latest release from his campaign spokesman, I am compelled to tell the truth about Ron Paul's extensive involvement in white nationalism.

Both Congressman Paul and his aides regularly meet with members of the Stormfront set, American Renaissance, the Institute for Historic Review, and others at the Tara Thai restaurant in Arlington, Virginia, usually on Wednesdays. This is part of a dinner that was originally organized by Pat Buchanan, Sam Francis and Joe Sobran, and has since been mostly taken over by the Council of Conservative Citizens.

I have attended these dinners, seen Paul and his aides there, and been invited to his offices in Washington to discuss policy.

For his spokesman to call white racialism a "small ideology" and claim white activists are "wasting their money" trying to influence Paul is ridiculous. Paul is a white nationalist of the Stormfront type who has always kept his racial views and his views about world Judaism quiet because of his political position.

I don't know that it is necessarily good for Paul to "expose" this. However, he really is someone with extensive ties to white nationalism and for him to deny that in the belief he will be more respectable by denying it is outrageous -- and I hate seeing people in the press who denounce racialism merely because they think it is not fashionable.

Bill White, Commander
American National Socialist Workers Party

Obviously, this isn't what Paul's supporters want to hear. (The reactions from the VNN commentors ranged from "Some one ban this piece of shit for the no outing rule" to "I know alot of white supremacist involved in the Ron Paul campaign. I wish he would not shun away from his true supporters. I will stick with him till the ened but he shouldn't act like a typical politiician" to "This motherfucker needs a special bullet." Yes, the unique spelling is all their very own; follow the link above and read the threads for more holiday joy in this vein.) While White is hardly the most reliable reporter on any subject, his testament to Paul's racist credentials does tend to corroborate what Dave and I have been telling you all along: Paul's got longstanding connections to the looniest loonies on the loony right. You may not be able to hear the dog-whistle code in his speeches, but they sure as hell hear it loud and clear.

We've also been telling you that it's not just that Paul shows up for their events: he also takes their money. There's an old saying in politics that ya gotta dance with them what brung ya -- and guys like Bill White are the ones that brung Paul to Congress in the first place. On December 19, the day before White's helpful VNN endoresment, the AP caught Paul in mid-tango, this time with Stormfront.org founder Don Black:

Paul keeps donation from white supremacist
Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul has received a $500 campaign donation from a white supremacist, and the Texas congressman doesn't plan to return it, an aide said Wednesday.

Don Black, of West Palm Beach, recently made the donation, according to campaign filings. He runs a Web site called Stormfront with the motto, "White Pride World Wide." The site welcomes postings to the "Stormfront White Nationalist Community."

"Dr. Paul stands for freedom, peace, prosperity and inalienable rights. If someone with small ideologies happens to contribute money to Ron, thinking he can influence Ron in any way, he's wasted his money," Paul spokesman Jesse Benton said. "Ron is going to take the money and try to spread the message of freedom."

"And that's $500 less that this guy has to do whatever it is that he does," Benton added.

Black said he supports Paul's stance on ending the war in Iraq, securing U.S. borders and his opposition to amnesty for illegal immigrants.

"We know that he's not a white nationalist. He says he isn't and we believe him, but on the issues, there's only one choice," Black said Wednesday. "We like his stand on tight borders and opposition to a police state," Black told The Palm Beach Post earlier.

On his Web site, Black says he has been involved in "the White patriot movement for 30 years."

Evidently, when it comes to Paul's status as a white nationalist, Mr. Black and Mr. White need to get their stories straight. But anyone on the left who continues to deny that Paul has maintained long, significant, and productive relationships with racists and anti-democratic "patriots" is, at this point, living in a denial zone worthy of Donald Rumsfeld.

An update, courtesy of Brad DeLong, for the benefit of visiting commenters who are even now tuning up for another chorus of "It's not like he's a racist or anything...":

If this story is corroborated, I would hope it would be game over for Paul -- no reasonable person should support him if his staff is coordinating in any way at all with the Nazis at Vanguard.

That coordination would be the connective tissue that would validate all the focus on Paul's white supremacist support.

At the same time, I saw the story last week and decided not to write about it yet because of the source -- a single Nazi scumbag. I can imagine a number of reasons a Nazi scumbag could have for making the statement: trying to mainstream his sick ideology; tying his horse to Paul's wagon; getting media attention for himself, etc.

So I think that, given the seriousness of the charge, a corroborating source of some kind -- even if it's just a waitress in the diner where they supposedly met -- is needed.

The Ron Paul Vid-Lash

By Virginia Heffernan

Editors’ Note: The post below, which appeared on The Medium on Monday, contained several errors. Stormfront, which describes itself as a “white nationalist” Internet community, did not give money to Ron Paul’s presidential campaign; according to Jesse Benton, a spokesman for Paul’s campaign, it was Don Black, the founder of Stormfront, who donated $500 to Paul. The post also repeated a string of assertions by Bill White, the commander of the American National Socialist Workers Party, including the allegation that Paul meets regularly “with members of the Stormfront set, American Renaissance, the Institute for Historic Review and others” at a restaurant in Arlington, Va. Paul never attended these dinners, according to Benton, who also says that Paul has never knowingly met Bill White. Norman Singleton, a congressional aide in Paul’s office, says that he met Bill White at a dinner gathering of conservatives several years ago, after which Singleton expressed his indignation at the views espoused by White to the organizer of the dinner. The post should not have been published with these unverified assertions and without any response from Paul.

Now if you will go read the articles below you will learn more about the idiotic episode, and see how they are trying to slander an honest man who has been in office for over 10 years with NO scandals. Scary thought..an honest man. He has my vote. Now stop spreading lies without researching what you write..it takes away your credibility.

Why not? And Ron Paul is so far to the right that he can't even turn left at an intersection. Ron Paul fancies himself a sort of Libertarian. Actually he is the kind of Libertarian that is a cover for being a Feudalist.

His and George W. Bush's vision of an ownership society is one where the few, the elite, the rich own everything else and everyone else. Wake up!!

They all hate democracy, fair play and equality, every last one of them.

for there to be no fire.

Where was Paul's outrage at the support of white supremacists? There was none - he said he'd spend the money. What about his newsletter? You know, the one he won't let us see and now claims he didn't write. Why hasn't he supported civil rights legislation? Why has he spent so much time on the radio with these psychoes?

Paul has a couple of good issues - and he has spent the rest of his time trying to obscure most of his agenda.

I live in Houston - Paul's district is pretty close. I have heard the psychotic drivel spouted by this fascist since he first ran for office. Only the craziest of his supporters (and those of us who have kept up with him from day one) have any idea how loony tunes this psychotic asshole is - and that's why they are his supporters. The rest hear some softball questions and some pretty words about the constitution (which he reads a lot differently that 99% of us here) and think "This guy supports freedom and liberty. How can that be bad?"

It ain't your freedom he's talking about, that's why. It's unchecked, unregulated corporate fascism. It's no worker protection of any kind - including a minimum wage, no consumer protection of any kind (get used to salmonella and lead toys) and a government we would not recognize. I don't mean that in a good way. Think Latin America, in the 70s.

Where ELSE was all that internet money and rabid support coming from if NOT the Neo-Nazis (as opposed to the original Nazis, the GOP.)

I think it's hilarious how the movement has shot itself in the foot by outing Paul this way, but not much of a surprise, since Nazism of BOTH kinds (Overt Neo-Nazi and Covert GOP) has always been suicidal.

And damn dumb about it as well.

With all the dirt being slung about all of the candidates the worst thing I've read about Ron Paul is that someone of questionable character donated 500.00 and he thinks evolution is a theory. Sounds like the absolute best person running in decades. I do want to thank these nit picking writers for keeping Dr. Pauls name in the news. I wonder does he floss after each meal or just before bed, maybe those aren't even his real teeth.

I can believe that Paul is privately a neo-nazi sympathizer and apologist. This is not unusual in the deep south where various types of fascist ideology are more mainstreamed into the general political culture than they are up in the North. Paul's political agenda and personal belief system dovetails perfectly with White Supremacist ideology.

We need to understand that the Oligarch that run this world are presenting us with a lot of red herring.First time I heard of Ron Paul he was a Libertarian. That Party was launched to help confuse us more by a guy named William Simon, an ex Secretary of the Treasury. His favorite reading material came from the mind of one Ayn Rand whose non-fiction manifesto "The Virtue of Selfishness" ought to be primary feed for all would be members of the new Masters. Not much about race, sex or ethnicity here; just pure superiority through Capitalism.
Then there is one of her proteges' named Robert Ringer who wrote such humanitarian books such as "Winning Through Intimidation" and "Looking Out For Number 1"; both of which made it to the top of the NYT charts. Read these and you'll probably get a better idea of where Mr. Paul is coming from. Meantime, if you care anything about this country and our fellow humans all over this exploited world, check into ...Draftnader.org

Obviously you're a very sloppy author to use a long debunked smear such as this against one of the most honorable men in congress. The other option is you are remarkably malevolent and deceitful.

The story has been retracted already by the NY Times. If you're not going to do any real writing and instead just copy and paste stuff, at least keep up with the work that you are stealing.

Here you can read about Ron Paul's praise for famous jew Milton Friedman: http://www.lewrockwell.com/paul/paul352.html

Ron Paul eats his lunch everyday in congress in his office under the picture of another famous jew, Ludwig Von Mises.

Are you proud of spreading such slander about an honest man?

Utterly opposed to any form of division, whether it be through skin colour, ethnic background or religion, as an English 'outsider' on this campaign I have to say that I am appalled by the dirty tricks levelled against the one man who seems to be speaking the truth.

In America you have 'Bill White' who claims American White supremacy. Here, in England, we have the thugs of the British National Party (BNP). As soon as someone takes a stand on behalf of all their country stands for (in America's case - freedom! In Britain's case - wonderful traditions!) these thugs latch onto them. This has nothing to do with race. Nothing to do with religion or background. Who gives damn for what 'Bill White' (not a very clever pseudonym) thinks? Trivia like this shouldn't be allowed to stand in the way of a man who is the hope of democracy throughout the world!!

I once was effectuated with Ron Paul. All his young supporters compared to us old activists who have been protesting since the ‘60's.

But I began to wonder about banks charging interest on money getting printed. And began to worry about whether the country can afford Kisinich's and Edwards social programs.

This country improved when slavery was abolished, woman got the vote and Roosevelt started the New Deal

Recently Bill Clinton was good on cultural issues but attacked the unions and cut programs for the poor. Many women and even Blacks who weren’t in the unions or poverty stricken didn’t notice because they liked Clinton

Before that was the Reagan Revolution, where Reagan got previously very progressive Catholics and Jews to be far less so. Radical Catholics and Jews became the minority.

Now with Ron Paul the new anti-war activists are less interested in poverty issue than the peace movement of the 60's.

Nixon did horrorable things, but Reagan’s changes stuck around.

However, those who live by the sword die by the sword. Joining in smearing Ron Paul makes it far easier for us to be smeared. If we don’t join the condemning of Fox News for kicking Paul out of the Presdential debate. Foxie non news will be free to do a lot more harm.

Demand of Ron Paul Supporter that they give at least as much money to the poor as they do to Ron Paul. If Ron Paul had his way all government programs would be eliminated. But don't attack him for the wrong reasons. We can only hurt ourselves more in the long run.

Come on guys:

This ain't Fox News

Alternet can do better than this. Someone is a republican so the facts don't matter and it's time for a little character assassination. It doesn’t matter that this man is probably our best hope to end this war. This is war that is killing mostly people of color so that corporations can stay in the black. Go ahead back Hillary and our troops will be in Iraq for another 8 years.

Any one can make a mistake but when someone’s character and good name is to be trashed care should be taken and sources should be checked and checked again. Alternet can do better.

I'm surprised to see my chalk pictures show up anywhere. Anyone interested in seeing the rest, they can be found on my flickr page. I did about thirty of them over all.

The most hilarious thing is that only a few hours later a somewhat longwinded reply was written in chalk next to it. I'd have taken my box of Freedom Chalk out to the streets again, but something disturbs me about the level of political discourse in our country falling to that level.

Bill White--while no doubt a racist--is on the outskirts of the white supremacist movement and is hated by much of the movement. He has a reputation for publicity stunts and making outlandish claims, few in the movement take him serious and its hard even for anti-racists to take him particularly serious. He split the National Socialist Movement (NSM) in 2006--one of the largest organizations on the racist right--and formed a new group that has few members. At a "national action" held here in Michigan, there were two members.

That said, the left shouldn't discount Paul's links to organized racism. The Stormfront, see:
