Secret Service: Sarah Palin's Rhetoric Led to Spike in Death Threats Against Obama

The Telegraph:

Sarah Palin's attacks on Barack Obama's patriotism provoked a spike in death threats against the future president, Secret Service agents revealed during the final weeks of the campaign.

The attacks provoked a near lynch mob atmosphere at her rallies, with supporters yelling "terrorist" and "kill him" until the McCain campaign ordered her to tone down the rhetoric.

But it has now emerged that her demagogic tone may have unintentionally encouraged white supremacists to go even further.

The Secret Service warned the Obama family in mid October that they had seen a dramatic increase in the number of threats against the Democratic candidate, coinciding with Mrs Palin's attacks.

Michelle Obama, the future First Lady, was so upset that she turned to her friend and campaign adviser Valerie Jarrett and said: "Why would they try to make people hate us?"

Because they're assholes, Michelle. They're assholes who had nothing else on which to run.

Details of the spike in threats to Mr Obama come as a report last week by security and intelligence analysts Stratfor, warned that he is a high risk target for racist gunmen. It concluded: "Two plots to assassinate Obama were broken up during the campaign season, and several more remain under investigation. We would expect federal authorities to uncover many more plots to attack the president that have been hatched by white supremacist ideologues."

Aren't you charmed by Palin? I know I am.

"Poison Palin needs to be shoved buck under the muck she was dredged up out of and buried so deep in the mud she can never be dredged back up again. She's an evil human animal and needs to be removed from holding ANY political office ever again.

I don't know what it is about Barack--about all of the Obamas. Apart even from his fine mind and his unique abilities, and the understanding I have that he'll be the finest President in my lifetime--besides all that, I'm just gaga about all of them. Michelle, Sasha, Malia, Barack--it's almost like I know them, know them well enough to feel this LOVE for them.

I'm sure it sounds silly to you, but I'm not nuts, at least not intervention-worthy (so far), and in fact I've been pretty cynical and disdainful of politicians my whole life, for good reason. I just don't think of them as human beings like me. But when it comes to the Obamas, I'm a real softie.

In an interview a while back, Barack and Michelle said that they had discussed with the girls the possibility that something could happen to their dad because he was President.

That was sad enough. This I can't even hold in my consciousness.

Thank God the skinhead types are known for their room-temperature IQ's as much as their swastika tattoos, and they tend to brag, swagger and piss in public.

I'm supposed to say something evil about Palin here, right? I have no words.

I have a close friend who was detailed to McCain. He had said the death threats to Palin were coming in every day.

Can anyone think that in this country, which protects the rights of KKK and skin heads that the first Black President isn't more of a risk than others?

Both Palin and Obama are polarizing figures, for different reasons. The both have had their share of death threats.. Obama get SS protection, Palin doesn't. Who's at risk?

Don't blame Christians, or Christianity.

There are over two hundred million Christians in this country. I'm one of them.

There are hundreds, actually thousands of ways to worship Christ, and the vast majority of Christians go to church to relate to God in her infinite mysteries, and in so doing live more outward-looking lives, striving to emulate the loving principles of peace, charity, faith and hope.

To some extent, all organized religion is man's construct, and the flaws lie not in any particular denomination. No church is founded on the premise of god-sponsored ambition. But there are some people who worship in the name of Christ, but are really in a narcissistic exercise motivated by their deep personal needs to impose order, control the uncontrollable and manage their fears. Sometimes, when you mix those motivations with a little false pride, you get a Sarah Palin, who thinks she's God's Secret Messenger, chosen to bring the world out of darkness, into the light.

Nowhere in any scripture or teachings can a Christian justify such a thing. Please understand that what Palin is up to has nothing at all to do with Christianity. It's just her window dressing and the theme of her stage set.

This is the absolute sickness that the Republics have orchestrated...

and it all began with Lee Atwater.

He was the first person to come up with the notion of "Politics is War." That has led to the polarity we have seen displayed in this election cycle. It's the politics that George Bush has practiced for the past 8 years. It's the take-no-prisoners, you're-either-with-us-or-against-us, Democrats-are-the-Enemy, win-at-all-costs, no-holds-barred, the-only-way-to-win-is-to-destroy, politics-of-personal-destruction type of campaigns that have been run since Reagan. Karl Rove thought he had this down to a science. And it worked for 8 years. They were all just too stupid to realize that the American people would get sick and tired of it.

This is a politics of sociopathy. Tell me of one instance of the Republics pulling punches? Of them behaving humanely? They have morphed into the party of the most base instincts of humans, "kill or be killed" mentality. They have no compassion. They are sick. And they have followers who are also sick. They have chosen to pander to the fear and loathing in the hearts of some ignorant Americans, and they made these people their "base." So, when Sarah Palin whips the crowds into a frenzy, they think it's just "politics as usual." And, more importantly, they don't care about the ramifications of what could ensue due to their own rhetoric. They are the very worst kind of demagogues. They are only after power, and not JUST power, but power that also destroys the opposition permanently. That is the basis for Rove's "Permanent Republican Majority."

What kind of person (or party) could hear people in the crowd shout "Kill him!" or "terrorist!" and not bat an eye? Not only would she not dissuade them, she would encourage them. It's sick and twisted! And because she put herself out there before her adoring crowds spewing the kind of hatred evidenced in every last one of her speeches, and she LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF THE SPOTLIGHT, I do not feel sorry for her now when she is being thrown to the wolves by her own! (Ironic, no?)

It all started with Lee Atwater. And this is a result of that long-term strategy. It has pulled our nation apart. It has been more polarizing than most of us can believe. And it has led to their own demise.

Not a moment too soon.

...that has to worry about right wing extremists threatening assassination against its elected leaders.

The director of Israel's domestic security service told a cabinet meeting Sunday that he is "very concerned" that Jewish extremists could attempt to assassinate Israeli leaders who seek peace with the Palestinians, according to meeting participants.

I made a comment earlier about Plain and i would like to add a couple comments about how the thread progressed/digressed (based upon your point of view) in regards to religious beliefs.

I find it interesting that the Christian membership increased from 200 million to one quarter of a billion in just two posts. Man, that is some grassroots proselytising!

On a serious note:

I have been exposed to many people of many different religious beliefs. I have had the pleasure and opportunity to travel to over 100 countries in my life and live in 5. Total out of country time is over 1/2 my life. (And I am an old fart) ;)

The ONLY place that I have been condemned to hell by a man who asked me if I had accepted Christ as my Lord and Saviour (before I could respond - he had decided that I must not be Christian) was by an overzealous fanatic in Hawaii. On the entire planet!

I have met with a wonderful Russian Orthodox Priest in Eastern Russia who honoured my work with indigenous peoples and said he would always offer prayers for me from that day on - and I know he has. I have met with Buddhist Priests in Vietnam during the Vietnam war who thanked me for saving the life of an enemy because I cannot just let a man die. I met an Imam in Singapore who gifted me the Quran and taught me the Islamic way to pray. Never was I judged by any of these people.

Only in America.

Why the story? I attended a major University in Provo, Utah on a scholarship in springboard diving and since I was not able to pay all of my scholastic needs I accepted the grant and was constantly barraged with attempts to convert me to their unique brand of Christendom.

I walked away from a 4 yr. full ride scholarship because i respected myself spiritually more than they did. I have lived within my own relationship with God, G_D, Allah, Jehovah and Joshua Bar Joseph Cohen of Nazareth ever since.

And I think this is the crux of the matter - at least for me - it is about spiritual respect.

I have come to the conclusion that no one really knows - but many are deluded to believe that they know - who is right or wrong (if there is a wrong in one's personal spiritual relationship). Not one of us was there for any of these past events and all records have been modified to fit the agenda of the perpetrators of guilt and mob contrrol - So, we do not know.

But I do know this it is not my place to judge anything unless I have all of the facts. If I do, I am living in my own prejudices.

Sarah Plain is not the way she is because of an anti-witch doctor preacher or the Bible or snowmobiling or hunting wolves from an airplane.

She is who she is because she chooses to be this woman.

And because of this I do not blame her religion - I hold her accountable for the hate that she has helped foment.

Period.

Cheers

McCain's Comments Considered Credible?

McCain, AND, Palin consistently made statements that were ugly, hurtful, hollow, patently untrue, not to mention STUPID. So, why would ANYTHING either of them said be taken seriously now. McCain exhibited a false, ugly persona with a dark and hollow soul. Sarah Palin was bereft of even that. They both should be too embarrassed to show their faces in public.

Why are we suprised the GOP has been running on a platform of basic hated since 1965. The no so covert hated of black folks has been a staple in thier play book. Anti abortion, anti women's rights, anti gay, anti union. What do they stand for? more guns, the right to control what one does in the bed room, the right to unbridled greed in the market place, and larger goverment if it benefits corporations. In many ways the worse of human nature. The GOP at the end of the day has abandoned the basic conservative creed: small goverment, lower taxes, personal freedom.Perhaps they couldn't win by sticking to these; so like John Mccain they took a walk to the dark side and took America with them.

Thank GOd they didn't win. I saw so much hatred through the last weeks of their campaign that this was awful. Had anything happened to Obama the republican party would have been guilty of assination by their words and actions. The change has done started to unfold in my state. Gas prices are already started to go down. As matter of fact to 1.98 gal. Makes me wonder if my state who is considered rep. was in on the gas gouging. Oh well we will see, I have been told that interest rates will be dropping down to either 1.50 or 2.00 per cent in the next coming months. That should help alot of the homeowners and get the house economy back in swing. So all you who want to refi. or buy just wait till after Dec. so you can get the best interest rate.

Palin SHOULD have been stopped from spreading her moronic drivel immediately. She KNEW she was stirring up hatred--that's why she did it. Her ticket was morally bankrupt & resorted to this crass hatred & scare tactics--it's an outrage!
This woman has nothing going for her but her looks--in every other way she's lacking. I would not even vote for her for PTA president because she's too nasty. Nasty is never good in leadership--look at the last 8 yrs.
If SHE is "the hope of the republicans"--I feel sorry for them--because they'll lose--AGAIN!

...at least in the GOP lexicon, at the moment.
Because she was leapfrogged over so many other suitable candidates and granted national and international exposure she has, by default become the GOP "Saviour".
She has the bullet points (no pun intended!)
1) female
2) married, multiple kids
3) Retard baby
4) Big time NRA booster
5) Extreme anti-abortion
6) Extreme abstinence only advocate
7) Extreme Fundamentalist
8) Bible Literalist/anti Evolution

Suddenly, all the grumpy old white men (Guiliani, Romney, Huckabee, etc) are '08 models left in the showroom, The Palin AK deluxe is the '09 that all the mouth breathers want.

Her options are multiple, she could stand for, and win the vacated Steven's seat, or wait for the mid-terms to give herself the inside track from within the Administration to run in 2012, her one major weakness appears to be an elevated opinion of her own abilities and grasp of issues, but a 2 to 4 year intensive campaign to educate her could pay dividends, if she will accept input from established Washington insider, we shall see.

Religion is one thing; spirituality is quite another. One thing is pretty obvious, though, no matter what your faith or religious practices: no true religion would advocate the use of the hateful smear tactics employed by this woman in her speeches, and it appears from "insider" reports that she did this on her own. Come on, Alaska, vote her out of office, and get rid of Ted Stevens; you already know he's corrupt. Then he'll sing you a little song about Sarah.

indicated earlier that they will have to provide more protection to the Obama family than normally needed during the campaign. It's not unreasonable to assume that this will continue during Mr. Obama's presidency. You have to know that there are some people who don't like the idea of having an African American president. However, it sure beats the idea of having Sara Palin as vice president! She is such a dufus!

The actual reasons for right-wing hatred are that people with wealth are really afraid to lose the power they think their possessions give them.

They are absolutely consumed by fear of strangers.

In fact, they are afraid of their own shadows.

It's a wonder they can even function in daily life while having so many phobias.

Politicians are using and abusing their well-known fears to get elected. They are absolute masters of using religion and class-consciousness to further their own careers at the top of society.

Inciting to assassinate a crime?
Posted by: monkeywrench on Nov 10, 2008 8:49 PM
Current rating: Not yet rated    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
Knowing, as Sarah Palin must know, the recent history of the U.S., the assassinations of both John and Robert Kennedy and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., that she (and by inference John McCain, her boss) would take the tack of inciting white supremacists to the point of possible murder should show to the whole world just how barren are the hearts of these two – and, again by inference, those in the party who support them.

It is a pity that inciting to assassinate is not considered a crime as is inciting to riot; frankly, I don't see that there's much of a difference. By her words, Sarah Palin should not be welcome in civil company, and should not be allowed to clutter up the media with appearance after appearance as she still is doing after the election; but, quite possibly, should be on her way to jail. We must, MUST, put a stop to this type of irresponsible public behavior if we intend to remain a civilized society. We have been sliding down this slippery slope for too many years, and we certainly do not need a self-centered imbecile like Palin to grease the slope.

BTW, did you realize $150,000 is the clothing budget of the average American family FOR EIGHTY YEARS!
