The Wall Street Journal reports today that inside the McCain campaign, there's division over the bloodthirsty tactics.

Top McCain campaign officials are grappling with how far to go with negative attacks on Sen. Barack Obama in the final weeks of what is turning into a come-from-behind effort.

Sen. John McCain has allowed a series of increasingly harsh broadsides in new campaign ads and in speeches by his wife, Cindy, and his running mate, Gov. Sarah Palin. But the Arizona Republican has rejected pleas from some advisers to launch attacks focusing on Sen. Obama's former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

Some McCain campaign officials are becoming concerned about the hostility that attacks against Sen. Obama are whipping up among Republican supporters.

The article didn't elaborate on the nature of the campaign aides' "concerns," and I'm curious to hear more about them. Are campaign officials concerned because they're relying exclusively on hate, fear, and ignorance? Are they concerned because the campaign's irresponsible tactics might drive their enraged supporters to do something dangerous? Or are they concerned that McCain's disgraceful conduct won't help turn the polls around?

Two other quick angles to consider. First, the article says McCain has sworn off playing the Jeremiah Wright card, fearful of appearing racist. If McCain doesn't narrow the gap against Obama quickly, I'm guessing he drops his reluctance and goes after Wright by the middle of next week. (Anyone want to lay odds on that?)

And second, I can't help but wonder how much this "internal dissent" is for show, as if the sleaze is more palatable if the public is led to believe some that even some of McCain's own staffers aren't comfortable with it.

If there are honorable people still working for the Republican campaign -- a dubious proposition, to be sure -- they can talk on the record about their discomfort, they can resign, or they can keep helping this disgraceful ticket. This "officials are becoming concerned" stuff isn't going to change anything.

For those new here, or unware, the trolls from the 'other' side of truth who often show up usually have one thing in mind: sowing confusion and misinformation in an attempt to distract and throw you off your game. They have a need to feel they're contributing to their 'cause'; doing something constructive - to their minds at least.

The thing is, you're far too often falling for their ruse - maybe because it's so obvious you don't notice it - and fencing with these unfortunates. The current "Karl Ben" is a good example of these types (be aware that many of them are past pests under a new handle - they've mastered that 'subtle trick' to throw us off).

Regardless, they are dangerous because, though every sign is Obama will win in a walk, you can't ever forget what your current mob of righties-in-power are capable of. If you get an "October/November suprise", or they simply cheat - something they seem to have no moral difficulty with - you'll need everthing you've got if you are to prevail.

So, I suggest you simply not engage these misguided ones. There are new visitors to Alternet every day, and some just might be naive or gullible enough to be taken in - you really can't afford that. Simply identify the interlopers in the subject line, tell them goodbye and don't interact with them any more. I've found they're much like children: won't stay around long if they're not getting attention...after they've thrown one or two temper-tantrums of course.

Ignore them - the small stuff - and move on to what's important: dragging your country back from the brink.

Cheers.

If they stoop that low, the McStain campaign is afraid that someone will make a national ad of the footage of Palin's looney witch doctor "laying hands" on ms. sarah (yuck) - and further talk about hubby's (and her) association with virulent America haters, the Alaska Independence movement - AND the nuts who run her "church", the one that the national Assemblies of God calls "heretical".

I realize that the Obama campaign are trying to be adults (difficult when you are running against angry children) but when the kiddies start firing live ammo, you have to fire back in overwhelming numbers.

I say let them play the Wright and Race Cards

I hope those racist conservative trolls and Mc Cain/Palin supporters watch "The Spook Who Sat By The Door". If they want America to look like Belfast and Serbia then keep playing those racist cards, African- Americans (esp Males) are tired of conservatives pushing us around and if they think after this election there will be American unity amongst Blacks and others if Obama wins or loses they are dreaming.

Nor will there be riots in the projects or in Black America if the GOP wins there will have a silent black revolution with more calls for racial separation but not from the usual Black Radical leaders it will be people like me and other blacks in the racial middle who just wanted to be left alone. So please keep the race hate coming Mc Cain and the white trash dream of a race war may happen but none of us will like the results.

P.S. There are no RFK, MLK, Black and White Leaders of moral standing who will be able to put the pieces back together. Palin, Mc Cain and Fox News are playing with fire and If true White Conservatives or Liberal allies can't tell these people they are causing permanment damage in this country then you get the country you deserve.

This is a complete capitulation to reach the same morons that Karl Rove denegrated as responding to the "gay marriage" tactics. If 25% of the Republican Party weren't complete God-guns-gays idiots it wouldn't be working even with the %% he is getting. But as it is now, McCain is losing ALL but those voters - I've heard from many "intelligent" Republicans who can't stand what they are seeing! and I'm in PA!

Can you spell demagoguery

Consider the personality type of a demagogue and compare that to McCain or Palin. With the fear our society has now with the financial debacle, the hate of the immigrants, for a demagogue to come along and play those fears and hate together in a political campaign makes me wonder if Democracy is really the best alternative.

stirred up by these people caused someone to destroy the Obama sign in my front yard Saturday night. They pulled them up from the lawn, tore them into pieces, and dumped them in the middle of the driveway.

I really don't care if I ever have another republican friend again.
