So, ok, clearly Obama won again. We don't even need to see the polls to know that. He comes across as president already, while John McCain comes across as an angry doddering old man.

Here's what I don't understand. Essentially McCain made the same sort of mistakes he made last time. Not friendly enough, not calm, awful body language and so on. Not a statesman. Not a reassuring elder who's seen it all and who can be trusted to deal with it now.

I don't believe that his handlers don't know this. I don't believe they didn't know this after the first debate. It was dead clear. So, does John McCain not know this? Are they not able to tell it to him? Does he not listen? Why do they not have someone coaching him? Ditch some campaign appearances and spend hours working on his body language, his voice tone and give him answers that are statesmanlike.

Or is John "Maverick" McCain too angry to listen? Too frazzled, too tired, too unable to make a change from a game plan that clearly isn't working. Is it the campaign? Or is it him?

Either way, it's actually kind of sad. What I see in John McCain is an old tired man whose anger doesn't just come from being behind but from having worked beyond capacity for too long. He doesn't have Obama's stamina, nor does he have the sense Obama had in taking a week's holiday to recharge. The best thing that the McCain campaign could do now is to come up with some reason to give him the better part of 3 days off. Let Palin campaign for him, she pretty much does anyway. Let him recover.

I doubt it would matter to the end result, but at least we might not be treated to Obama coolly dismantling what amounts to a punch-drunk McCain who can neither think nor speak straight.

... given that so many conservative voters cannot think straight themselves (you should hear them here in deep red Lubbock fawning and slobbering over Sarah Palin, who at least looks alive), what's the difference? McCain could be dead and mummified, and they still couldn't tell.

That about sums it up. He needs to quit first thing in the morning. Just quit. Resign. Drop out of the race. Suspend the campaign permanently.

He's become a pathetic figure.

Seats instead of lecterns?

Wonder whose idea that was?

Perhaps the McSame apparatchiks thought it wise not to have him stand/lean for so long and reinforce the image of the cranky old geezer leaning over his picket fence shouting "get off my property!"

In any case it backfired, big time as Obama sat relaxed with his legs stretched out whilst McSame, sat briefly to scribble notes then paced restlessly, all around the stage - I wondered if he had a bladder problem...

The whole setup played into reinforcing the contrast between the young, vital and relaxed Obama with the elderly, curmudgeonly and often grasping for words McCain.

The Walking disaster Area,
McNasty wants to be President.
You there, you better get out of my way
Or I'll blast you with some exhaust.
He wanted to a Jet Jockey too.
When he crashed the first Jet his ticket should have been pulled.
But, oh NO!
The Admirals son continued his spree.
Dear John,
You're a nasty old fart. I'm choosing a younger and smarter man. You look like the Cript Keeper! Give us a break and retire before you croak. I thought they broke the mold with G. W 4 WRONG Bush.
We need the top of the class instead of the bottom of the Barrel.
Twenty six years in the Senate and now you're going to change things?
Too little and Too late.
You're part of the problem!

I don't think this loss will make McCain throw in the towel. We can't declare his campaign dead yet. I think it will make him more desperate. The attacks and mud slinging will escalate and his campaign will get even uglier.

Over at CNN's ireports there's some guy spreading stuff about Obama saying he was born in Kenya. Another is proclaiming him the anti christ. Palin is stirring up the republican drones to violent excitement.

And there is the Bush factor. Many people wrongly believe McCain is strong on foreign policy. If Bush can come up with something to draw attention from the economy Obama's support will slip.

STILL TOO EARLY TO DECLARE VICTORY

Admittedly McCain looks bad, but alot can happen in a few weeks. Obama has a nice lead across the board, but we have to "keep the powder dry". It ain't over 'til it's over. I think it's called cautiously optomisitc. Thanks, ANNA

best headline? "My Friends...It's Over!" Your article covers it except let's not forget JM had to suspend his campaign to show up for his day job recently to get in the way of the bailout negotiations. He hadn't been in the senate since April! He takes weekends OFF campaigning & he usually only does ONE event per day! I thought W made POTUS a part time Job!

John McCain took a month off, not a week, and went to Mexico, Columbia, and Brazil after he won the nomination in the Republican primaries. He does not campaign on weekends, and he seldom campaigns in the evenings. These things have all been noted in the press. The problem is that he is on multiple medications for a variety of undisclosed illnesses, including possibly cancer that has spread, as well as the prolonged after-effects of a year or so of torture and poor health care. PTSD is not only mentally devastating, but physically stressful as well, and you are seeing the results before your very eyes. He is also a 72 year old man who has spent his entire life indulging every depravity or excess that crossed his path - alcohol, gambling, womanizing, violent attacks on others, inciting others to violence against those who oppose him - and that in many ways is like the story of Dorian Gray whose portrait did not show his true self, until he confronted it, and died.

We are seeing this now come to pass in front of our very eyes, and it is scary and dangerous! This man is not only too tired to act as President, he is too deranged. He will not be able to take evenings and weekends off if he is elected. He will not be able to take carefree vacations if there is a crisis. He will not be able to get angry and hit others or plan assassinations of those he does not approve of while president. He is not fit, his choice of VP is both reckless and irresponsible, not to mention dangerous if he does decide to take vacations or weekends off during a crisis, leaving her in charge.

This man is old and ill. Take pity on him, and send him back to the Senate for the next few years, then ARIZONA, VOTE HIM INTO RETIREMENT ONCE AND FOR ALL!!!!

It might be "actually kind of sad", but with four weeks to the election, this is no time to let up in the least. McCain is pathetic at this time and should never have accepted the nomination. He brought up again that Barack would negotiate with Iran "without preconditions". Barack gave a complete and sensible answer to this in both debates, yet this did not even register with McCain. He must know that it would be impossible to negotiate without full diplomatic preparation, especially with a new administration.
