Joe Biden: Experience With a Big Heart Is a Winning Combo

Posted by Christy Hardin Smith, Firedoglake at 11:14 PM on October 2, 2008.

Looks like CBS' undecideds poll agrees: Biden -- 46%, Palin 21%.

This moment, when Joe Biden talked about being a single parent unsure whether his sons would make it after his wife and daughter were tragically killed in a car accident?

Most real thing I've seen in politics in a long, long time.

When Biden was speaking about the folks he grew up with in Scranton and Wilmington -- their fear about how to pay for the heat in the winter, and groceries, and medical bills? You could feel the empathy pouring out of the television.

He wants to help those folks. They are his neighbors, whether they live next door or across the continent.

Sarah Palin has clearly been on camera enough to hit her marks, and deliver her rote, frenzied lines for that closing speech or to launch into yet another hyperactive filibuster. I give her credit for having a great camera presence, but so much of it felt scripted, manic and manufactured -- down to the newly caramelized color of her highlights that they toned down with a color rinse from the usual brassier version for the stage lighting tonight.

Especially the moment where she was griping about corporations taking advantage of folks, while she's spent the last five weeks chumming around with corporate lobbyist cronies of John McCain's. (What ya do, not what ya say, you betcha! *wink*)

Frankly, I have had enough of a manufactured false front in the last eight years, haven't you? I don't want to have a beer with my leaders. I want them to do their jobs, and care enough to do them well.

Joe Biden? He was real. He spoke from real experience, from his heart and his gut. He cared about the subjects, whether it was protecting women from violence or Afghanistan or home heating bills for the poor. And I loved him for it tonight.

Looks like CBS' undecideds poll agrees: Biden -- 46%, Palin 21%.  Nate has more.

Sarah's Life Expereinces Pale in the Face Of Bidens

'Narrative' a word easy and unabashedly used to describe Sarah palin's Storyline.
But falls short of depth and scope as a Description of Joe Bidens Life.
Perhaps "Epic" would be more appropriate when reviewing the Life & Times of Joe Biden.
Not only his Political career, but his personal life experiences Deserve a Far more Noble Adjective, then Just 'narrative'

Palin should be a journalist (didn't she earn her degree in journalism?) - she'd be great!

But VP? A big, resounding NO.

She (& Republican party) is really out of touch with the needs of our country after the catastrophic Bush/ Cheney administration. It's obvious from her interviews and this debate that she has nowhere near the qualifications for the VP position which is, by the way, a very serious job. I was taken aback with her rather silly and comical folksy demeanor last night! (wink, wink) Also, does she REALLY want to expand the VP role after the Cheney debacle?? Again, I'm not convinced she even knows what the VP job is!

With the daunting problems we face - who do we really trust to deal intelligently and effectively with them? Joe Biden is ready to BE president on day one and I for one am VERY proud of him - he sets the standard of what every politician should be - AUTHENTIC, INTELLIGENT and EFFECTIVE!

In the beginning....I heard Palin say "God" all the time. But no more.

Now God is behind the "winks" and "gotchas" because Palin is a woman on a mission, and that mission is to promote her fundamentalist beliefs.

It's what Palin didn't say last night that scares me.

Right, That sincere, warm hearted Joe Biden.

The same Joe Biden whose support for the predatory credit card industry and their wonderful bankruptcy bill is behind a lot of the foreclosures that are pulling the whole economy down the drain.

How soon we forget who butters the bread of these oh so warm, caring and compassionate, kindler, gentler repo men.

P.S. Don't assume this is opinion implies support for the "God/Jesus" ticket.

Vote Nader, Vote Green, Hell, write in Hugo Chavez, but for damn-sake don't vote for the corporations.

her misuse of gender to score political points. There are issues I have with him such as "clean coal" and "safe nuclear" along with his sitting by to let Bush drag the country into Iraq but I think he will help Obama pull in moderates and independents. Still, Gonzolez, Clemente, and Wayne should not have been denied the right to join the debate.

It's the Voting Record Stupid

I don't care what emotional touchy feely stories politicians tell, the only thing that matters is their voting record.

If Biden is such a compassionate caring man, his actions would reflect that.

Instead we see that he has largely spear headed the drug war that has sent millions of non-violent drug offenders to jail.

Real compassionate.

God people are so easily led around by the nose.

As a person, yeah, he's genuine and warm hearted, been through hell and came back, all good.

But when a person votes for bills and authors bills that ultimately create pain and havoc in MY life, then all the empathy pouring forth doesn't mean shit.

A true honest person with some dignity and integrity cannot ever vote for someone who has a history of voting against your interests. No matter how much we love the person.

Can't explain the sudden spate of anti-Joe comments? Gave themselves 5s too. Stealth writers?

Go Obama.

Joe Biden's a true ally of corporate, police state America and the military-industrial complex. And he's not above pandering to the religious right. Here's a list of some of his votes to that effect:

1)Voted in favor of authorizing the war in Iraq
2)Voted in favor of the Patriot Act
3)Voted in favor of NAFTA
4)Voted in favor of the draconian 1994 Crime bill
5)Voted in favor of Permanent Normal Trade Relations with China
6)Voted in favor of the Border Fence
7)Voted in favor of the Defense of Marriage Act

Change we can believe in? I hardly expect it from this ticket.

Anyone who WANTS to get into politics has to be a sociopathic narcissist in the first place. What are you going to do? How are you going to act in such as way to FIX the problem, not continue it?

There is a lot of suggestion here that voting specifically for defeat of the GOP means nothing in the long term. How is an overwhelming show of voter disapproval NOT a good thing for any government?

Canadians have voted their government into oblivion before - to the point where the offending party was reduced to two seats or less and imho - it shows. We are not just a watered-down version of Alaska. Here is a sampler and any other canadian here is free to disagree with me:

1) we are not in Iraq because we still don't understand what you're doing there
2) we think american trade laws are high-handed and overbearing and we LIKE the fact that our regulators are trying to keep dangerous products out of our country e.g. bovine growth hormone
3) we think american drug laws are high-handed and overbearing and how DARE you try to deport the leader of our marijuana party
4) we think your gun laws are insane - MAN, you people are going crazy and popping each other off like flies!
5) we complain about red tape but really, we like to know environmental and public health agencies are doing their job?
6) we don't complain that much about our taxes -because we have healthcare and you don't
7) we are not desperately planning to jump the border en masse any time soon
8) we think our government is tied at the nose to yours so please * I mean it sincerely * don't screw up this election!
