Video the Vote is a nonprofit organization that employs a network of citizen journalists to capture polling place problems on Election Day. The organization works on both an assignment desk and platform model: people can submit videos to their website, and Video the Vote also contacts individuals in their network and dispatches them to document troubles as they arise in precincts across the country. Already, they are documenting issues in machine technology glitches, and are seeing long lines at several polling places.

We're working with several Election Protection partners both to highlight issues in election fraud but also to encourage voters to document their voting experience no matter what the result. This will be the most-documented election in history, and we encourage people to submit their videos to our Video Your Vote channel on YouTube, at youtube.com/videoyourvote.

Why can't we bring in the UN?

Once--post 2004--I took a tour of the United Nations building in NYC. Our guide told us that one of the thing the UN does is oversee elections where they are expected to fall short of being free and fair.

My partner and I raised our hands at the same time and asked, "Could the UN be brought in to monitor elections in the USA?"

Being a diplomatic sort by trade, the guide answered, "Your point is well taken," and then he continued on with his docent speak.

But why CAN'T the UN be brought in? I mean, I realize there may be a tenor of naivite in this question, since we seem to dominate the UN. But who sits in that oval office effects everyone around the globe. It is the best interest of France, Germany, Italy, Turkey---192 member states--that the United States is not ruled by thugs. So why can't these member states exert pressure?

Does anyone know anything about this? I don't mean conjecture and sarcasm, I mean do we have any people out there who are actually well-informed about this area? Can we use the AlterNet mind pool for anything more interesting and useful than immature rants?

St. John the Insane. McClaimjumper has all the banks and credit card companies begging him to help him help them to helping themselves to all of our personal information, what's this bullshit about not knowing who donated all that money to Obama's campaign? For St. John, I'm sure they would do it for (almost) free.
