The Real Reason McCain Suspended the Campaign: Palin's a Mess

Posted by Liza Sabater, Culture Kitchen at 10:13 AM on September 25, 2008.

Sarah Palin is not ready, as made obvious by her interview with Katie Couric.

Chris Cillizza over at the Washington Post spends a kabillion words explaining why McCain suspended his campaign. Booman goes to the point : "He is afraid to debate and he is doubly afraid to have Sarah Palin debate. I mean look at Sarah Palin. Look at her."

UPDATE

From Ryan Powers over at Think Progress (More Palin incoherence after the flip):

This morning on the CBS Early Show, Katie Couric previewed the second half of her interview with Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK). During the interview, Couric asked Palin why she believes the Wall Street bailout is needed.

Palin responded incoherently by claiming that the bailout would "help those who are concerned about health care reform." Palin then appeared to look down at her notes and says, "Oh, it's got to be all about job creation":

COURIC: Why isn't it better, Governor Palin, to spend $700 billion helping middle-class families struggling with health care, housing, gas and groceries? ... Instead of helping these big financial institutions that played a role in creating this mess?

PALIN: Ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the health care reform that is needed to help shore up the economy- Oh, it's got to be about job creation too. So health care reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions.

Watch it:

"She's not always responsive when she's asked questions," Couric said of Palin. "It was a really interesting experience for me to interview her yesterday," she added.

Yesterday afternoon, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) canceled an appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman in order to do an unscheduled interview with Couric. In explaining why he believed the Wall Street bailout is necessary, McCain did not cite health care reform.

They haven't been able to hide this fact and Debates or interviews would only add to the Evidential documentation!
Although Mac's acts of Criminal activity are far to extensive to lsit in their entirety- His continued friendship with Phil & Wendy Gramm alone attest to his Complicity in undermining Our American Way aof Life.
Sarar being a 'End of Dayer' is also Sufficient evidence that she feels it is man who commands and Controls God, not the Other way around.
Since the Media has recently been freed by using the accurate term "LIE" we need to also free them to break Macs numerous and Life long crimes down to one single easy Term- Treason and that fact that 'Evangelicals ' are actually Heretics (ie 'Deceivers')

When ever folks say they like McCain ask them if they remember the savings and loan bailout in 1989-90? He deregulated the S&L's so his buddy Charles Keating (Big financier for his run for Senate) could make billions on shoddy loans. Sound familier. Wake up not so fat now, but still dumb, and not so happy Americans.

Republicans were the "Party of Lincoln" now they're the "Party of Lincoln Savings & Loan".

Enstead of running him for President we need to run him out of town on a rail. Tar and Feathered first of course!

how dumb she is. They will defend her and vote for her, as opposed to McShame. I dont' see how anyone could support this ticket. She shows NO leadership as we have never heard her personal opinion on anything, just GOP talking points. As an educated woman, I am insulted. I mean I thought praised intelligence. This lady clearly is not the best of her party...maybe she was just the best looking in her party. People should be ashamed for voting for the GOP Booty! Let a real woman do the job that Palin can't do because she's too busy being used as a tool by the GOP.

Did you see the way Palin squirmed when being asked middle-brow questions by petite Katie Couric, the Meg Ryan of TV news? Did you see the look of disgust on Couric's face as she tried to maintain her patience with someone who is obviously inferior? This is an interview with Katie Couric! Imagine the G8 summit with Vladimir Putin!

She is either really smart and pulling everyones leg, or she is WAY WAY WAY over her head and is nervous and can not come up with anything other than these kinds of nonsense.

In both cases, thinking about her being the possible president of the United States in a year or 2, scares the shit out of me, and I am not even American :)

,,,a lot of people will watch the video and instead of rightly concluding that Palin was obfuscating with verbal note-informed confused incoherence and though with plenty of poise, did not have a clue--will instead conclude that she is brilliant and the explanation she offered beyond their level of comprehension (as opposed to being simply incomprehensible).
Brilliant. Simply brilliant (in all the ways the term implies).
I mean, what other explanation can be offered to explain that there are still some, who after having watched Palin in unscripted action, not conclude that she is a dolt?
Anyone?

Palin on the Ticket: Unforgivable.

What revolts so many is the the typical, bumper-sticker style script that she utters at a high-decibel, quasi-shriek after which her handlers whisk her away from questioners. Her being on the ticket is an obscene hoax. I agree with George Will who did not approve her as nominee. Later, Will bluntly said in his column that McCain given to behaving petulantly and childishly made him unfit to be President. Thus, the ticket is composed of an unfit nominee for president and of a personable but clueless and slightly giddy PTA Mom of the Year type. The reality of her potential to succeed McBush in the event of his becoming disabled from performing his duties, perhaps evenduring his first term, is frightening to say the least.

"Stupid is as stupid does."
Forrest Gump

This is what happens when the Religious Right dictates who the V.P. nominee will be to gain their support.
Palin is not V.P. material and she never will be, but this is who Pat Robertson and John Hagee wanted on the ticket before they would give Grampy McSame their support. What were Alaskans thinking when they voted this bubble head into office? She can't think her way out of a paper bag.

Ending statement nicer than most politicians. Will Sarah follow up?
Posted by: aouie01 on Sep 26, 2008 8:44 AM
Current rating: 1    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
It is common for people with faith in something (in this case possibly the GOP) to take some issues for granted. "I'll look it up and bring it to ya." is better than most of the politicians in terms of honesty. But there may be no follow up to it. Most politicians nowadays take it as part of the job to try to get as many favorable talking points into a conversation as possible and when cornered in to an undesirable position, to endlessly attempt to dodge the unfavorable question or situation. In today's world of sound bites, not being caught admitting ignorance on apparently important issues is high on the list of things to avoid for most politicians. The (presumably power and glory seeking) Arnold probably set it best

Confident good debaters are better at influencing others, but do most people on Alternet really want presidents and vice-presidents who are good at influencing others to follow their agenda? Another sad thing is that too many people are too easily influenced by people who do not do a very good job at making their case. If enough familiar faces appear on TV supporting a position in an authoritative, or "I am a good neighbor" kind of way, then people start warming up to the position.

It is not important for a president or vice-president to be exceptionally knowledgeable, but it is important for them to be able to process presented information, and make smart choices based on them. Unfortunately, most of the information presented to people in power by their current advisers and the possible choices they entail are likely far from ideal.
Sincerely,
Aouie

Republican Dictionary (with a little help from Hillary and Bill)
Posted by: djnoll on Sep 26, 2008 8:43 AM
Current rating: 5    [1 = poor; 5 = excellent]
In order to understand why Sarah Palin is on this ticket (besides McCain's hormone rush) you need to understand what they understand about the American people and their level of intelligence:

Elitist - which usually refers to a class of people who are extremely wealthy and influential - now means educated and speaks well, with an understanding of important political issues. They portray this as a bad thing for a President to be - educated, informed, calm, in control of issues and events.

Now, thanks to the Hillary campaign and Karl Rove we have what they feel Americans should embrace:

Real American - not a patriot who loves and cares about his/her nation and is an educated pro-active citizen - someone who is so stupid and poorly educated that they vote more by their emotions (or hormones) than by reasoned choice. In others words, they think Americans are stupid - and so they do not have to put forth a serious, intelligent individual to be either President or Vice President. They figure that the American people do not have the smarts enough to understand otherwise.

Now considering these definitions: The Democrats have put forth a man who is educated, has a compelling history, stays in control under pressure and in crisis, and who is going to be respected by the world leaders with whom he will have to deal. HE IS BEING PORTRAYED BY THE REPUBLICANS AND THE CLINTONS AS AN ELITIST!

The Republicans have put forth a senile, self-serving geriatric and an obviously empty-headed religious nutjob. They are incapable of even keeping on message, and have no understanding of any of the truly important issues of the day, but they can dress a moose and one of them was a POW 40 years ago. THEY ARE THE GOOD CANDIDATES BECAUSE THEY ARE REAL AMERICANS! JUST ASK BILL CLINTON!

Hopefully, with this credit meltdown, the American people will finally wake up and realize that we are not stupid - we understand that this administration of "real Americans" have led us into disaster, over and over again. We need an elitist leader - because being educated and capable is not a bad thing for a President of the United States, especially in these times. In fact, it is the only kind of leader we can have if we want to survive as a nation!

if the Republics don't come up with some "cover story" in the next week which will require Sarah Palin to back out of the VP slot and slink back to Alaska (family emergency, etc.). She has shown herself to be unfit for this job. She's fast becoming a national embarrassment for the Republics, and they are DESPERATE now. McStain has his own problems, but Sarah Palin is quickly becoming his WORST problem. At this rate, he can't make it to the election. She's laughable.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised to hear McStain announce a new VP -- leading the media on a month-long vetting process for the new candidate, instead of focusing on all the faux pas and gaffes crippling the Republics right now. It would also keep the heat off McStain's lack of ideas and policies, and it would prevent a Vice Presidential Debate from taking place, as well. ("Oh, there isn't time to prepare a new running mate for a debate!") I'm seeing a big change in the works. There's nothing else for them to do! They certainly can't keep up at this pace.

We've had eight years of having to endure a JOKE as our nation's leader... we can't take another four with these two bozos!

She's really perfect for President or Vice President & I understand why the Republicans like her -- She sounds EXACTLY like GWB!! He has always reminded me of Chance the Gardener in the movie Being There. He says something stupid and then the MSM parses it, makes it sound intelligible, and tells us "what he meant." It baffles me that 20% of Americans think he's just a fine POTUS. I wonder if they understand what he's saying perfectly & if they also understood Palin's gibberish?

We underestimate these two at our own Peril . Remember the comment that Dubya made concerning his debate Performance . He said all he had to do was overcome the DROOL factor . Meaning of course the bar was set so low for HIM that if he merely avoided drooling on himself he would be considered successful .
McCain had the same thing going for him last night and the idea that he was AFRAID to debate
the Brilliant Obama proved WRONG . He might not have won (though some say he did) but he certainly NOT destroyed by Obama .
We have to get down and dirty REMIND the public about the Keating Five which ocurred when Poppy Bush was President and is relavent to todays bailout . McCain was the ONLY Senator who actually was involved in Business dealing with Keating . Tie him to the whole dereguglation crowd and USE his OWN words to do it . Ask pointed questions about Phil Gramm and his role in creating this mess . Show EXACTLY how much Money John and Cindy will get from His Tax Cut Bill and contrast THAT with what the Average American worker will get . Time to look Presidential AFTER you win the OFFICE .

McCain talks to peoples belly & greed

Unless you understand that the Republicans are always talking to the greed, to the ever consumer-hungry American, you ca'nt understand why they win so often. Kerry before and now Obama are speaking to Americans capacity to understand.
Bellies versus brains.
At some point, I`m sure the republican audience watching Palin interviewed by Couric know that she's lost for words, that she does'nt understand the question and that she is well beyond her competence limit. But that same republican audience mostly knows that she will not spend tax payer money on poor people or to protect nature and avert a collective climate catastrophy. They know Palin and McSame will work for greed and that they might benefit from that, and that not only McCain and friends will.
Lets hope McShame and Paling light are wrong in their bet to win by speaking to every Americans' belly, greed and cycnicism.
Its a battle being fought in every American soul, between greed and intelligence.
