On November 2, 2007, FCC Chairman Kevin Martin announced that the Commission would hold the sixth and final public hearing on media consolidation November 9, 2007 in Seattle, Washington. Commissioners Michael Copps and Jonathan Adelstein blasted the Chairman's decision to give the public only five business days notice before the hearing:

"With such short notice, many people will be shut out ... This is outrageous and not how important media policy should be made."

In this this video, some really feisty and patriotic everyday Americans confront the FCC chairman and take him to task for his nefarious agenda. Check out the clip to your right for more.

Consolidated Media Destroys Democracy and Truth

"A declaration that the Federal Government will never restrain the presses from printing anything they please will not take away the liability of the printers for false facts printed." --Thomas Jefferson to James Madison, 1788.

And in today's world, especially with media consolidation, Mr. Jefferson's words would still ring true -- even more so.

Moyers is on the few journalists who uses the word "democracy" often and in its purest intent. If we had one Bill Moyers on each network news station and each newspaper, we'd be a huge step forward to improving and promoting democratic change in america.

peace

Media is essential to a properly functioning Fascism..!

The Fascist Republican hypocrisy is so evident in this great piece from Moyers and Alternet.org..!

Isn't always the cry of these Republican fascists every day to "Let the Market Decide.."

Yet in this case they choose to ignore the market and favor consolidation for these huge newspapers who's profit margin on average is still over 17%..!

The Media is essential to a properly functioning Fascism as Bush and Geobbels both knew so well..!

Bush needs to speed up this consolidation and homogenization prior to enacting NSPD-51 and making his Unitary Dictatorship a reality before or soon after attacking Iran..!

Sadly the hearings are a waste of time . the issue has already been decided and it doesn't matter how many show up OR how well they present their case AGAINST consolidation . It's a done deal . Very similar to the MTA hearings on the fare Increase . Of course some of those elitist bastards don't even BOTHER to PRETEND they care . They don't bother to show up . Nevertheless the result is the same the CONSOLIDATION will be approved and the transit fare will go up

to keep it from getting any worse. Are there any lawyers out there who can tells us if it would be effective to challenge with a lawsuit each attempt to buyout other media that occurs. Since the rethugs are going to do what rethugs do, we should have some plans to thwart them if we can. First of course would be to boycott any company that trys to take advantage of the changes. Nobody has to buy a newspaper these days. If we could hold up any sales until January 2009 we might have a new FCC. The rethugs must have this issue thrown in their faces. Democratic candidates speak up!

Time for a revolution to bring down the Oligarchs

The only way we can fight these fascist, corporatist overlords is via our pocketbook. They worship the almighty dollar(worthless as it is now), and we do have control. However, it is up to EACH AND EVERYONE of us to not look the otherway, but to stop watching mindlessly, to stop consuming like pigs, to start caring about our rights and freedoms(esp. information), to take back control of our radio/tv/wireless/cellular spectrums. They are OUR airwaves, being given away for a pittance to mulinational media conglomerates who only want more power to subjugate us and to create a
nation of robots.

As in music, the American people can easily see when they are being screwed. Thank God the internet has alternative news sources, not the yellow-journalism and obvious Rand-like pushing of sexual images and "framed" catch phrases to support corporate power. We need true investigative journalism again, and we need an empassioned populace who realize how far America has fallen in the last 50 years. What about our children, our families, our schools, our roads and transportation, OUR INFRASTRUCTURE?

EVERYONE SHOULD BE OUTRAGED AT HOW OUR $$ IS BEING SPENT ON THE WAR MACHINE INSTEAD OF US.

Take it back now via the system, or we'll have to take it back later at the end of a gun.

BUT, I WILL DO WHATEVER NEEDS TO BE DONE TO SAVE THIS COUNTRY FROM THE CORPORATIST AND IMPERIALIST BASTARDS THAT ARE IN POWER. AND IF THAT MEANS RESORTING TO VIOLENCE, THEN SO BE IT.

When the leaders of a country refuse to lead, it's time for the people to set the agenda, and force them out.

Bill Moyers has no business talking like he cares about media consolidation or the Constitution or "democracy", aka Constitutional republic.

This man has been suppressing in every way possible free speech on his forums and blogs and media events for many years on two topics -the truth about the assassination of JFK and the truth about 9-11.

Mr. Moyers is simply no good.

Are you sure you're talking about the same guy? Mr. Moyers might not agree with you on all your issues, but he's done more than probably any journalist to support democracy and reveal the truth.
So be it...

we all just STOPPED buying ANYTHING these corporate pigs sell on their "dumbed down and tarted up" media outlets? (Thank you, Dan Rather!)

Or suppose every last one of us did the OPPOSITE maxed out all our credit cards and then REFUSED TO PAY THEM AT ALL? Can they come after ALL of US? (Especially if no money was coming in to their shrinking coffers!)

It is getting to the point where we may need a Second Revolutionary War. (Beware Blackwater: Bush's SS!) We threw out one bunch of bastards (also led by another King George!), why not do it again? BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY!

Voting doesn't help. They just rig our elections. Talking (to the hand) doesn't help because they ain't listening to anyone but the Bush/Cheney/Murdoch corporate cabal.

THROW THE BASTARDS OUT!
