The trial part of Norm Coleman's contest of Al Franken's certification as the winner of the 2008 election for Norm's old Senate seat is now over.   The contest has now gone into the hands of the judges of the Election Contest Court, who will be spending the first part of next week having over a thousand rejected absentee ballots examined, opened, and otherwise handled to see if they can be added to the official vote count.  If all goes well, they could have a ruling ready by this time next week.

Norm will likely appeal the ECC's ruling to the Minnesota Supreme Court -- unless, of course, he's not able to do so.  As mentioned earlier, Franken attorney Marc Elias (who wore his lucky tie to court today) could ask the court to order the Coleman campaign to put the sum of the money they'll have to pay out in court costs when they lose -- which is at least $1.5 to $2 million, and very likely much more -- into an escrow account before any appeals can be filed.  In other words, they have to demonstrate their hind ends' ability to cash the checks they let their big mouths write.   The UpTake, of course, has the video for Coleman's and Franken's closing arguments.  (And if you haven't done so already, consider tossing a few shekels The UpTake's way.  They promise not to store your credit-card numbers on their servers!)

Digg!

Not representing the people

How could anyone living in Minn. think that Norm Coleman is interested in representing them, while he has no problem leaving the state with just one member of the US Senate for all this time? He doesn't give a F*#K about the people of Minnesota!

It is rediculous to extend the decision so long

If every election went this path no government could function.

Courts getting involved in elections is scary (like the Supremes for Bush). A few election judges determine the winner for millions of voters. It is not their power under the Constitution and Separation powers. They are not elected by the people but "selected" to hold their jobs.

States and their election judges control elections. It has already been decided by a recount that Franken won. Get over it and move on Coleman!

It leaves out the power of the Democrats to have a veto power ability. Or is that the goal?

So here we have it..another democrat crook close to being elected to the congress.

Can it be, the democrats have shown how corrupt the nearly forgotten party can be. They've been out of power for so long people forgot. But we all are being reminded almost daily..

So Franken failed to carry workers comp insurance for his employees and owes NYS a $25,000 fine. Lets see, dems dont do taxes, insurance, they sell public office seats..mess around with drugs and prostitutes on public money and sleep with officals of organizations they have oversight for, hide stolen cash in freezers, take bribes as judges, are impeached then elected again..

No doubt the GOP is a mess but the dems seem to have a lock on the corrupt thing. Yep, we need Franken, like we need another terrorists.

This is change for sure.

LETS SEE IF I'M GETTING THIS STRAIGHT= IT COST $1.5 TO $2 MILLION + FOR COURT, WHATS IT LACED WITH GOLD BULLION. NO WONDER THE STATES HURTING FOR MONEY. ITS ALL HIDING IN THE COURTS. AS FAR AS THESE 2 PEOPLE RUNNING IN CIRCLES= IN MY OPINION THIS IS LIKE 2 KIDS FIGHTING OVER A CANDY BAR. NEITHER ONE OF THEM OR THEIR ATTORNEYS OR THEIR PARTIES HAVE ANY RIGHT IN THE VOTING AREAS OF COUNTING OF THE BALLOTS. I'VE BEEN ASKED TO COMMENT ON THESE TWO CANDIDATES BY ANOTHER STATES WEB SITE SINCE THE VOTING ENDED. DO TO RECENT COMMENTS, I'VE LEARNED THAT A LOT OF COUNTERS REFUSED TO COUNT ABSENTEES VOTES, SEEMS LIKE NO ONE WANTED TO COUNT ALL THE VOTES AND ONE OF THE CANDIDATES ATTORNEYS WERE WHERE THE VOTES WERE COUNTED. I BELIEVE MY LAST SUGGESTION WAS TO HAVE PEOPLE OTHER THAN THEIR PARTIES COUNT THEM. I SUGGEST THEY HAVE A RE-VOTE AND LET ONLY CERTAIN COUNTERS COUNT ALL THE VOTES IN ORDER FOR THE VOTE TO BE HONEST. HAVE A NICE DAY. MIKE

Having read many of the comments I am still concerned that a few individuals still don’t get it. The do nothings and Rush ditto heads live in a world which does not and cannot be allowed to exist. People its change or accept the end of earth as we have known it. I feel Humanity is doomed if we can’t pull together. Disastrous events are about to spin beyond anyone’s control. HAVE A NICE DAY
