Treason is Not Old News, Mainstream Media Wants to Trivialize McClellan Story

Posted by Valerie Plame Wilson and Joe Wilson, Huffington Post at 2:02 PM on November 22, 2007.

Joe Wilson and Valerie Plame Wilson: Where is the outrage? Where is the "contempt and anger?"

This post, written by Joe Wilson and Valerie Plame Wilson, originally appeared on The Huffington Post

"I have nothing but contempt and anger for those who betray the trust by exposing the name of our sources. They are, in my view, the most insidious, of traitors." George Herbert Walker Bush, CIA dedication ceremony, April 26, 1999.

When Bush administration officials I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, Karl Rove, Richard Armitage and Ari Fleischer betrayed Valerie Plame Wilson's identity as a covert CIA operations officer, they fell into the category of "the most insidious of traitors." Now we learn from the president's former press secretary, Scott McClellan, that the president himself "was involved" in sending him out to lie to the American public about the betrayal. If his direction to McClellan was deliberate and knowing, then the president was party to a conspiracy by senior administration officials to defraud the public. If that isn't a high crime and misdemeanor then we don't know what is. And if the president was merely an unwitting accomplice, then who lied to him? What is he doing to punish the person who misled the president to abuse his office? And why is that person still working in the executive branch? Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald made clear his suspicions about the culprit when he said "a cloud remains over the office of the vice president." But we may never know exactly what happened because President Bush thwarted justice and guaranteed the success of the cover-up when he commuted Scooter Libby's felony sentence on four counts of lying, perjury and obstruction of justice.

With the exception of MSNBC's Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews, and the intrepid David Shuster, the mainstream media would have you believe that McClellan's revelation is old news. "Now back to Aruba and the two-year old disappearance of a blond teenager." But treason is not old news. The Washington press corps, whose pretension is to report and interpret events objectively, has been compromised in this matter as evidence presented in the courtroom demonstrated. Prominent journalists acted as witting agents of Rove, Libby and Armitage and covered up this serious breach of U.S. national security rather than doing their duty as journalists to report it to the public.

So far there is no apparent desire for redemption driving the press to report on the treachery of senior officials. Instead, the mainstream press has compounded its complicity by giving the Bush administration yet another free pass and shifting blame. The New York Times failed to publish an article on McClellan's revelation and The Washington Post buried it at the end of a column deep on page A-15 in the newspaper. Earlier in the week, Newsweek magazine, owned by the Washington Post Company, proudly announced the identity of its new star columnist -- Karl Rove, one of the key actors in this collective treason. Robert Novak, who willfully disclosed Valerie's identity, having been twice warned not to do so by the CIA, and who transmitted his column to Rove before it was published, remains a regularly featured columnist in The Washington Post.

With nearly 70 percent of the public now believing that our country is on the wrong track, it is no wonder that many feel let down by major institutions, including the Washington press establishment that increasingly resembles the corrupt Soviet propaganda mill. One reporter from a major news organization even asked whether McClellan's statement wasn't just "another Wilson publicity stunt." Try following this tortuous logic: Dick Cheney runs an operation involving senior White House officials designed to betray the identity of a covert CIA officer and the press responds by trying to prove that the Wilsons are publicity seekers. What ever happened to reporting the news? Welcome to Through the Looking Glass.

Fearful of its access to the powerful, and defensive about its status in the high school social culture that permeates the capital of the Free World, much of the press has forgotten its responsibility to the public and the Constitution.

Presidents and those who aspired to be president in the past once took strong positions in defense of U.S. national security. Today, Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson has tried to build his support through fronting for the Scooter Libby Defense fundraising efforts. Meanwhile, other Republican candidates accuse Patrick Fitzgerald of being "a runaway prosecutor" and remain silent about the stain on Bush's presidency.

Where is the outrage? Where is the "contempt and anger?"

Where is the outrage, going once, twice, SOLD! to the devil

That fuming rush of blood that rushes through the veins of a dedicated, patriotic, and sincere "pusher", suddenly stops cold with a good offer. The rush of fuming patriostism is suddenly replaced with the rush of power. The patriotism rush is slowed by the sneaky inuendo's of the "scare tactic" assault; The Karl Rove House of Cards that keeps Cheney's beak dripping wet.
Notice that the pusher gets the 'poser marks' in the paragraph above because a true beacon of patriotism and truth would not sell out so quickly.
Our elected politicians seem to come up with reasons not to uphold the future respect of this nation. They can't muster the girth to lay rule of law and dignity against this administration. They are cowards. They're all about the polls. And those who rely on the polls do so because they are cowards.
What they should think of are the history books 25 years from now that are written by a foreign country that was part of the rising tide of 'formerly pushed about countries' that now are on a 'no turning back crusade of crushing the devil.'
No matter that the develish facade that the world sees contains millions upon millions of good honest peoples. It doesn't matter... because the front has been accepted by the masses it contains. The atrocities of the devil will not be held in contempt. Therefor we all are the devil. And the crusaders will come to crush the devil - JUST AS PROPHECIED.
And just like history is usually written by the conquerer; the conquerer will do: "And the whole body bought the Devil's bag of goods, and they eventually became one with the devil, and the masses refused to answer to their gut, due to the temptations that the devil snidely laid in front of them... the temptations of comfort and apathy. And then the crusaders struck down the devil and its once bountiful kingdom. A kingdom of peoples who were once brave, once like of the Samaritians, once just; but now weak to the devils own proposperous tricks. And the crusaders with their building tide struck down these insidieous beings."
But unfortunately many groups of this "Rising Tide" aren't so nice.
Is this the history books we want our grandchilderen and great grandchilderen reading.
I guess it doesn't matter, I'm just beating my head against the wall

WE CAN FIX THIS WITH IMPEACHMENT!

WE HAVE THE TOOL PROVIDED BY THE FOUNDERS TO PUNISH HIGH CRIMES AND MISDEMEANORS: IMPEACHMENT! USE IT! MS. PLAME AND MR. WILSON, THE REMEDY IS AT HAND!

Impeach Cheney NOW

Defense of the Constitution Knows No Party

The Bush administration has illegally seized and imprisoned Americans without benefit of their trial by jury, has spied on Americans without warrant in violation of the Fourth Amendment of the Constitution, has lied America into a disastrous war, and has betrayed an American intelligence officer, who was working on weapons of mass destruction networks, to our enemies (Valerie Plame.)

Impeachment hearings against Vice President Dick Cheney are now a distinct possibility, thanks to a recent outpouring of public support for impeachment by Americans across the political spectrum. Your calls and faxes to House Judiciary Committee members are needed to keep up the pressure.

Leave a message for your Congressman, to demand he obey his oath to "defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic." Act now to restore your rights and the rule of law bequeathed to us by our Founding Fathers, which brave men have died defending throughout our history.

Call the House Judiciary Committee

202-225-3951
and demand that Impeachment hearings begin ASAP!

*What Happened to Make This All Possible?

On November 6, 2007, Rep. Dennis Kucinich brought H.Res.333, for the impeachment of Cheney, to the House Floor for debate. It was broadcast on CSPAN. A sudden outpouring of public support for impeachment forced lawmakers to keep the resolution alive. Democrats, most of whom currently resist demands for impeachment, were unwilling to kill the bill with the public watching. Republicans and some Democrats, mindful of impeachment sentiment, voted to debate the bill, but failed. At the end of the day, Americans of both parties had made it clear whose "table" this is, and that they want to see impeachment on it.

Mainstream Media is the old news

The treason of the current presidency has awaken the thinking people of this nation but that will not be broadcasted in the mainstream media any more then the outrage of McCellan's admission.

From the corner pizza maker to the grade school teacher to the retired mititary Captain, our tiny neighborhoor though very working class patriotic are indeed outraged day to day by the news we gleam from blogs, the local convenient store discussions, online news, books and even comedy's The Daily Show.

We are outraged and do write Congress, and do protest loudly, locally even nationally. We like you are not mentioned in the mainstream media either.

Why hasn't the outrage been heard because the mainstream corporate media are conplicit with the teason.

the MSM simply does not want to report real news. It's too complicated and pisses off the powers that be. Plus, their research shows viewers like crap. So there you go...wall-to-wall coverage of the Natalie Halloway murder and nothing on the war crimes of this administration.

I used to work in TV news. The corporate news director held a big station wide meeting and told us all, "journalism doesn't work. If you want to do real journalism go work for PBS. We're not doing that stuff here."

They ordered us to do nothing but gimmicky stories. When people like me balked, we were criticized and tagged as not being team players. I was demoted to an entry level position even though I was one of the most senior members of the news room.

Believe me, nothing is going to change. The media owners WANT to give the public crap for half a dozen reasons and as long as the ownership stays as it is, the mainstream news will continue to be hopelessly bad.

Things tank and social change follows. News media reports what people want. Action, adventure,and comedy. We are approaching most major financial change since great depression and there is nothing like financial fear to make people pay attention and to rob the powers that be of their sheeple. That we even have Olberman on the air represents at least financial interest in ratings and where the wind is blowing. Thank you wilson's for your courage.

at the behavior and the corruption in the administration. But our outrage reaches no one. The main media knows about it, but continues to lie, obviously being complicit in these crimes.
As you mention, only a few courageous reporters dare stick their necks out to tell the truth.
BTW: What is wrong with Pelosi.... doesn't she get it? Why is she there? Is she serving her pocket book, or the people? (Let me guess.....)
If she doesn't understand the importance of her job... why is she there?
She needs to go and retire.

Just by juxtaposing a few of the more salient points of the above article the truth begins to out = Intelligence is being used as a snow job to defray the actions away from the guilty toward the innocent. What the Bleeding Heart excrement do I mean by that? Ok! Listen up dummies I am only gonna do this once!

Intelligence gathering is a sham; it does no worldly good except as finding psychic pressure points to push John Q. Public (You & I sugar). Into social compliance with attacks on some supposed enemy of this or that State! That entity being made up of living breathing individuals the same as us who have no idea what their leaders are up to anymore that a hog knows about Sunday!

Oh to be sure they are fed the same pabulum as us and the same horse offal about Duty Honor and Country as are we. The selfsame excreta it is disbursed to them however rest assured.

There is not one of these individuals dedicated to selling/gathering information who will die today because of lying in this Country or any other. They will only die if they tell the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth to anyone save their handlers!

Intelligence is not only a misnomer it is a confabulated miasmatic hodgepodge of truth lies plutocratic wishful thinking and confidence gaming. Stop the horse manure already! Oy meshuga goylemim! It’s crazy you’ve all gottink! Mrs. Klein would say. And I agree with her! NO I am not Jewish or Palestinian or German or English or Irish or any of you transplanted Euro trash I am a REAL AMERICAN! WHO IS TIRED OF THE CRAPPY WAY YOU TREAT ONE ANOTHER SUPPOSEDLY IN THE NAME OF GOD YOU HYPOCRITS!

What would the Republicans say if Dick Cheney called his minions in to give them their latest marching orders, and instead of telling them to eviscerate Valerie Plame by using Bob "Dr. Frankenberry" Novak and the other MSM water-carriers, they should leak the information to the Russian Foreign Minister???

Wouldn't that be TREASON???????

So, why isn't treason TREASON???

(It's still punishable by death)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WARNING: Due to presidential executive orders and signing statements, and provisions passed by the previous Republican-controlled Congress, the National Security Agency may have read this posting, as well as and any other private correspondence of mine, and may listen to my private phone conversations without warrant, warning, or notice, and certainly without probable cause. They may also arrest me without telling me of any charges against me, even transport me outside the United States, and hold me secretly and indefinitely in an undisclosed location without notifying my wife or relatives, and deny me access to an attorney. They may take my property under the executive order of July 17, 2007, never to be returned. They may torture me without fear of penalty or repercussions to them for their actions. They may do all these things to me, or to you, with little or no judicial or legislative oversight. This danger became ever more apparent, and ominous, on Sept. 19, 2007, when the U.S. Senate failed to reinstate habeas corpus as an inalienable right of American citizens. I/We have no recourse nor protection save to call for the impeachment of the current president and vice-president, and voting to remove all rubber-stamp Republicans and neocons from office, as well as other elected officials acting only in their own interests instead of those of the People and the Constitution, be they occupying local, state, or national positions of authority.
I am not at all surprised that the corporate media denigrates anything attacking the Bush regime. Corporations love the Republicans - always have - always will.
