US House minority whip Roy Blunt flew to San Antonio, last week, to pay tribute to Texas Pastor and apocalyptic nuclear war advocate John Hagee. In a "Christians United For Israel" [CUFI] mailing sent February 26th, Hagee wrote:

I am delighted to announce that Roy Blunt is a strong supporter of Israel and following our conversation about CUFI has offered to gather groups of Congressmen in his office any time I come to Washington D.C. in the future.
Blunt is not the only politician to have courted Hagee, who had a private meeting with Senator John McCain in late January to discuss Israel and "other matters." McCain has recently said, of US tensions with Iran, that the situation could be "armageddon"

John Hagee, one of several alleged religious influences on George W. Bush, has characterized liberal Jews who do not agree with his political views as "poisoned" and is a strong proponent for a "preemptive" ( or unprovoked ) US and Israeli nuclear attack against Iran. In "Jerusalem Countdown," Hagee's latest book that has so far sold over 1.1 million copies, Hagee says the Holocaust and historical persecution of the Jews is a divine punishment for the "disobedience and rebellion of the Jews, as is antisemitism... Their own rebellion [against God] had birthed the seed of anti-Semitism that would arise and bring destruction to them for centuries to come." ( Jerusalem Countdown, pages 92 and 93, paperback edition ).

[image: The Holocaust, part of divine plan ?]
The Holocaust also served as a divine mechanism, suggests Hagee in the book, to scare Jews into moving to Israel where he seems to feel they properly belong, as a necessary, magical human precondition that must be in place before the Rapture, that will grant Christians physical immortality in Heaven, can occur. In Hagee's view, after Christians are "Raptured" to Heaven, Israeli Jews will be mostly killed in the End-Time apocalyptic conflict the Texas pastor has also formed a lobbying group to -- apparently -- encourage.

Texas Megachurch Pastor John HageeIn a recent Charisma Magazine issue John Hagee, in a piece entitled "The Coming Holy War," wrote :  "Israel and America must confront Iran's nuclear ability and willingness to destroy Israel with nuclear weapons."

On July 19, 2006, at a CUFI sponsored Washington DC event called "A Night to Honor Israel," with GOP Party head Ken Mehlman and US GOP Senators Sam Brownback, Rick Santorum, John Cornyn, and Kay Bailey-Hutchinson ( President George W. Bush sent recorded greetings to the event ) , Pastor John Hagee declared:

"The United States must join Israel in a pre-emptive military strike against Iran to fulfill God's plan for both Israel and the West... a biblically prophesied end-time confrontation with Iran, which will lead to the Rapture, Tribulation [...] and [the] Second Coming of Christ."

As recounted by Terje Langeland, reporting for the Colorado Springs Independent in 2003, one of Pastor John Hagee's CUFI board members, George Morrison, expresses his sense of how Israeli and Israeli Jews will fare in the apocalytpic scenario Hagee and others long for:

"Morrison, whose casual, folksy manner belies his apocalyptic beliefs, already sees signs that the End is approaching. The European Union, he says, might be the alliance of nations that according to prophecy will join the Arabs to wage war against Israel during the final days.
"Great wars will begin to take place" Morrison says in a matter-of-fact voice. "Those wars are going to involve nukes."
The extent of the destruction will prompt Jesus to return in order to stop it, Morrison believes. Unfortunately, he says, many Jews will be killed.
"It's another Holocaust, if you will" Morrison says. "

Many Christian Premillenial Dispensationalists -- the theological persuasion Pastor John Hagee belongs to -- believe that the majority of the Jews currently living in Israel will be killed in the period of warfare that follows the "Rapture," when "believing" Christians ( fundamentalist Christians, that is ) are bodily transported up to safety in heaven. The standard interpretation is that 2/3 or more of Israeli Jews will be slaughtered during this period but that a righteous "remnant", who have realized the error of their ways and converted to Christianity, will survive what Christian Zionists often call the "final Holocaust" or the "second Holocaust." Writings and statements made by CUFI board member Jerry Falwell, made in 1984, sum up such views:
Falwell said, in a December 2, 1984 sermon: "Millions of Jews will be slaughtered at this time but a remnant will escape and God will supernaturally hide them for Himself for the last three and a half years of the Tribulation, some feel in the rose-red city of Petra. I don't know how, but God will keep them because the Jews and the Chosen People of God." (December 2, 1984 sermon)"
From a pamphlet by Jerry Falwell entitled “Armageddon and the Coming War with Russia." :"the stage is rapidly being set, even today in the Middle East, for the final conflict. Russia will invade Israel, communism will be defeated, the antichrist will appear and the 'final holocaust' at Armageddon will consume the Earth." ( as quote by the The Oakland Tribune, October 23, 1984 )
In "Jerusalem Countdown", Pastor Hagee writes, in reference to passages from the Bibles Book Of Isaiah 10:22, 22:
"Who is this remnant [those who will survive] ?
First, it's obvious that all of that remnant is Jewish.....
God promises that by his sovereign grace a "remnant" would be saved by the grace of God, a group of survivors who have the opportunity to receive Messiah, who is a rabbi known to the world as Jesus Christ." ( Jerusalem Countdown, paperback edition, pages 192 and 194 )

These people are certifiably mentally "challenged.
The unfortunate fact is that they are in a position to actually influence Government to act out their wishes.
This is no laughing matter they are dangerous & should be removed from both politics & society.

John Conyers? Are you sure about that? First of all, he is a progressive Democrat and a Congressman. Secondly... Conyers has called for a US withdrawal from Iraq. Its a bit of a stretch to imagine him in this crowd, demanding a preemptive attack on Iran!

Irony

Does anyone else find it ironic that those most adamant in their support for Israel display the most vehement antisemitism? Christian fanatics with an apocalypse fetish support Israel so that its existence can fulfill the requirements needed to bring about the end times so that those treacherous Jews who refused to accept their savior will be punished for their unbelief. It is truly frightening that those with such twisted views wield such power with our government.

What truly amazes me about the blind acceptance of the end-of-times scenario that has been lovingly sold to the 'base' of fools that, as we speak, are busily packing their bibles & guns as they await their promised 'rapturement', is that bush/cheney have worked so hard to achieve that 'heavenly' goal. Ater all, how would they get to spend all that war profiteering booty? How could they enjoy the unquestioned power they've been cravenly accumulating? How could they enjoy their new era of slavery, slowly implemented by undermining the entire 'unnecessary' middle class? If W is such a fervent believer, wouldn't he realize his 'lord allmighty' would actually BE ALLMIGHTY, therefore he couldn't wield his veto? What's up with that? Perhaps, just perhaps, their plans include an entire underground empire, one that requires no compliance with international treaties, no consequence in selfishly abetting the pollution of the planet by satiating their limitless appetites, and no fear of the wrath of the god they use unmercifully to decieve us poor masses into becoming submissive, ball-less followers. Maybe they're actually NOT religious fanatics. Maybe it's time to expose these 'compassionate' conservatives as the mendacious hypocrites the are, BEFORE they achieve a future for nobody, and in typical fashion for them, screw even themselves!

Myth of a Christian Nation

Myth of a Christian Nation; How the Quest for Political Power is Destroying the Church is the title to Gregory Boyd's must read book on the subject of separation of church and state. Everyone who wishes to confront the TV preachers and religious right, Dobson, Falwell, Moon, Robertson and all the phoney cultists and biblical revisionists; this is the book for intelligent confrontation. The author, Gregory Boyd, is a megachurch Evangelical who thankfully does a soulful reading of the bible and argues for not sullying church with politics. He pens a strong undercurrent for Christian pacifiism and the care of the environment. It is published by mainstream respected Christian publisher, Zondervan, 2005.

Excerpt: "...As we die to our old self and 'put on' our 'new self' created in Christ Jesus (Eph.4:22-24), we learn how to be loved and how to love God, ourselves, our neighbor, our enemies, as well as the animal kingdom and the earth God originally placed under our dominion and loving care (Gen. 1:28-30)."

Buy this book and confront their Zealot sado-masochistic faces with what the real Bible means for real Christians and the modern world. For everyone its a great read and great tool for peacemaking.

Especially the "rapture" pre-millenialists, and the Christian Zionists need this book to dispel their heresy.

Christian Zionism, Corporatism (fascism)

It is, of course, a spurious argument that religion has much of anything to do with spirituality. We can certainly make a case that politicians (at heart) use religion to do terrible things. Not all Christians are fanatic hypocrites like Jerry Falwell who accepted a $68 million donation from Sun Myung Moon, the pretender-second-coming-Christ claimant and cultist, for example. Christian Zionism is a case of heretical exploitation and perversion of the message of a very peace loving man regardless of what Tim Lahaye or Mr. Hagee might claim. The connection between the Orthodox in Israel and its nefarious alliance with Christian Zionism proponents is partly political and partly religious. Their common interest, doctrinally, ends with the coming of the Messah; the first time for Jews and second coming for Christians. Then the Christians believe the 'unbelieving' Jews will burn in the lake of fire in the tribulation while true WASPS escape the tribulation.

We must make known the distinction between being anti-Lukid fascist Israel and anti-semitism. Gentle Christianity, peace loving and pluralism is never anti-semitic. Congress is loath to be accused of being anti-semitic and that is why Hillary Clinton and Lieberman get so much media attention. Israel is a theocratic country of largely secular people. But its leadership is controlled disproportionately by the Orthodox. The US needs to repudiate theocracy as anti-democratic in all countries; in Tibet as well as Israel. Theocracy is anti-American. The Faith based intitiative needs to be repudiated in our own country as contrary to 1st Amendment as well as our recognition of Israel as a religious state. Sanction of official State religion = corporatism = fascism. Yes, Israel is now controlled by Fascists and is practising ethnocentric policies against Christian Palestinians as well as Moslem Palestinians. Christian Palestinians are now about 10% of the Palestinian copmmunity and have been herded into refugee camps and are otherwise treated just as Moslems for being essentially non-Jewish. The Israel attack against Lebanon indescriminately targeted civilians. 45% of Lebanese are Christian. Where stand the American Religious Right on this issue; and where is the press reporting such facts when video footage is shown of the carnage? Shame on the press; shame on the religious right Christian Zionists; shame on us for not being better informed and to pay better attention to real issues. The dedicated peace workers are not the grandstanding atheists, but the Mennonites, Quakers, Tikkun Jews, Hutterites, SE Asian Buddhists, Presbyterians and other main line Christian churches; all people who know they inherited a common spirit from a common creator. A. Einstein once said, "There is a higher intelligence at work in the universe than man's." To the absolutists: It is impossible to know the mind of God. We are all fooled all the time, 'tis hypocritical to say otherwise.
