The New Christian Right is Global: What Mainstream Media Isn't Telling You

In Fighting Demons, Raising the Dead, Taking Over the World, published by Religion Dispatches, I describe Sarah Palin's strange new Christianity, rapidly becoming the face of the new, globalizing Christian right. Along with the story, Religion Dispatches also features my recent interview with Bill Berkowitz, The New Christianity: What the Mainstream Media Has Missed Over the course of September and October 2008, I was one of a tiny group of writers who correctly identified the highly distinctive nature of Sarah Palin's Third Wave and New Apostolic Christianity. At the web site I co-founded in late 2005 with journalist Frederick Clarkson can be found over 20 unique stories and a score of short video documentaries including a 36 page report (link to PDF of report) concerning Sarah Palin's churches and her religious associations. Sarah Palin is in the same radical new stream of Christianity as is Ted Haggard which, as I wrote in my Religion Dispatches story, has aggressively exported its new doctrines and practices to the global south: Latin America, Asia, and Africa:

In 1996 a team from Ted Haggard's New Life Church flew to Mali and began furtively anointing entire towns with cooking oil. The strangeness of it gripped Dutch missionary René Holvast, who later wrote: "It was confusing and produced a growing uneasiness. It did not seem to fit our current evangelical theological and anthropological textbooks."... René Holvast has theological training, but his perplexed reaction was similar to that of Alix Spiegel, a radio journalist who went to Ted Haggard's New Life Church in 1997 to do a story for This American Life...
As I told Bill Berkowitz,
Sarah Palin is, broadly speaking, in the emerging postdenominational movement, which by 2000 encompassed 385 million Christians and is vastly different from the faith as it has been practiced in recent centuries. We identified Palin as in a majority tendency of postdenominationalism known as the neocharismatic movement, or the "Third Wave." Evangelical missionary reference work World Christian Trends calls the Third Wave "a new and disturbingly different" kind of Christianity whose members "can accurately be called radical Christians with some pentecostal /charismatic parallels" and which has, as one of the distinctive characteristics of Third Wave Christian ministry, a heavy emphasis on healing miracles including raising the dead--an emphasis promoted from the pulpit in sermons at Palin's most central church, the Wasilla Assembly of God. We also found extensive evidence that Palin is in a religious movement founded in 2001 that has coalesced out of Third Wave Christianity; the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR). The NAR is bent on radically reinventing Christianity, and is fast becoming the vanguard of the global Christian Right.
Sarah Palin's new Christianity is rapidly moving to achieve dominance in the GOP, but few Democrats appear aware that Palin's movement even exists. Thus, the danger: that the Democratic Party will be blindsided in the 2012 presidential election, as the New Apostolic Reformation / Third Wave Christianity gambit - of peeling away ethnic constituencies that have traditionally voted for the Democratic Party - comes into play. For more, see: Proposition 8 : A Proving Ground For The New Christian Right

The Oracle Speaks on Palin's Future

Faith healing won't repair Sarah's political career; that would require resurrection of the dead. But there's always the next generation: Bristol, named after a bay because she's a receptacle for seamen, and Trigg who, despite Down Syndrome, may yet prove to be the smartest one in the family.

Bill Moyers talks with alternative media heavyweights Glenn Greenwald and Amy Goodman about what can and can’t be addressed in big corporate media.

This interview lays out the problems with media that have been treasonous, in fact. Watch Moyers squirm when Glen starts talking about why he feels hopeful about our future.

This is super good video, do not miss it.

A Counterfactual Daydream

The hordes of fundamentalists infecting our societies and land masses are scourges the equal of Atilla and Genghis Khan.

A satisfying daydream is to imagine them on a huge plain confronting one another in a massive head-on clash. Sarah is riding a charging moose and from the other side various other fanatical mullahs charging their steeds at one another. None of the true believer combatants escape this epic battle; there is no rapture or deus ex machina to save the day on either side.

I can dream, can't I?

Religious organizations are global

These religious organizations who prosper so well under our democratic system of Separation and tax exempt status aren't content just with that. They want their own candidates in power for their agenda. They want world rule and no democracy. They are all about theocracy (which our founders tried to prevent).

There are a few religious groups who don't want to be involved in government or rule the world agenda. Presbyterians, etc. They believe in democracy and non-government rule. That was the point of the "Protestant movement" in Europe.

The Faith Based pillaging of our treasury (allowed by both Bush and Obama) for their new buildings, hospitals, schools, colleges, etc.and political power is anti-constitutional and a threat to democracy. It is "religious cronyism" for votes and money during campaigns.

Why else would Newt Gingrich switch to being Catholic except he would think they have the most members and power? Newt had to resign because of fraud and corruption in the past as a majority party leader in Congress. Now he considers running for President? Am I living in an other universe of sanity?

Do you have to be a anti-constitutional candidate to run for President? An X-drug addict and non-military to run for President? Seems that is the case to me. What religious goals but power and destruction of our democracy?

Why can't both parties find better candidates?

The pick by the parties for President aren't really democratic but globalists and pro-war. When will "We the people" have a President who represents our best interests? Palin, Obama, and Hillary aren't it.

We pay their salaries, protection, and retirements. Why do corporations have more power anyway? Let the corporations pay all we do since they rule anyway. Let's "privitize" DC (or have we already but pay too). What we have today is Fascist government with a police state.

When do we get those rights back under a democracy as promised by both parties? Liars all.

End of Dayers...Aka Satan Worshippers

When will Americans admit we have our own Radically Dangerous Religious Fanatics amongst US.
These twisted seekers of Apocalyptic ideology have been aorund for millenia- and have infiltrated various religions. These Crazed Sects used to be run out of the village- now they are handed Political offices all around the World.
Who missed McCains concession to the sociopath Hagee who wants to pre-emptively strike Iran to kick off Armegeddon. McCain even sang a lil Song about his complicity. Worse yet is Hillary parroted the goal (What the hells the Difference between "bomb bomb bomb Iran" and 'Obliterate Iran'?- absolutely Nothing)
These whacked out idiots have succeeded in giving Islam a bad name and have been working diligently to Equate Chrisitianity with their fucked up self fulfilling prophecies. Who the Fuck Died and Left you People in charge of the Divine Design???Seems to me they operate more in the realm of what would serve an entity HELL bent on Humanities Destruction! Not to mention they have seized the sole Right of Judgement over others- Working WAY above your pay scale folks! Who the HELL would dare Claim Such a Divine Priviledge as determining the destination of humans immortal souls?
It's also time we call them what they are- Terrorists. Who was responsible for the Atlanta Olympic Pipebombing Murders. Who also bombed Clinics without regard to whether there were workers inside. Who assasinated MD's. Who tied a young man to a WY fence post and left him to die? we need not even go back to the Salem Witch trials to prove their diabolical doctrine, and certainly have no need to follow their enitre Blood thirsty history to prove Who they Serve.Who Just walked into a "liberal" Church during a Kids Recital and shot the place Up??? I'm not afraid of the 6ft Dialysis patient supposedly hanging out in a cave...I'm terrified of the Crazed Holy Roller Living Down the street!
These People are murders, they have as much blood on their hands as the Radical Islamic extremeist. Let's not forget Jonestown, Heavens Gate or Waco either! These People are Terrorist, and heretics. Their Doctrine is that of the Great 'Deciever'- Their not Christians, Muslims or Jews..Their Satanists.
Don't forget Charlie Manson was an End of Dayer Too!Theres folks pray for the coming of the 'Anti Christ' too- It's required for their self fulfilling prophecy for the 'Savior'. Question is which ones which? Here's a clue- Satan Hates humanity and dreams of nothing more than Gods Beloved creation being destroyed. So Facilitating Armegeddon fits Right in with his plans. 'End of dayers' are Satanist cloaked in sheeps clothing.

PALIN GETS TOO MUCH CREDIT

She can't change the world, neither can anyone else. The "Christian thing" is a distortion. It provides an identity for people all over the world who believe that their way is the only way. It stokes an ancient fire. Gives people reason to hate and fight wars. Christians are a minority by worldwide count. There are many more Muslims. Both groups would prefer not to fight and left to their own devices probably wouldn't. It's crazy people like Palin and pals who refuse to leave well enough alone. Palin herself is clearly disturbed and wouldn't know how to function as a normal contented woman (Christian or otherwise). The overwhelming majority of us would prefer to be left alone by her and those like her. To allow them to think that they matter on a global scale is damaging to the world. The are malcontents and can't stand the thought of people liking each other no matter what they are. That's what most of us are like. Coincidentally, WE on the other hand don't like her kind. She is beneath decent people everywhere. ANNA

the freaking Crusades! Christanity itself is tainted, as are all other "religions". I agree that there are those who revere God and wish to be left alone, but these idiotic religious freaks don't see it that way. It's either their way or the highway. The only way for us as a planet to survive is to get these fucking doomsayers out of public life and back into their caves. Leave me alone and I'll damn sure leave you alone. Oh yeah, and don't tell me how to live when you are the problem...not the solution!

we got fundamentalist Christians - they'll blow the whole thing up for you". Religions are the most destructive devices for power and control devised by humans. Indoctrination is anti-intellect and anti-humanity whether religious or political.
