Three Years After Katrina, Bush's FEMA Still Sucks

Good to see that George W. Bush has learned the lessons of Katrina.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency came under fire Sunday as emergency workers were left undernourished and dozens of trucks of water and food had yet to be set up at distribution centers around Houston and surrounding communities.

But somehow that "personal responsibility" thing never seems to apply to Republicans.

Earlier in the day, a FEMA spokesman said delays in setting up staging points to hand out needed provisions had been caused by blocked roads.

By the evening, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said it was the fault of state officials who handed his department the "unexpected challenge" of having to prepare distribution points in addition to delivering supplies.

The important thing to remember with BushCo is -- it's always someone else's fault.

Chase the dogs off the reporters or we will never hear the truth from a Republican or any other government administration.

A Free Press means more than just the ability to print the known truth about bad governance. A truly Free Press would not be blocked from truthfully reporting on the actual process of government.

I have a son in Liberty County TX about sixty miles inland, definitely not a hurricane evacuation area; this was not an area where people didn't leave when they were told to. His household is without electricity or phone service and is expected to be so for another 2-4 weeks. Stations have gas but can't pump it because the pumps are electric; apparently generators are not yet known in Texas or else FEMA is busy still celebrating its great success last week in New Orleans. ATMs are electric too: people can't get at their cash. We are getting sparse email information. The last we heard people couldn't get to work without gas, gas is unavailable, contract employees therefore aren't getting paid, food supplies are down, roads are still blocked, everybody is without air-conditioning in a sub-tropical hot humid climate, forget refrigeration, those relying on swimming pools to cool off are rapidly running out of luck as filters aren't working and pools are rapidly turning into swamps in spite of chemicals added, and emergency services are non-functional. I have a CARE package ready to send as soon as FedEx is up and running, which it still isn't. News coverage is mostly about Galveston, but the problem is much more widespread. And this isn't all about stubborn silly people refusing to leave.

are without food and water RIGHT NOW -- three and a half days after the hurricane hit. No one can explain why.

It's not that BushCo. hasn't learned anything since Katrina...

It's because THEY DON'T GIVE A RAT'S ASS!
